Bug ID: 486537
Summary: [Feature request] Effects and Effects stacks should be
saved to the project in addition to the system
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 24.02.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Effects & Transitions
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: mecwo...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

I work on projects both at home and at work. The projects are stored in a
shared directory that is sync’d over the net. When I save effects, they do not
get saved to the project so when I arrive at my office after working on a
project the night before, the effects that I worked on are not available and I
get errors when opening the project file.

The effects are stored in

C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\kdenlive\effects

I have to manually copy them from machine to machine which is:

  * A pain
  * Difficult to remember to do
  * Because of this, I actually avoid using saved effects which is not a good
thing. Not having project level saving for effects deters me from using this
wonderful feature.

I propose that effects/effect stacks be saved at the project level as well as
global. Or to be able to choose global, local or both locations when saving.

[kdenlive] [Bug 466501] Downloaded Effects from KDE Store Aren't Saved in the Proper Spot

This is still present in 23.08.5. I haven't checked on 24.02.0 yet but I'm
guessing it's still there. If you download effects on Windows, they are not
usable and most who are not familiar with windows will not be able to use them.

This has been fixed in 23.08.0. This was tested on Windows 11 and I was able
to import and use footage from my DJI Mavic 3 drone which cased the crash
before.

It's also important to note that the crash on my system happened using video
from a DJI Mavic 3 drone. This original bug was caused using video from a DJI
Action Cam 3 which means there is something across DJI videos that Kdenlive is
not able to handle.

Also happens on Kdenlive version 23.04.3 however it does work on 22.04.3 which
means this is a regression.

Operating system: Windows 11
Kdenlive Version: 23.04.3
