One possible workaround is to create a single panel, separate it into sections
with panel spacers, and use [Panel
Colorizer](https://discuss.kde.org/t/panel-colorizer-for-plasma-6/10675) to
make the panel background transparent and add background colors to specific
sections. It can be made to look similar enough to how it should be, though not
100%.

I have the same issue. It also happens even if the first panel is not
center-aligned, and on all four edges of the screen.
