[krusader] [Bug 392133] Huge memory consumption while doing nothing

[gwenview] [Bug 443527] New: Tag editor window and the whole gwenview window becomes with huge width when there are tags with big length
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443527 Bug ID: 443527 Summary: Tag editor window and the whole gwenview window becomes with huge width when there are tags with big length Product: gwenview Version: 21.08.2 Platform: Gentoo Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: gwenview-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: phob...@fastmail.fm Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Turns out the width of the tag editor window and the whole gwenview depend on the maximal length of the existing tags that are autocompleted from the combo box pull down menu. Thus when there is a tag with for example 400 chars (this is a real, valid case, produced for example in digikam with 20 levels subtags that are written as tag1/tag2/tag3/tagX etc by digikam), the editor window's width becomes huge and goes outside the screen. At the same time the whole gwenview window becomes distorted if in View->Information mode and goes beyond screen also. Additionally these widths cannot be manually controlled after they become huge. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Choose a picture and open it in gwenview 2. Go to View->Information mode 3. Open Tag editor and create and assign a tag with at least 400 chars -> leads to whole gwenview window width to go beyond screen and the information panel to be distorted 4. Close the tag editor and gwenview 5. Open gwenview and choose another picture that has not this tag assigned. 5. Open tag editor -> it is with huge and uncontrollable width OBSERVED RESULT 1. Huge window widths of gwenview and the tag editor. 2. The widths of these windows cannot be made smaller manually EXPECTED RESULT 1. [krusader] [Bug 392133] Huge memory consumption while doing nothing
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=392133 --- Comment #39 from PhobosK --- Created attachment 141297 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=141297=edit heaptrack.krusader.jpg I found something very strange about this memory hog It still happens on my system - right after krusader is started it has some 20-30 sec delay before its window is painted, the next 10 min it gets >200 Mb mem usage and for an hour it ups to 1.5 Gb. I found that there is mem leaking connected to KDirWatch, started by KBookmarkManager. The truth is I have around 50 bookmarks from diff protocols - sftp:/, file:/, smb:/ - and some of them were old with missing paths. So I decided to leave only those working - ~20 - but it didn't help. I turned off the search in bookmarks too - but it didn't help either. Krusader from my root profile with only 5 bookmarks with the file:/ protocol doesn't have this memory problem + it starts (paints) the window almost immediately after the start and memory usage stays at max 30 Mb for a long time I am sorry that I attach a screenshot only of heaptrack, but this is taken on the 15 min of usage of krusader and is sorted by "Leaked" memory. The system is: Krusader 2.7.2 KDE Frameworks 5.85.0 KDE Apps 21.08.1 Qt 5.15.2 The xcb windowing system I do not know if it is relevant (I think KDirWatch is also dependent on it) but because of baloo and idea I have set: fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 524288 I hope this will help Thanks -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Plasma Vault] [Bug 404750] Thumbnails of files in vaults are unencrypted
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=404750 --- Comment #5 from PhobosK --- Thanks very much :) But why disabled in dolphin? A use case like mine for example - where I have a lot of PDF and ODT files in the encrypted folder - and I can differentiate between them thanks to the thumbnails and the previews... So could the aim be just a thumbnail/preview working in any KDE app but none of those to be cached anywhere? :) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Plasma Vault] [Bug 404750] Thumbnails of files in vaults are unencrypted
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=404750 --- Comment #3 from PhobosK --- Hi @Ivan Čukić, This patch seems a rather drastic approach to the problem Yes it is the easiest way to address the problem, but not a user friendly one and cripples KDE functionality...It makes totally impossible to use preview on any file on encrypted volumes. It does even cripples gwenview browse mode... and many users would like to have previews even on encrypted volumes... So is it possible for you or someone to think of a more user friendly way to cope with the issue? For example isn't there a way to make KIO (thumbnails) generate previews/thumbnails and show them in dolphin/gwenview/etc but not store them on disk (maybe something using bSave or bNeedCache). Even if next time the user revisits the same folder to regenerate all from scratch? Besides from a security point of view, once an encrypted volume is mounted, it is totally exposed to services and applications running under the user session - like baloo, tracker, kactivitymanagerd etc, - so in a way a total security fix is actually hard to achieve... [Plasma Vault] [Bug 386200] Import Vault
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=386200 --- Comment #10 from PhobosK --- (In reply to Ivan Čukić from comment #8) > The reason this is not in the UI is that I don't find the use-case of > syncing with other computers via a public cloud service a particularly > secure practice. > > I'm open to being convinced otherwise. Well my purpose will not be to convince you in something ;) It's your application and so your decision how to do the things :) But in my case I have a couple of Vaults in other places in my home folder... They are created either by directly using the cli of encfs or by other applications like cryptkeeper, kencfs-plasma etc I want them to be listed and accessible in one interface though - preferably a KDE app and I want them to stay where they are (not to be moved to some hidden folder)... Sadly kencfs has problems, so I was happy when I first saw Vault. But next the lack of adding already existing vaults was a turn off.. So having Vaults in other places locally is a valid use case IMHO... Even if that place is not local but a cloud... no matter of the security implications.. it should be a valid case too... 'cause I think one of the most important reasons users still stay in KDE is the vast options of configuration of almost all things in it... as opposed to GNOME.. where it's more like a disaster when trying to configure something ... > > The feature exists for more tech savvy users that are willing to dig a bit > into it. One thing that I plan to do is to collect all these things in the > Vault docs on the userbase (when I create the Vault docs on the userbase). If you ask me KDE is all about tech savvy users :) But this dbus call... well it is too tech savvy.. People either have to go through the code carefully, or have to see this bug report where you mention the dbus call ;) or of course go through all the dbus interface of kded5.. Anyway as @Nate Graham said.. why do something so functional that would stay deeply hidden ;) Sorry for the long post... It has nothing to do with bug reporting I know... but couldn't help expressing my opinion... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
