Crash still happening with Kontact 5.2.3.

I've even blown away my Akonadi DB in the last month to try and fix it to no
avail.

[kdenlive] [Bug 369659] kdenlive does not use ffmpeg if first started without ffmpeg being installed

2016-10-02 Thread Samuel via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369659

For anybody encountering this dreaded error, either remove the config file
(~/.config/kdenliverc) and start fresh, or go to Settings, Configure Kdenlive,
Environment, and enter the full path to ffmpeg and other tools in there (for
ffmpeg, /usr/bin/ffmpeg should do). Save the settings.

[kdenlive] [Bug 369659] New: kdenlive does not use ffmpeg if first started without ffmpeg being installed

2016-10-02 Thread Samuel via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369659

Bug ID: 369659
Summary: kdenlive does not use ffmpeg if first started without
ffmpeg being installed
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 16.08.1
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Video Display & Export
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: samuel+kde@dionne-riel.com

It seems kdenlive does not have an appropriate fallback when ffmpeg is not
installed at first run. The setting key `ffmpegpath` does not seem to resolve
to an installed ffmpeg instance even after a full close and start of the
application.

This is present in (at least) the extract zone job.
 - src/project/jobs/proxyclipjob.cpp

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
(Reproducibility: tricky to reproduce)

These steps assumes the developer does not want to remove ffmpeg to test, it
gives out the same result, but it has not been verified that it is the same
actual issue.

0. Remove the ffpmeg key from your ~/.config/kdenliverc file. Removing it from
the settings panel *does not have the same effect*.

1. Add a clip
2. Select an in and out point (optional?)
3. Right click the preview and select Extract Zone
4. Accept the options
5. Observe the warning label in the Project Bin (Failed to create file.)
6. Observe the stdout(err?) warning. (QIODevice::read (QProcess): device not
open)

Actual Results:
The process could not be started.

Expected Results:
Kdenlive should

A. When ffmpeg is not executable:
1. inform the user that ffmpeg could not be found, or try some known sane
defaults (/usr/bin/env ffmpeg ?)

B. The error output should be made available to the user, but not necessarily
all shown by default.

Everytime:
1. Print the whole command line it tried to execute from QProcess,
2. if the executable process is an empty string (not verified), print some kind
of warning? Use some kind of default?

The severity is kind of "Minor", but actually "Grave" for a user, even a power
user, since the error is actually opaque, and the dependency is actually
present.

(This was reported on behalf of another user, but verified and reproduced by
me.)

[plasmashell] [Bug 356225] Panel moves to wrong screen when external monitor is connected

2016-07-05 Thread Samuel via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356225

While the comment was made that KDE Plasma Version 5.7 was going to resolve
problems with an external display, I have found that it has made these problems
worse! I am on Kubuntu 16.04 and when I encounter big problems, I delete the
files in ~/.local/share/kscreen and then use System Settings to set the
displays as I want them.

In my opinion the worsening indicates that work is being done in this area and
has yet to be completed. The release schedule for 5.7 can be found here:
https://community.kde.org/Schedules/Plasma_5. By scrolling down the list you
will see that every week a new version is released, ie 5.7.1, 5.7.2 and
thereafter it is about every fortnight.

So, I am patiently waiting for this problem to be fixed and I will jump for joy
when it is finally fixed!

Currently when I hover a button in the toolbar, I get a description of the
function.
It would be nice if also the keyboard shortcut would be displayed in brackets
there so that one can easily see which shortcut they can use for the action.

For example: "Continue application execution (F5)"

Location of Panels after booting system

This image illustrates the location of panels on the external display after
startup. Note that the external display is on the LEFT of the Laptop screen.
Both panels where on the Laptop screen before shutting down.

When the side panel is on the Laptop. the More Settings > Visibility Settings
are ineffective.

THESE PROBLEMS DO NOT OCCUR WHEN THE EXTERNAL DISPLAY IS ON THE RIGHT OF THE
LAPTOP SCREEN.

