Can you test the same scenario after putting
KWIN_DRM_NO_DIRECT_SCANOUT=1
into /etc/environment and rebooting? Do you still see stutter then?

No reaction since 2019.

I suggest two work arounds for easy access to "reply to all..."

1) the hotkey by default is "A". Just type a and you can reply to all.
2) you can customise the toolbar and add next/instead of "reply..." the tool
button "reply to all".

I suggest to close this bug report as INTENTIONAL/WORKSFORME.

I think we should distinguish between two slightly different situations:

2) few non-changing recipients (cake of the bug reporter)

Create separate identities for each email address and configure the appropriate
SMTP sender. Kmail switch to the respective identity when replying to mails.
Furthermore, the identity chooser can also be enabled in the composer view, so
that users get an easy drop-down selection field to overwrite the identity on a
case-by-case (here email) basis.

2) many non-stable recipients due to the use of sub addressing, e.g.
myname+onlinesh...@host.com or mycompany+clie...@host.com

Here, it is likely not feasible to setup identities for each sub address. Note
that there is no common standard for sub addresses. Sometimes it is "+",
sometimes it is "-". Hence, detection is non-trivial.

As (1) solves the issue of the bug reporter and (2) is somewhat different, I
suggest to either close this bug report as solved or change the title to be
explicit that this bug report covers now rather (2).

[kwin] [Bug 487780] New: Fullscreen game stutter when Plasma receives notifications.

2024-05-29 Thread Robert
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487780

Bug ID: 487780
Summary: Fullscreen game stutter when Plasma receives
notifications.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.5
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: performance
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org

https://discuss.kde.org

If you're reporting a crash, attach a backtrace with debug symbols; see
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

SUMMARY
When playing fullscreen games, in particular games using Steam Proton and DXVK
(most likely all fullscreen games), there is a momentary drop in frame rate as
the desktop notification is received and again as it disappears. It is
important to clarify that nothing actually renders over the game, only the
momentary stutter that corresponds with the time the notification would appear
on the desktop had the game not been running fullscreen. This should not be
happening since nothing is actually rendered over the game and nothing should
be disturbing the rendering process with direct scanout working consistently.
This happens with all notifications and is most noticeable for me with KDE
Connect messages from my phone.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Make sure "Screen Tearing: Allow in fullscreen windows" is enabled in Plasma
display configuration.
2. Launch a Vulkan game in fullscreen mode.
3. Set VSync in the game or a constant frame rate so that the game is perfectly
smooth (Preferably use a Vulkan hood such as DXVK_HUD with frametimes graph
overlay).
4. Trigger a desktop notification such as a text message with KDE Connect via
Android.
5. Observe a sudden momentary stutter and corresponding spike in the frametime
graph when a notification comes in to the desktop such as KDE Connect and once
again when it disappears.

OBSERVED RESULT
A momentary stutter and spike in frametime is observed when Plasma gets a
notification in an otherwise perfectly smooth VSync'd game experience.

EXPECTED RESULT
The frame rate should remain perfectly smooth with no stutter during background
notification reception and frametimes should be consistent all the time.

Git commit aef14f05c994d71db290511ac26864b1073470a6 by Nate Graham.
Committed on 02/06/2021 at 21:01.
Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master' https://tubidy.diy/.

Make results delegate list items a bit taller with bigger icons

We generally use the smallMedium (22px) icon size for
small-ish-but-not-too-small icons as they have a better visual balance
with adjacent text, compared to the small (16px) icon size. 22px icons
also generally look better than 16px icons. Moving the results list
items to use smallMedium icons offers a better visual balance, and
adding a tiny of vertical padding balances out everything a bit more
to provide more "breathing room" between the rows https://y2mate.diy/.

As a consequence, the maximum number of results visible at once has to
decrease a bit, but this is generally not a major problem as the user
can simply keep typing to refine their search to find what it is they're
looking for https://emp3juice.blog/.

using Kate more regularly.

One feature I am particularly missing is the GIT Conflict Solver like displayed
on that page for example:

Is it technically feasible to implement this, as a plugin for example?

I don't know if the kind of textarea Kate/Kwrite is using would be able to
support clickable buttons like this?

Thank you.

I would expect Kmail/Kontact to possess the necessary permissions by default.

warning even though I have not touched any location-related elements in the
contact card: "Location was not saved. Do you want to close editor?"

