Another way to reproduce
```
qdbus org.kde.KWin /ColorPicker org.kde.kwin.ColorPicker.pick & qdbus
org.kde.KWin /Screenshot org.kde.kwin.Screenshot.interactive
```
kwin is restarted but only shows black screen. plasmashell, latte-dock are not
restarted. I have to switch to tty and kill everything and start new session
again

So this is not Wayland related. This started happening in 5.24 (I started using
wayland since this release). I was using xorg in 5.23 and today just checked
x11 session today 5.24 and this happens in xorg session as well.

In ~/.config/kwinrc, under `[Effect-kwin4_effect_scale]` I removed the
`Duration` line and now its working. (I remember it was working in 5.23).

Also there is no `AnimationDurationFactor` in my ~/.config/kwinrc

Also from UX point of view, if user changed the effect setting then it should
also change color like other changed settings. This way, User can know that
configuration is at play in situations like this.

SUMMARY

My laptop's screen is 1920x1080. While playing this game, I often reduce the
in-game resolution to 1368x768. Everything works fine on X11 (except It also
sets my screen resolution which I have to manually reset but it also happens in
xfce )
But On Wayland, setting resolution to lower than screen's results in game
window sticking to top left corner without entering fullscreen mode. Also when
pressed Alt+F3 -> more actions, Fullscreen option is disabled.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. start kde wayland
2. start Resident Evil 5
3. set resolution to lower than current screen resolution

OBSERVED RESULT

Game sticking at top-left corner in small size

EXPECTED RESULT

same as KDE on X11, game running in fullscreen

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I tested Xonotic by reducing its in-game resolution and it works as expected.
CSGO and TF2 were also working fine in lower resolution but I don't have them
installed now to test. It seems wine is doing something weird or Resident Evil
5 in particular. I don't have other wine games to test

Sorry. This is not correct. I was using linu-zen(https://liquorix.net). I
switched to vanilla linux-lts recently and that's when I noticed this issue.
I'm again now on linux-zen and I can't notice stuttering/laggyness. Its still
there if I closely look for it but its not that noticeable and it's completely
gone (becomes smooth as x11) if I set Latency to the "Prefer smoother
animations". So I can't say this started from 5.21.0.

SUMMARY

On wayland "Present Windows" animation is laggy. Its not that bad but
noticeable compared to how smooth it is on xorg. I tried setting all Latency
options in Compositor settings but still no change. other animations like
wobbly windows seems to work fine.

On x11 session, running GPU heavy task in background and bunch of windows open,
its still smooth compared to Wayland.

This problem did not occur when I tested 5.21.0. But I'm now on 5.21.5 and did
not checked wayland in between so cant say which version this bug affects from.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Log into Wayland session.
2. Open more than 10 windows
3. toggle "Present Windows"

OBSERVED RESULT

laggy Animation

EXPECTED RESULT

smooth animation as x11

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: common
  Assignee: kscreen-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: smit1...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

When I connect the external monitor to my laptop and suspend it by closing the
laptop lid and waking it up again by opening the lid it works as expected on
Xorg but not on Wayland. On Wayland my laptop's screen is disabled. It starts
for a sec and then goes black. I have to go to settings and check the "Enabled"
field manually to enable laptop screen. I can reproduce this all the time.

This only happens when I close the laptop lid. using "systemctl suspend" or
clicking the "sleep" button works fine and does not reproduce this issue.

I'm not sure if this is duplicate of
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=428424 cause sometimes it wont allow me to
enable my laptop screen at all. When I press the "Apply" button in display
settings, laptop screen starts for a second and again goes black and
applications like firefox, latte-dock .. etc crashes.Kwin also crashes
sometimes but restarts and wallpaper turns black. I can't reproduce this one
but when It happens, I have to log back into the Xorg session and set Display
settings there and then it works again in Wayland session. Even when Loged into
Xorg session, I can see bunch processes from last session still running and
taking 100% CPU

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Log Into KDE Wayland session with external monitor attached
2. Suspend laptop by closing lid.
3. Open lid to wake laptop

OBSERVED RESULT

Laptop Screen is disabled

EXPECTED RESULT

Like Xorg, Laptop screen and external monitor both starts normally

OS: Android 10.x
Status: REPORTED

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I have kirigami-gallery apk downloaded from
https://binary-factory.kde.org/view/Android/

I've tested it on 3 devices. The app is very laggy and slow on Samsung Galaxy
J4. The scrolling experience on the "Home" page is really bad.
The same goes for all Cards* pages. The "Inline Messages" page is to much slow.
This device runs heavy sites like youtube, Reddit, Instagram ..etc in firefox
and Samsung internet without any issue so I'm pretty sure hardware is not to
blame.