LibreOffice Impress using F5 for a Presention has no Control Screen

The image shows LibreOffice Impress on the Primary Display and the presentation
on the External Display which, under presentation conditions, would drive an
Image Projector. I am using the NVidia driver with the hdmi connection s for
all other examples.

In the image, the previously displaced image on the External Display is
evident. More importantly, the LO Impress is in the edit mode and not showing
the Presentation control window which shows the current image, the next image,
time displays and advancement arrows.

I tend to think that this is a KDE problem as LO Impress works perfectly when I
use my Intel Card driver.

External Left Display causes Panel Settings>Visibility to be ineffective

Kubuntu 16.04 with KDE Plasma 5.6.3. With External Screen on Left, a panel
with applications on my primary display cannot be made so that Windows can
cover. Panel > More Settings > Visibility Options are ineffective. I have
been through all Visibility Options and nothing happens.

If I put the panel with applications on the left side of the External Display
all the Visibility Options work as they should. It only fails when the panel
with applications are on the left side of the primary display and the External
Display is on the left.

If I make the External Screen on the Right, Visibility Options all work as they
should.

The above behaviour occurs for both the Intel and Nvidia driver options.

I plan to add separate examples of Nvidia driver with an External Display on
the Left of the Primary Display.

[user-manager] [Bug 361918] New: NVIDIA Driver with External Display on Left, Fails

2016-04-17 Thread Samuel via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361918

Bug ID: 361918
Summary: NVIDIA Driver with External Display on Left, Fails
   Product: user-manager
   Version: 5.5.5
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
   URL: https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php?69777-NVI
DIA-Driver-with-External-Display-on-Left-Fails/page2
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcontrol module
  Assignee: afies...@kde.org
  Reporter: sbc_hates_s...@yahoo.com.au

The URL is on the Kubuntu Forums where there is discussion and examples of this
problem. With an hdmi connection to the External Monitor, and when the System
Settings has External monitor on the Right, cursor movements between left and
right across the displays works correctly. However, if System Settings is used
to shift the external monitor to the Left of the primary display, and the
system rebooted, after the change the left monitor image shifts horizontally
with cursor movement. Also, System Settings shows no display information under
these conditions.

When dealing with these problems, I can recover by deleting
~/.local/share/kscreen.

My hardware is an ASUS R501VM-S3150, with a NVIDIA GT630M. The operating system
is Kubuntu 16.04 and the NVIDIA driver is the nvidia-364.15

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Boot the system and open the NVIDIA X Server Settings and select NVIDIA.
Shut Down and connect an external monitot via hdmi and reboot. Open System
Settings > Display and Monitor and locate the external monitor on the left of
the primary display.
2. Shut Down and Re-Boot
3. Use the cursor to move between the left and right screens and note the
shifting image on the Left External display

Actual Results:
Image on the Left external display moves with cursor movement. LibreOffice
Presentation does not work correctly, ie the control panel for Slide Shows is
not presented. Also, Display Settings does not show any monitor.

Expected Results:
I expect to be able to move the cursor between screens without the background
changing.
I also expect a Slide Show from LibreOffice to work correctly with a control
screen visible.
I also expect the System Settings to show the displays.
I also expect glxgears to show manny more than 60fps.

It's sort of better, but I wouldn't consider it fixed - what is opened is
actually (for example using the link for this bug in the email that was
triggered by your comment):

/home/chris/.cache/kioexec/krun/3830_0_show_bug.cgi

rather than the proper URL, consequently the page is not rendered correctly.

I'm on the latest version from Kubuntu (via their backports PPA which was
updated only a few days ago) which is:

KMail 5.0.2
KDE Frameworks 5.18.0
Qt 5.5.1 (built against 5.5.1)
The xcb windowing system

They don't appear to have KMail 5.0.3 yet, when was that released?

thanks!