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. create a new contact in an addressbook (I use a carddav remote addressbook)
2. add a name and an email address
3. click save
4. see the warning: Location was not saved. Do you want to close editor?

OBSERVED RESULT

I get a warning that I have to accept.

EXPECTED RESULT

I only get such a warning if I have changed the location fields.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS

I am using the fedora repository flatpak of kontact in version 6.0.2.

[korganizer] [Bug 486836] New: more privacy for event invitees when sending out calendar invitees or share ICS files

2024-05-10 Thread Robert Riemann
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486836

Bug ID: 486836
Summary: more privacy for event invitees when sending out
calendar invitees or share ICS files
Classification: Applications
   Product: korganizer
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: invitations
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: rob...@riemann.cc
  Target Milestone: ---

I tagged this as a feature request. However, in some regions with strict
privacy laws demanding "data minimisation" and privacy by default, this could
be interpreted as a legal obligation that would merit a classification as bug.

SUMMARY

KOrganizer allows to share event details with invitees using two ways:
1. add people as participants
2. right click on event and click on "send as iCalendar..."

In both cases, the names and mail addresses of invitees are revealed to other
invitees, thus impacting their privacy.

Note that in all cases, the actual contact data sharing is not made transparent
to the event organiser.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. create a new event
2. add two people as invitees
3. see that each invitee can see in the email all other invitees
4. go back to Korganiser and click right on an event in the month view, choose
in the context menu "send as iCalendar" and add two mail addresses
5. find in the sent mail folder that both mail addresses are in the "to"
instead of "bcc"

OBSERVED RESULT

Invitees see mail addresses and names of other invitees.

EXPECTED RESULT

Invitees can only see mail addresses and names of other invitees if the event
organiser has made an explicit choice to share this data.

Linux/KDE Plasma: 6.0
I am using Kontact flatpak 6.0.2 from the fedora repository. According to some
Matrix channel, the fedora flatpak is built the same way like the KDE kontact
flatpak on flathub.

Until this is fixed - thanks Tuomas for all your work with amarok - I'm fudging
this by hand editing ~/.local/share/amarok/dynamic.xml and changing (without
amarok running!)length6000 - if 10
minutes to length600 which seems to
work - but making sure I don't attempt to edit the value within amarok.

Reopening as I'm still seeing this, the problem (only noticed with ogg files)
appears sporadically. I had a track 3 days ago marked as played - then - but
today replaying it and other ogg files doesn't update the last played time.

Thank you for your reply. From what I can see, it is indeed 6.0.4.

For now I downgraded to 6.0.3 and I don't have such issues.

With current software, I cannot reproduce the issue from two years ago.

I tried several variations of this procedure:
  - Open Gwenview, or click 'Home' icon if already open.
  - Click 'Recent Locations' in the 'Places' tab.
- The 'Recent Locations' window is displayed.
  - Click the 'Home' icon.
- The 'Recent Folders' sub-window/tab and the
  'Places' sub-window/tab are displayed.
  - {Click | Double click | Click, } 'recentlyused:/locations/'
in the 'Recent Folders' tab.
- The 'Recent Locations' window is displayed.

I also created a new user to repeat the tests with initially empty
'Recent Folders' and 'Recent Locations'. There were no problems at all.

Not sure I've ever used that dialog before, though maybe there's a bug report

Even with your pointer I hunted around 'Configure Amarok' before finding it
elsewhere in the Playlist menu. Yes could IMHO be simpler.

[amarok] [Bug 485847] New: Add mouseover popup on playlist

2024-04-20 Thread robert marshall

Summary: Add mouseover popup on playlist
Classification: Applications
   Product: amarok
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Playlist
  Assignee: amarok-bugs-d...@kde.org
  Reporter: rob...@capuchin.co.uk
  Target Milestone: kf5

Actually running 2.9.83 (not selectable above)

In the music library (Local Music) there's a mouseover popup giving the full
track name. That doesn't happen on the playlist and with long track names
you're uncertain which track is in the queue if there are similar names in that
album. To find out I'm forced to use 'Edit track details' - typically I want to
add the tracks with similar names to the playlist to go with the track that's
been added by the dynamic playlist I'm using by then going to 'Show in Media
Sources'. I think it would be useful if there were a popup here too.

