[kwin] [Bug 452219] Low fps and high CPU usage on external monitor connected to NVIDIA when default GPU is Intel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452219 --- Comment #83 from d_avery --- I can also confirm that this issue is present with the new Nvidia beta driver 560. Frame pacing is inconsistent and visual glitches often appear on the external monitor (240Hz Alienware) connected directly to the laptop's dedicated nvidia GPU while the desktop environment is being rendered by the integrated (AMD) GPU. [kwin] [Bug 488982] [Presentation Time] Having proprietary NVIDIA drivers loaded breaks Chromium Vsync on wayland.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488982 --- Comment #3 from d_avery --- Okay, it looks like Chromium kept picking to run on my Nvidia GPU instead of the integrated AMD one, I don't know why. Using firejail to blacklist the process from accessing /sys/class/drm/card0 and /sys/class/drm/renderD128 (the files corresponding to my Nvidia GPU) forces Chromium to pick the AMD one. Fixing the issue. Systems with Nvidia graphics only might still be affected, but I can't test this. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 488982] New: [Presentation Time] Having proprietary NVIDIA drivers loaded breaks Chromium Vsync on wayland.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=488982 Bug ID: 488982 Summary: [Presentation Time] Having proprietary NVIDIA drivers loaded breaks Chromium Vsync on wayland. Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: unspecified Platform: Arch Linux OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: wayland-generic Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: o.rootedavi...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I have a laptop system with AMD Ryzen integrated graphics running Kwin, and a dedicated NVIDIA GPU I use with PRIME to run games. Having the nvidia proprietary drivers loaded, despite Kwin running on my AMD integrated GPU, breaks Chromium's ability to vsync to my 240Hz screen. It vsyncs correctly to my 120Hz laptop screen, but not my 240Hz one. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 0. Use hybrid system with AMD Integrated graphics running Kwin, with NVIDIA dedicated graphics on the side. 0. Alternatively, try this with a fully-NVIDIA system (I'm not sure if the issue is also present in this case. I don't have such a system) 1. Make sure nvidia drivers are loaded and system is connected to a 240Hz screen (and a lower refresh rate one? I'm also unsure if this bug happens only with multiple-monitor setups) 2. Launch Chromium with --ozone-platform-hint=auto 3. Go to https://vsynctester.com OBSERVED RESULT Chromium fails to vsync (spiky frametime graph), framerate hovers at ~160-190 EXPECTED RESULT Chromium vsyncs to 240Hz. Smooth and stable frametime graph SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: EndeavourOS KDE Plasma Version: 6.1.0 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.3.0 Qt Version: 6.7.1 Kernel Version: 6.9.5-arch1-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics Memory: 15,0 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon Graphics Manufacturer: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482742 d_avery changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|FIXED |NOT A BUG --- Comment #15 from d_avery --- Nope. Nevermind. It's not solved. But I've also figured out what this bug is actually related to. Here's what I found: seems like just *having the proprietary nvidia driver loaded* breaks Chromium vsync on 240Hz, despite Kwin running on my AMD GPU. The only reason I thought it was fixed was that I forgot that I was in the middle of switching to beta nvidia drivers, and I didn't finish it. So when I loaded up my system, it wasn't loaded, and I just so happened to have installed plasma 6.1 at the same time. I'll create a new bug report. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452219 --- Comment #73 from d_avery --- I think te recent influx of reports of this bug are simply caused by the lack of explicit sync (linux-drm-syncobj), for which there is an open merge request on the Kwin side and Nvidia proprietary driver side. An option to show the percentage next to the icon, similar to how the Weather widget has the option to show the temperature next to the icon, would be a nice addition, as both the icon would be fully visible, and the percentage could be displayed in a larger, more visible font size. [kwin] [Bug 482742] New: [Presentation Time] Limited to 120 Hz syncing!
