[okular] [Bug 452095] Firefox user certificate store not recognized in Snap

2024-05-24 Thread ferdymercury
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452095

In my case, with flatpak, I was getting also the error that no certificate was
found.

Even if the default folder of mozilla was being found (when checking Configure
Backends, PDF, the path was correct). And in Firefox itself, about:certificate
showed the certificate.

What I did was to change the path to ~/.pki/nssdb, and then it worked.

So either Okular was not able to access .mozilla/profile/nssdb due to some
weird permissions (even if I activated everything with flatseal), or Firefox
was relying on a non-default position of the nssdb certificates being store in
.pki instead of within the Firefox profile.

I ended up installing Okular via flatpak instead of snap, there it works.

If you prefer to continue with snap, you might try to establish a symlink
between what snap considers its HOME folder and what your actual HOME folder
is, maybe it detects that then. See https://askubuntu.com/a/1257529/1179344

[okular] [Bug 462171] New: loop over PDFs in same directory

2022-11-23 Thread ferdymercury
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=462171

Bug ID: 462171
Summary: loop over PDFs in same directory
Classification: Applications
   Product: okular
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: fernando.hu...@uv.es
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Unlike other PDF viewers like Sumatra PDF reader, Okular lacks the ability of
quickly shifting with a keyboard shortcut to the next PDF available within the
same directory than the opened one. It would be really nice if this capability
could be added.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a folder with very similar PDF files, one called a.pdf and the other
called b.pdf
2. Open a.pdf in Okular
3. Press CTRL+SHIFT+Left and CTRL+SHIFT+Right repeatedly to quickly browse
between them

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens

EXPECTED RESULT
It would be a nice enhancement if Okular would close the current one and open
the next one automatically, for facilitating the comparison between them.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion.

Indeed, when I installed via flatpak, it works out of the box, the Firefox
certificate store is recognized and listed under PDF Backend config.
(Minor detail, in flatpak I have 21.12.3, whereas in snap I had 21.12.1).

The difference I see is in the default certificate folder:
- for flatpak: /home/user/.mozilla/firefox/abcd.default
- for snap: /home/user/snap/okular/112/.pki/nssdb (which does not exist)

In any case, I tried setting in the snap version the "custom folder" to
/home/user/.mozilla/firefox/abcd.default and it still does not recognize any
certificate.

Good point. I was in Tools, Selection mode... It works for me now that I switch
to browse mode as suggested.

Is there a way to warn the user via a popup to change mode, if he is
single-clicking on a video / form with a non-proper tool? (Just for the sake of
novice-user-friendliness.)

Bug ID: 452095
Summary: Firefox user certificate store not recognized
   Product: okular
   Version: 21.12.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: PDF backend
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: fernando.hu...@uv.es
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
On
https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/okular/okular/signatures.html#adding_digital_signatures,
it is explained that Digital Certificates will be automatically loaded from the
Firefox certificate store. I have four certificates active in Firefox.
However, in Okular, when I click on Tools, Digitally sign, it reports: "There
are no available signing certificates".

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Firefox on page about:certificate
2. Open Okular, try Tools, Digitally Sign
3. Go to Tools, Configure Backends, PDF

OBSERVED RESULT
1. Firefox about:certificate shows several certificates under "Your
certificates"
2. Digitally sign: There are no available signing certificates
3. Backends PDF List is empty

EXPECTED RESULT
Certificates are recognized. Maybe there is an issue when installing Okular
21.12.1 via snap (latest/candidate channel) on Ubuntu 18 ?