Classification: Applications

When the wikipedia applet is used and the playback finishes (either stop or
stop after this track) the applet clears. I think it would be useful if it
didn't clear (at least for me!).
Use case:
I'm reading the article and I haven't finished reading it by the end of track
and I want to continue reading and the next track has a different artist, so I
set it to stop at the end but it clears the article which is, I think,
unhelpful.

It would also be go with more help in that dialog, you can start of the process
with only highligting one of the sources so in theory the local collection
syncs with itself?! Disable next if only one thing selected?

SUMMARY
Synchronisation with last.fm never completes and when amarok is restarted none
of the stats have been retrieved from last.fm

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Invoke sychronisation select local collection and last.fm and click next
2. The process never completes

I built a local copy of liblastfm with some debugging placing
qDebug() << "liblastfm post request:" << params;
in lastfm::ws::post

and got the following

I'm still seeing this one with 2.9.83 - my suspicion is that's it's UTF-8
related though a track with the title "Winterreise op. 89, D. 911: Täuschung"
works but the one in the original bug report "Chorale: Erkenne mich, mein
Hüter" doesn't?

[dolphin] [Bug 466115] [Regression] Custom horizontal lines/bars in context menu no longer possible

2024-04-07 Thread Robert-André Mauchin
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466115

Fix proposal:

https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/merge_requests/1608

Commit 33785332 has purposely ordered actions by their name. However, this
break separators in service context menus.

For example:

Actions=progressive;optimize;SEPARATOR;compress_50;compress_70;compress_75

The separator would end up at the end of the list:

Actions=compress_50;compress_70;compress_75;progressive|optimize;SEPARATOR

And since the logic check is the separator is the last item to add it:

!actions.last()->isSeparator()

separators basically disappear from service context menus.

The purpose of this commit is then to create groups of actions between each
separator. Actions will be sorted withing these groups, but it will keep
service menus original organisation.

SUMMARY
This is a feature request. I have a hot-swappable bays on my computer. I would
like either a custom icon or a custom suffix to distinguish them from
non-removable drives. (hot swap is an option in the UEFI so, is it detectable
by Linux? has Dolphin not implemented the feature?)

for example "foo_drive", would become "(hot) Foo_Drive" or "(SATA4) Foo_Drive"
etc.. .
The suffix shouldn't change when a new drive is inserted into the slot, but the
drive name should.
very useful for larger systems or servers with lots of drives.

I'm also on Arch and found that line 1 of "/usr/lib/kde_ufw_plugin_helper.py"
was "#!_Python3_EXECUTABLE-NOTFOUND". After changing to "#!/usr/bin/python3",
plasma-firewall started working. I don't know if the problem is Arch specific
or not, but this is a temporary work around if you want the UI instead of using
the CLI.

"it's a feature, not a bug". Adding a profile gives the "New Tab" sub-menu the
items ["Built-in", "Profile 1"]. This confused me when my assigned new-tab
keyboard shortcut wasn't working.
It would be nice if "New Tab" wasn't a sub-menu to the actual actionables when
this behavior isn't explicitly desired.

SUMMARY
I'm running fedora 38 kde spin (5.27.10-1.fc38.x86_64). My laptop has an
external hdmi monitor mirroring laptop panel, and is configured NOT to sleep
when the lid is closed and a external monitor is connected. That works. The
other day I also configured it to turn of the display after 15 minutes. This
works, but then the system suspends, apparently having forgotten that the
external monitor is connected. This is all with AC power, set to never sleep
automatically.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. connect external monitor
2. configure to not sleep when lid closed with monitor connected
3. close lid
4. configure to turn of screen after 1 minute and apply changes
5. wait one minute

OBSERVED RESULT
screen is turned off, then laptop sleeps

EXPECTED RESULT
screen is turned off, but laptop does not sleep

SUMMARY
tried submitting a bug for what i would logically call "widgets". its probably
a daughter part of a bigger program but because i am not a developer i have no
clue what to call it other than widgets.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. not be a developer
2. have a problem with widgets
3. cant find the right application on the website because there is no search
facility.

OBSERVED RESULT
a frustrated user.

EXPECTED RESULT
a slightly less frustrated user.

