Turns out the reason for all this is baloo.
I have a lot of pics with tags etc that baloo is indexing.
The moment baloo is turned off and its database is cleared, krusader starts to
work normally and barely consumes memory...

I dunno if there is a way so krusader doesn't use any baloo stuff ???

[gwenview] [Bug 443527] New: Tag editor window and the whole gwenview window becomes with huge width when there are tags with big length

2021-10-09 Thread PhobosK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443527

Bug ID: 443527
Summary: Tag editor window and the whole gwenview window
becomes with huge width when there are tags with big
length
   Product: gwenview
   Version: 21.08.2
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: gwenview-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: phob...@fastmail.fm
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Turns out the width of the tag editor window and the whole gwenview depend on
the maximal length of the existing tags that are autocompleted from the combo
box pull down menu.
Thus when there is a tag with for example 400 chars (this is a real, valid
case, produced for example in digikam with 20 levels subtags that are written
as tag1/tag2/tag3/tagX etc by digikam), the editor window's width becomes huge
and goes outside the screen.
At the same time the whole gwenview window becomes distorted if in
View->Information mode and goes beyond screen also. Additionally these widths
cannot be manually controlled after they become huge.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Choose a picture and open it in gwenview
2. Go to View->Information mode
3. Open Tag editor and create and assign a tag with at least 400 chars -> leads
to whole gwenview window width to go beyond screen and the information panel to
be distorted
4. Close the tag editor and gwenview
5. Open gwenview and choose another picture that has not this tag assigned.
5. Open tag editor -> it is with huge and uncontrollable width

OBSERVED RESULT
1. Huge window widths of gwenview and the tag editor.
2. The widths of these windows cannot be made smaller manually

EXPECTED RESULT
1. Windows widths of the application and the tag editor to not depend on the
length of the tags
2. The affected windows to be able to be manually made smaller

At the moment the Android part of the application (Kdeconnect Beta v. 1.17.0 of
6th May 2021) offers only **ssh-rsa** as HostKeyAlgorithms, and thus the SFTP
plugin of the KDE application stopped working again.
The error:
Unable to negotiate with XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX: no matching host key type found.
Their offer: ssh-rsa\r\n".

So the applied before patch should be reverted back. When this is done all
works correctly.

[krusader] [Bug 392133] Huge memory consumption while doing nothing

2021-09-04 Thread PhobosK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=392133

Created attachment 141297
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=141297=edit
heaptrack.krusader.jpg

I found something very strange about this memory hog

It still happens on my system - right after krusader is started it has some
20-30 sec delay before its window is painted, the next 10 min it gets >200 Mb
mem usage and for an hour it ups to 1.5 Gb.

I found that there is mem leaking connected to KDirWatch, started by
KBookmarkManager.

The truth is I have around 50 bookmarks from diff protocols - sftp:/, file:/,
smb:/ - and some of them were old with missing paths. So I decided to leave
only those working - ~20 - but it didn't help.
I turned off the search in bookmarks too - but it didn't help either.

Krusader from my root profile with only 5 bookmarks with the file:/ protocol
doesn't have this memory problem + it starts (paints) the window almost
immediately after the start and memory usage stays at max 30 Mb for a long
time

I am sorry that I attach a screenshot only of heaptrack, but this is taken on
the 15 min of usage of krusader and is sorted by "Leaked" memory.

The system is:
Krusader 2.7.2
KDE Frameworks 5.85.0
KDE Apps 21.08.1
Qt 5.15.2
The xcb windowing system

I do not know if it is relevant (I think KDirWatch is also dependent on it) but
because of baloo and idea I have set:
fs.inotify.max_user_watches = 524288

I hope this will help

Thanks

Sorry but this still happens for me on KF5 5.78 and Plasma 5.20.5 and Apps
20.12.1

It is hard for me to debug because it needs some time Krusader to run (like
some 4-6 ours of use) and use it.

What's interesting that when run as root this is not happening, but again in
that profile KDE is not configured and no sftp etc bookmarks are used.

Well I have this bug also and its been more than 3 years now with all the KDE
and Krusader versions that were at that time (my system is Gentoo and is always
up to date with current KDE versions)
When Krusader works with local folders there is no mem consumption, but as soon
as I open a tab with the sftp: or fish: kio, even if i close it the mem
consumption goes up to a point Krusader becomes non responsive and mem is
usually above 5 Gb just for an hour of staying in the same sftp folder and
doing nothing.
The same kio protocols do not have this effect on dolphin...
Config:
KDE Frameworks 5.68.0
Qt 5.14.1 (built against 5.14.1)

[kwallet-pam] [Bug 400929] kwallet-pam errors when logging into Plasma from lightdm

2019-11-01 Thread PhobosK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400929

The same issue still persists.
Actually I have never been able to use pam-kwallet properly.

The system is still Gentoo, though some of the versions are a lot more recent:

lightdm 1.30.0
kwallet-pam - 5.17.2
pam - 1.3.1
plasma-workspace - 5.17.2
plasma-framework - 5.63.0

PAM files are the same as in my previous post.

The errors are like as in @Dmitry's logs...