In any case, maybe there should be a way to load a certificate by hand if there
are problems with the Firefox certificate store. Using poppler's functionality
to open .p12 files:

[okular] [Bug 452094] New: animated PDFs controls cannot be clicked in presentation mode

2022-03-30 Thread ferdymercury

Bug ID: 452094
Summary: animated PDFs controls cannot be clicked in
presentation mode
   Product: okular
   Version: 21.12.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: PDF backend
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: fernando.hu...@uv.es
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Animated PDF controls can not be clicked in Presentation mode.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download
https://texample.net/media/tikz/examples/PDF/animated-definite-integral.pdf
2. Try to click on the controls in presentation mode
3. Exit presentation mode
4. Click on Show Forms
5. Click on the controls

OBSERVED RESULT
You can click the animated PDF controls in normal mode, but not in presentation
mode. Note that this behavior is exactly opposite to media9-movies, they can be
played in presentation mode but not in normal mode
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452093, which makes it hard to give a
presentation that contains both types of objects, as you have to keep switching
between modes.

Side note: If the generated Tikz is generated with 'autostart', then it plays
well both in normal and in presentation mode. Still, there is no way to click
on the controls in presentation mode.

EXPECTED RESULT
Both normal mode (after ShowForms is clicked) and presentation mode work
equally well.

Would it be maybe something rather for poppler ? (To have a PHP - API that

SUMMARY
The new feature for digitally signing PDFs is great! As a Linux user, this was
the last thing that kept me from needing a VirtualBox with Windows installed.
Just for signing PDFs, so thanks so much for the implementation.
As a potential future step, I wanted to suggest the following feature.

It would be useful if there would be a way to digitally fill out PDF forms and
digitally sign them directly on the web browser, within an embedded plugin for
okular. So to say, that when I develop my web server using PHP (or HTML), I
have the option to add a PHP or JS snippet, to offer the users filling out a
PDF form and uploading their certificate using an embedded version of okular
(that runs on the web server, behind the scenes). This way, any user could fill
out and sign forms from the phone, etc. without needing to have anything
special installed.

Thanks in advance!

SUMMARY
Thanks for supporting animated Beamers in okular!

I have come to an unexpected situation, where this animated PDF plays well in
Okular:
https://texample.net/media/tikz/examples/PDF/animated-definite-integral.pdf

which uses:
`\begin{animateinline}[loop, poster = first, controls, palindrome]{2}`

But this one does not:
https://tud.qucosa.de/api/qucosa%3A29620/attachment/ATT-1/ (page 6)

that uses:
`\begin{animateinline}[controls]{1}`

and gives the warning seen in the attachment.

Both of them play well in Adobe Reader.

Do you see a similar problem? I am using version 20.12.3
Are there plans to support this type of animations in the future? (As I can not
edit that published PDF any more)

Backup info: https://community.kde.org/GSoC/2019/StatusReports/Jo%C3%A3oNetto

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open PDF from first link above. Plays well.
2. Open PDF from second link above (page 6). Does not play.

OBSERVED RESULT
Second PDF animation does not play.

EXPECTED RESULT
Both should work

SUMMARY
I have a PDF file with a media9-embedded movie, that plays correctly (in
presentation mode) on apt-okular (Ubuntu 19), which has version 1.3.3.
I decided to install instead the newer version of okular via 'snap', namely
version 20.12.3. However, in this case, the movie does not play and the area
becomes black when I click to start the movie. All done in the same computer.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. On Ubuntu 19, install okular via apt
2. Open the attached PDF, enter presentation mode, click to Play, all works
well
3. Uninstall okular from apt
4. Install okular from snap
5. Open the attached PDF, click to Play, screen goes black

OBSERVED RESULT
Movie does not play in the newer okular version (snap)

EXPECTED RESULT
Movie plays independently on okular version.

I see a similar problem on 20.12.3:

Consider the following animated PDF:
https://texample.net/media/tikz/examples/PDF/animated-definite-integral.pdf

The animation works well when opening it in okular, but can not be started in
"presentation mode". Do you see a similar issue?

On the other hand, if I create the animation using the option 'autoplay' in
animateinline, then it plays also in presentation mode, but I can not 'stop
it'.

In comparison, in Adobe Reader, it works well in any case, it can be paused and
stopped in normal mode and in presentation mode.

Thanks for the support!