IDEAS
1)update website with search functionality.
2)add a settings page in kde-plasma that handles bug reports. (it could even
have an eye dropper tool, so you can select the app that your having problems
with. )

[NeoChat] [Bug 481458] New: feature request: hotkeys for jumping in the chat

2024-02-17 Thread Robert Riemann
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481458

Bug ID: 481458
Summary: feature request: hotkeys for jumping in the chat
Classification: Applications
   Product: NeoChat
   Version: 23.08.4
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: fe...@posteo.de
  Reporter: rob...@riemann.cc
CC: c...@carlschwan.eu
  Target Milestone: ---

Dears,

in Firefox, I can jump to the page top or bottom with Pos1/end key.
In Dolphin, I can jump in the folder view to the top or bottom with Pos1/end
key.
In gwenview, I can jump to the first and last picture in the gallery veiw with
Pos1/end key.

For consistency and comfort, it would be neat to also have (customizable)
hotkeys for jumping to the top and more importantly, to the bottom, in NeoChat!

[kdeconnect] [Bug 481389] Possible "fix" for reliability issues

2024-02-16 Thread Robert Walker
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481389

Thanks for the consideration and info - great to know different SMS functions
will have their own threads.

I'll continue to monitor and try to contribute how I can. I think this is a
great effort and something that I find very valuable; if there are other ways I
can contribute please don't hesitate to ping me (testing, documentation, etc.).
I'm new to the KDE project but have a pretty significant C# & SQL background
and hope to get involved soon. Thanks for the effort!

[kdeconnect] [Bug 481389] New: Possible "fix" for reliability issues

2024-02-15 Thread Robert Walker
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481389

Bug ID: 481389
Summary: Possible "fix" for reliability issues
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdeconnect
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Debian unstable
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: efficiency, reproducible, usability
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: messaging-application
  Assignee: si...@ergotech.com
  Reporter: kde.i6...@simplelogin.com
  Target Milestone: ---

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Attempt to use KDE Connect with years of messages saves on SIM (in my case,
165k+)

OBSERVED RESULT
Lagging interface, messages not loading/sending, etc. Inconsistent performance
and issues with usability as messages continue to load each time the desktop
application is launched. Have observed messages "lost" on send, unexpected
loading behavior, etc.

EXPECTED RESULT
The ability to receive and send SMS messages.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma:
Operating System: Debian GNU/Linux 12
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.10
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.107.0
Qt Version: 5.15.10
Kernel Version: 6.6.15-amd64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D 8-Core Processor
Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT
Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
Product Name: X570 AORUS MASTER
System Version: -CF

PROPOSAL:
When I began looking at this I thought the original fix to this issue might be
caching messages to a local DB and revising that implementation, but I have had
another idea I want to share with the developer. I think may take significantly
less time and testing. I believe this is observed behavior that is behind many
bug reports on this site, and off-site threads I have observed exploring
KDEConnect (stack, reddit, etc.).

I have deleted over 130k of my messages to reduce the SMS load to a more
reasonable "1 year of history" and have roughly 35k messages. With this done,
the app is snappy and works great, as expected.

I believe allowing a configuration setting for the plugin (or perhaps it best
lives in the KDEConnect app to reduce SMS parsing?) to only load the last "X"
messages or since "Y" date would fix many performance issues and give 99% of
users the experience they are looking for - the ability to respond to
relatively recent messages with snappy performance and reliable transit,
without adding additional logic to caching messages or establishing new
databases/data integrity.

I believe most users want to respond to current messages, or messages from
recent memory, when using this program effectively. Adding these settings would
be a "low cost" way to address performance issues for large SIM databases
without asking users to delete messages from their record source. Thanks for
your consideration.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Import a video+audio clip recorded at 4x speed
2. Use "change speed" to speed up the clip 400% so it plays back at normal
speed
3. Import an audio-only clip recorded at normal speed
4. Drag both clips to different tracks on the timeline
5. Select the sped-up audio as reference
6. Align the normal-speed audio to reference
7. Notice that the alignment is wildly incorrect.

OBSERVED RESULT

Alignment of normal-speed audio to slo-mo audio sped up to normal speed is
entirely wrong.

EXPECTED RESULT

Normal-speed audio aligns correctly to reference audio which is slo-mo audio
sped up to match normal speed.

[kate] [Bug 477856] IBUS ignored

2023-12-01 Thread Robert Dady
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477856

Description not quite correct .. sorry.
Having ibus running one can type as expected and switching inputs also works.
But if I kill ibus, no input is accepted any more.
Having switched ibus back on, input is still not accepted.
Regardless of input method.

(Ibus running idle consumes some CPU that I prefer to save for other tasks,
that is why the killing)
