[digikam] [Bug 400552] Marking multiple pictures

2020-08-07 Thread Christian Gruber
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400552

So, what is the preferred way to select multiple images? I like to use the
preview for this, since I can see what I select, and I am using it anyway in
this moment.

Right / left is used to change the image, since you are in the preview. The
thumbnail bar is used to select an image for preview, it does not intend to
select multiple images, even if it is possible when the thumbbar is in focus.
We cannot redirect all keyboard inputs to the thumbbar because the selection
with shift key is in conflicts with facial tagging input.

I don't have the same opinion concerning the "of course": As I wrote,
Left/Right keys work as expected, even if the thumbnail window does _not_ have
the focus, while this is necessary for Shift-Left/Shift-Right.

Selecting with Shift-Left / Shift-Right works without problems here. Of course,
you first have to click in the thumbnail bar so that it has the focus, first
the image has the focus. I close the bug.

I just tried it again, and it did not work.
Left/Right keys worked as expected, bit Shift-Left/Shift-Right did not and
showed no effect.

Arbeitsablauf ablenkt.

Screenshot 1: Do not click in the thumbnail image to select an image, most of
the space is below the image. What you have in screenshot 2 is already the
preview and the thumbnailbar is not really meant to be selected. By your color
scheme you also see badly the size of the thumbnail.

So, I have attached a few screenshots to explain a bit more, A picture says
more than 1000 words...

(I try to translate the German words. Maybe the things are called differently
in English, though)

When you choose the album view of a directory, something like screenshot 1 is
shown. When you click on a picture, something like screenshot 2 is shown: The
clicked picture in big, and the other pictures of this directory in small. You
can change the big picture by pressing the left or right key, then the previous
or next picture of the small ones is shown. When you press Shift-Left/Right
here, nothing happens. Only when you click just above a small picture,
Shift-Left/Right has an effect (screenshot 3).

Perhaps the following phenomenon has the same reason: When I am in the editor
and want to increase/decrease the size of the displayed picture with Ctl-+ or
Ctl--, nothing happens also.

I do not understand the bug report, no thumbnails are showing bigger. Only the
background color is changed. Or do you already open the image preview? The
shift key works as expected in the selection as well. Can you please make
screenshots or better a screencast?

Exactly this has no effect unless a mouse click between two pictures occurs
before, only then the shift arrow keys work. I first have to grab the mouse,
aim precisely, and after that I can use the shift arrow keys to select multiple
pictures, not before this procedure.

With the keyboard, in iconview you can select more than one item side by side
using SHIFT key, without to use mouse (as with Dolphin file manager)...

the zone to open preview from icon view is the thumbnail image. The rest around
permit to select item.

Else you have also an overlay icon on the top, when mouse move over item.
Pressing this icon (+) will select item.
