Usualy I use Konsole split view with the new option "no title bar" in panes ( Bug 409581) but I cannot drag the pane to another position, and I don't know any shortcut to do this. Option 3 seems most reasonable to me since option 4 cannot be done. Hopefully it won't be a lot of work to maintain that list. Out of curiosity, does anyone know how Gnome (or maybe it's GTK) handles it?