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482742 Bug ID: 482742 Summary: [Presentation Time] Limited to 120 Hz syncing! Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 6.0.1 Platform: Arch Linux OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: wayland-generic Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: o.rootedavi...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Prior to Plasma 6, there was no support for Presentation Time, so Chromium and other apps relying on the protocolon Wayland outright failed to v-sync, and ran at an arbitrary frame rate around 60 FPS. Tested with https://vsynctester.com on Chromium Wayland: Now that Plasma 6 has support for Presentation Time, Chromium succeeds to get v-sync on my 120Hz screen, but not on my 240Hz screen. On my 240Hz screen, it goes up to about 120 FPS and "searches" for v-sync around that value. Tested with weston-presentation-shm, p2p is shown as about 8300 us -> dividing 1000 with 8.3 ms gives 120. STEPS TO REPRODUCE - Chromium: start with --ozone-platform=wayland, visit https://vsynctester.com. - weston-presentation-shm: run, then look at p2p value. OBSERVED RESULT - Chromium does not go above about 120 FPS on 120+ FPS screens. (I tested with 240Hz) - weston-presentation-shm only occasionally throws a p2p value around 4170 us (eyeing it, looks like about 10%) EXPECTED RESULT - Chromium syncs up to monitor refresh rate, not just up to 120 FPS. - weston-presentation-shm outputs p2p values corresponding to monitor refresh rate (1000 / 240 should be around 4170 us) SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: EndeavourOS KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.1 KDE Frameworks Version: 6.0.0 Qt Version: 6.6.2 Kernel Version: 6.7.8-arch1-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: Wayland -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=467966 d_avery changed: What|Removed |Added CC||o.rootedavi...@gmail.com --- Comment #2 from d_avery --- Hello. Are you using Lightly application style? I had the same issue. When I switched back to Breeze, it saved fine. But only the first 10 seconds or so. I couldn't get a video recording to save properly. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Spectacle] [Bug 466008] Spectacle - Rectangular region selector overlay is always vsync'd to the lowest refresh rate monitor
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466008 --- Comment #2 from d_avery --- (In reply to Noah Davis from comment #1) > Might be fixed in 23.04 since before the rectangle UI was one window > stretched across all screens and now it's one window for each screen. Thanks. Unable to check as of now, 23.04 hasn't yet been pushed to the official Arch repositories (April) and getting spectacle-git from the AUR requires me to swap a bunch of my KDE packages to git versions. I'd like to avoid doing that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Spectacle] [Bug 466008] New: Spectacle - Rectangular region selector overlay is always vsync'd to the lowest refresh rate monitor
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466008 Bug ID: 466008 Summary: Spectacle - Rectangular region selector overlay is always vsync'd to the lowest refresh rate monitor Classification: Applications Product: Spectacle Version: 22.12.2 Platform: Archlinux OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: minor Priority: NOR Component: General Assignee: m...@baloneygeek.com Reporter: o.rootedavi...@gmail.com CC: k...@david-redondo.de Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY When using the rectangular region mode in Spectacle, the overlay that appears (for selecting the region to be captured) is always vsync'd to the lowest refresh rate monitor in a multi-monitor setup. In my specific case, I have a 60 Hz, a 240 Hz and a 120 Hz monitor connected. When I take a screenshot with the rectangular region mode, the overlay that appears runs at 60 FPS on all monitors. This makes it look choppy/slow on the faster ones. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Launch KDE Plasma Wayland session 2. Connect monitors with different refresh rates 3. Launch Spectacle, take a rectangular region screenshot OBSERVED RESULT The frame rate of the overlay that appears to select the region is limited to the lowest refresh rate monitor (on all monitors). EXPECTED RESULT The frame rate of the overlay that appears to select the region should respect the different refresh rates of the monitors connected. [plasmashell] [Bug 465470] New: Panels and Application Launcher lose transparency when windows touch panels
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465470 Bug ID: 465470 Summary: Panels and Application Launcher lose transparency when windows touch panels Classification: Plasma Product: plasmashell Version: 5.26.90 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Panel Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: o.rootedavi...@gmail.com CC: niccolo.venera...@gmail.com Target Milestone: 1.0 SUMMARY When there is a maximized window (touching the bottom panel, for example), both the panel and the Application Launcher lose their transparency effect. They just become completely opaque. I don't understand what is causing this, or if it is possibly intended (although I don't know why it would be). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Launch KDE Plasma session (experienced on 5.26.5, still present on 5.26.90, both X11 and Wayland) 2. Maximize a window or make it touch a panel. OBSERVED RESULT Panel and Application Launcher immediately lose transparency effect. EXPECTED RESULT Panel and Application Launcher continue having a transparency effect. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux: 6.1.9-arch1-1 KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.5/5.26.90 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.102.0 Qt Version: 5.15.8 Graphics platform: issue applies to both X11 and Wayland. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[systemsettings] [Bug 465299] [5.26.90] [Suggestion] Add option to disable smooth/high-resolution scrolling in kcm_mouse
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465299 --- Comment #4 from d_avery --- Actually, if I understand correctly, the fixed bug would also affect other clients that expect low resolution scrolling, like the volume sliders you mentioned. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=465299 Bug ID: 465299 Summary: [5.26.90] [Suggestion] Add option to disable smooth/high-resolution scrolling in kcm_mouse Classification: Applications Product: systemsettings Version: unspecified Platform: Archlinux OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: kcm_mouse Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: o.rootedavi...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY 5.26.90 (5.27 beta) has added libinput 1.19 smooth/high-resolution scrolling to the Plasma Wayland session. This is a welcome addition, however it cannot be configured, and it is an issue: 1: Users may dislike this feature. 2: in games (e.g. Minecraft, scrolling through items in the hotbar becomes unreliable due to scroll interpolation or Counter Strike: Global Offensive, where the same applies to the weapon selector) There should be an option to easily disable this feature within kcm_mouse. libinput allows for configuring this feature, so it should be possible. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Start a Plasma Wayland session. 2. Open System Settings 3. Navigate to Input Devices > Mouse 4. Observe options 5. Navigate to Workspace Behavior > General Behavior 6. Observe options OBSERVED RESULT There is no option to disable smooth/high resolution scrolling, per mouse or system-wide. EXPECTED RESULT There should ideally be an option to disable smooth/high resolution scrolling, both per mouse and system-wide.
