[kwin] [Bug 474892] New: High CPU utilisation of kglobalaccel and Xorg-server when switching between virtual desktops

2023-09-26 Thread Matthias Apitz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474892

Bug ID: 474892
   Summary: High CPU utilisation of kglobalaccel and Xorg-server
when switching between virtual desktops
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.27.8
  Platform: FreeBSD Ports
OS: FreeBSD
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: g...@unixarea.de
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
High CPU utilisation of kglobalaccel and Xorg-server when switching between
virtual desktops with Ctrl+Tab or Ctrl+F1,
Xorg to ~60%, kglobalaccel to ~20%.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. remove ~/.config and ~/.cache so that plasma creates fresh desktop on next
startx
2. configure only: 4 virtual desktops and shortcuts for switching Ctrl+Tab and
Ctrl+Fn
3. switch between the virtual desktops some time once per second

OBSERVED RESULT
CPU utilization in top as described, switching stops working or is delayed and
afterwards replayed like a movie;

EXPECTED RESULT
Smoothly switch while cycling through the desktops.

This is with plasma 5.20 on FreeBSD (ports from head): The digital panel clock
(version 3.0) looses digits of the time. It is not related to suspend/resume
(because I can't use them with FreeBSD) and also not related to NVIDIA driver
(my Acer C720 laptop uses Intel).

>From time to time some of the digits of the clock in the panel are going away.
I will attach a screenshot or look here: http://www.unixarea.de/clock.png
To make them appear again I change the characters for the digits from normal to
bold (or vice versa) and then after some time they're away again.

Thanks, your last comment pointed me in the right direction. The FreeBSD ports
tree contains for KDE the version 4 and 5 and as I'm still using KDE4 I must
install misc/ktouch-kde4 and not misc/ktouch. All is fine for now.

Thanks,

I've built KDE Edu again, this creates among other packages one with the name
kqtquickcharts-kde4-4.14.3_3.txz which contains:

# tar tzf kqtquickcharts-kde4-4.14.3_3.txz
+COMPACT_MANIFEST

/usr/local/lib/kde4/imports/org/kde/charts/BarChart.qml

/usr/local/lib/kde4/imports/org/kde/charts/libkqtquickcharts.so

i.e. not in the place where ktouch looks up the files.

This didn't help. Monitoring the ktouch start with truss (like Linux strace)
shows what it is missing:

[Akonadi] [Bug 358467] New: on session start mysqld goes into 100% CPU and is not killable

2016-01-24 Thread Matthias Apitz via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358467

Bug ID: 358467
   Summary: on session start mysqld goes into 100% CPU and is not
killable
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 1.13.0
  Platform: FreeBSD Ports
OS: FreeBSD
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: g...@unixarea.de

I have created a new user in FreeBSD, provided him a ~/.xinitrc which starts
kde4 on 'startx'; the KDE environment is created fine and desktop comes up; but
the isqld running for akonadi goes in 100% CPU loop and you can not kill it,
not even with -9; a reboot ends up in PANIC because 1 vnode can not synced to
disk;

The other (already existing account) works fine and does not show this problem;

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create new user in FreeBSD system
2. create ~/.xinitrc as:
exec /usr/local/bin/startkde
3. login as this user and issue 'startx'
4. check mysql with 'ps ax | fgrep mysql'
5. try shutdwon, remains 1 unsync-able vnode

[kde] [Bug 356331] KDE Power Management System init failed!

2015-12-12 Thread Matthias Apitz via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356331

--- Comment #3 from Matthias Apitz <g...@unixarea.de> ---

I think, we can close this issue here;

Seems to be really a hald problem, and not a KDE4 problem; right now it
occured again and qdbus only says:

$ qdbus --system
:1.2
 org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit
:1.25
:1.26
:1.27
:1.28
:1.3
:1.31
:1.32
:1.4
 org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1
:1.40
 org.freedesktop.DBus

i.e. nothing about hald :-(

Maybe the error message in KDE should a) not only popup for a second and b)
contain something about the real problem, i.e. that hald can not be contacted;

--- Comment #2 from Matthias Apitz <g...@unixarea.de> ---
I have had it today again and the situation re/ hald is like this in the moment
of 'startx':

885  -  Ds   0:00,01 /usr/local/sbin/hald
890  -  I0:00,03 hald-runner
764 v0- I0:00,01 /usr/local/sbin/hald
988 v0  R0:00,00 fgrep hal
06:42:19: startkde: Starting up...

QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString)
06:42:20: QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before
QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
...

The proc 885 can not be killed, not even with -9; only a re-boot solves the
situation; I instructed the start of hald with debug logging and it says on
boot:

$ fgrep hal /var/log/messages

2015-12-06 Thread Matthias Apitz via KDE Bugzilla

Bug ID: 356331
   Summary: KDE Power Management System init failed!
   Product: kde
   Version: 4.14.1
  Platform: FreeBSD Ports
OS: FreeBSD
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: g...@unixarea.de

>From time to time, on start of KDE4 (with 'startx') there are messages
about a problem with the power daemon; the pop-ups are unreadable due to
their short presence, but in the log of the startx-session I can capture:

$ fgrep Power startkde.log.last
18:19:23: kded(940): KDE Power Management System init failed!

The result is that in the tray no battery symbol is presented. Until
now I could only fix this with a reboot, not with a restart of KDE4.

This is with:
11-CURRENT r285885 on amd64 and KDE from ports r392920.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot and login into alpha console
2. startx
3. as I said: not always reproduceable