I added some extra debug code in the pam_kwallet.c to get some extra info:

lightdm[940510]: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:auth): (null): pam_sm_authenticate
lightdm[940510]: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:setcred): pam_kwallet5: pam_sm_setcred
lightdm[940510]: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet5:
pam_sm_open_session
lightdm[940567]: pam_kwallet5: final socket path: /run/user/501/kwallet5.socket
lightdm[940567]: pam_kwallet5-kwalletd: Couldn't listen in socket because:
95-Operation not supported
lightdm[940510]: pam_kwallet5(lightdm:session): pam_kwallet5: Couldn't fork to
execv kwalletd (default state of the switch) because of status: 256-1

I am not an expert in sockets coding and operations, but it seems there is a
problem with the socket usage at listen(envSocket, 5) level - with this error
95.
Besides the forked child at start_kwallet(...) obviously exits with error
because of this(256 is the status value and the 1 is the WEXITSTATUS(status))
The folder /run/user/501 has the appropriate user permissions

Anyone of the developers?
Do you need more debug info?
This is already a year old problem that has not been still resolved :(

[Plasma Vault] [Bug 404750] Thumbnails of files in vaults are unencrypted

Thanks very much :)

But why disabled in dolphin?
A use case like mine for example - where I have a lot of PDF and ODT files in
the encrypted folder - and I can differentiate between them thanks to the
thumbnails and the previews...

So could the aim be just a thumbnail/preview working in any KDE app but none of
those to be cached anywhere? :)

[Plasma Vault] [Bug 404750] Thumbnails of files in vaults are unencrypted

2019-05-05 Thread PhobosK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=404750

Hi @Ivan Čukić,
This patch seems a rather drastic approach to the problem
Yes it is the easiest way to address the problem, but not a user friendly one
and cripples KDE functionality...It makes totally impossible to use preview on
any file on encrypted volumes. It does even cripples gwenview browse mode...
and many users would like to have previews even on encrypted volumes...

So is it possible for you or someone to think of a more user friendly way to
cope with the issue?
For example isn't there a way to make KIO (thumbnails) generate
previews/thumbnails and show them in dolphin/gwenview/etc but not store them on
disk (maybe something using bSave or bNeedCache). Even if next time the user
revisits the same folder to regenerate all from scratch?

Besides from a security point of view, once an encrypted volume is mounted, it
is totally exposed to services and applications running under the user session
- like baloo, tracker, kactivitymanagerd etc, - so in a way a total security
fix is actually hard to achieve...

Thanks

2018-11-03 Thread PhobosK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400631

Bug ID: 400631
Summary: KDE Connect duplicating phone root folders in Dolphin
on refresh
   Product: kdeconnect
   Version: 1.3.2
  Platform: Compiled Sources
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: common
  Assignee: albertv...@gmail.com

  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 116066

KDE Connect - Dolphin folder duplicate screenshot

SUMMARY
When opening a phone storage in Dolphin it starts from the phone's root folders
like: SD card, Internal storage, Camera pictures(SD card), Camera
pictures(Internal storage). When hitting Refresh button or clicking on the
phone's icon to the left, all these storage folders are duplicated. Every
Refresh adds another duplication of the storage folders. The duplication
doesn't happen if you enter in on of the root folders.
After closing Dolphin and re-opening again, going to the phone root storage,
enlists the folders properly, but Refresh duplicates again...

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin and select the phone storage (or open phone storage from the
KDE Connect applet)
2. After root phone folders are listed properly, hit Refresh in Dolphin, or
reselect the phone storage
3. All available root storage folders are duplicated
4. On every refresh they are duplicated again

OBSERVED RESULT
Multiple duplicated root phone storage folders

EXPECTED RESULT
The root phone storage folders to stay the same number and name.

Can I propose one more idea:

Make the Vault applet like the Network Manager applet - clean of any buttons on
bottom, with a configure icon at the top right side at the level of the
applet's name + enlisted Vaults that when clicked has their current options.
The configure icon button to open a kcm module (just like the Network manager's
kcm_networkmanagement) where left side has the Vaults enlisted (if any) with a
+ and - button at the bottom. The right side of the kcm module to enlist the
selected vault's properties The + button may be a submenu with two choices:
"Import existing vault" and "Create new vault"...

This way there will be consistency in user experience because a lot of apps use
this like Network Manager, KTP (KDE Telepathy), KDE Connect

[Plasma Vault] [Bug 386200] Import Vault

Well my purpose will not be to convince you in something ;) It's your
application and so your decision how to do the things :)

But in my case I have a couple of Vaults in other places in my home folder...
They are created either by directly using the cli of encfs or by other
applications like cryptkeeper, kencfs-plasma etc I want them to be listed
and accessible in one interface though - preferably a KDE app and I want them
to stay where they are (not to be moved to some hidden folder)... Sadly kencfs
has problems, so I was happy when I first saw Vault. But next the lack of
adding already existing vaults was a turn off..

So having Vaults in other places locally is a valid use case IMHO...
Even if that place is not local but a cloud... no matter of the security
implications.. it should be a valid case too... 'cause I think one of the most
important reasons users still stay in KDE is the vast options of configuration
of almost all things in it... as opposed to GNOME.. where it's more like a
disaster when trying to configure something ...

If you ask me KDE is all about tech savvy users :) But this dbus call... well
it is too tech savvy.. People either have to go through the code carefully, or
have to see this bug report where you mention the dbus call ;) or of course go
through all the dbus interface of kded5.. Anyway as @Nate Graham said.. why do
something so functional that would stay deeply hidden ;)

Sorry for the long post... It has nothing to do with bug reporting I know...
but couldn't help expressing my opinion...

I didn't even know there was such an option/action already implemented... Had
to dig through the code and find out it's done through a dbus call...

Any plan implementing this in the UI - a button or something like this?