Video:- https://player.vimeo.com/video/479808754

I've also tested it on Lenovo k8 plus which is more powerful than Samsung one
but still same experience

Finally tested on Moto E7+ which newer and more powerful. Home Page and cards
view scroll just fine (cause of hardware of course) but "Inline Messages" page
is still slow. it is not slow as on the other two phones but it's noticeable.
same as the "Home" page on Samsung and Lenovo.

The "Inline Messages" page is slowest of them all.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install on Android
2. Scroll "Home", "Cards*" and "Inline Message" page

OBSERVED RESULT

Slow and Laggy Scrolling

EXPECTED RESULT

Smooth Scrolling

[plasmashell] [Bug 429087] New: Entire session crashes closing all running apps if kwin_wayland crashes

2020-11-14 Thread smit
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=429087

Bug ID: 429087
Summary: Entire session crashes closing all running apps if
kwin_wayland crashes
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.20.3
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: generic-crash
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: smit1...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

If kwin_x11 crashes, It restarts and session is not crashed. If I manually kill
it, I can just easily restart it from terminal and all my running apps are not
affected which is life saver but when kwin_wayland crashes, entire session
crashes which terminates all running applications.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. start plasma in wayland mode
2. somehow crash kwin_wayland

OBSERVED RESULT

Entire session crashes and all running (GUI)apps are closed

EXPECTED RESULT

kwin_wayland restarts without closing any running app like kwin_x11

I tested sddm also.

starting plasma with gdm, sddm and startplasma-wayland command and killing
Xwayland crashes/terminates the whole session

but when I used

XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland dbus-run-session /bin/kwin_wayland --drm --xwayland
--libinput startplasma-wayland

and killed Xwayland, it does not crash. xwayland restarts as expect and
everything works fine

hi,
I am still able to crash kde by killing Xwayland with startplasma-wayland and
gdm. I don't have second machine so I can't do ssh stuff so I used script
command on tty. I have attached the output of that script command above

Also I have found that this crash only happens with gdm and
startplasma-wayland.

I wasn't able to crash kde when I started kwin using following command:-

XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=kde QT_PLUGIN_PATH=`pwd`
dbus-run-session /bin/kwin_wayland --drm --xwayland --libinput plasmashell

[kwin] [Bug 427688] New: killing Xwayland crashes entire desktop

2020-10-14 Thread smit
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427688

Bug ID: 427688
Summary: killing Xwayland crashes entire desktop
   Product: kwin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: smit1...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

According to https://kde.org/announcements/plasma-5.20.0 whole desktop no
longer crashes even if XWayland does. So if I kill XWayland to simulate random
crash, It should just restart Xwayland instead of crashing entire desktop. But
when I send KILL signal to Xwayland process from Ksysguard, The entire session
crashes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. start plasma with wayland.

I tried with both GDM and following command on tty:-

QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland GDK_BACKEND=wayland XDG_SESSION_TYPE=wayland
dbus-run-session startplasma-wayland

2. send KILL signal to Xwayland process

OBSERVED RESULT

entire plasma desktop crashes

EXPECTED RESULT

Xwayland restarts

screenshot of cuttlefish and icons settings displaying current icon theme

currently cuttlefish only shows icons from current icon theme. It would be nice
to be able to choose another icon theme as some icons are missing in some
themes. currently I have to change icon theme of whole session to get missing
icons in cuttlefish.
missing icons do show up when I use them in my kirigami2 app thanks to theme
inheritance but cuttlefish does not display inherited icons too

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install font themes like Sweet-Teal,Candy icons ..etc
2. Open cuttlefish
3. Search for "save"

OBSERVED RESULT
no standard icon found

EXPECTED RESULT
found save icon

This also happens on WayFire. KDE apps don't remember remember size but other
apps like qBitorrent and thunar do.

Also konsole don't follow initial terminal size on WayFire. it always opens
with 138x18 regardless of initial terminal size setting.
