What kind of people might that be? FYI, the forums are as valid of a place to
get help as here. Plus there you will find people who use xubuntu that might
help you out. Either way I have asked the packagers to give a look at the
package.

well, "it works on my machine" is not a very impressing answer. However, it
gives me a good feeling about what kind of people we have here.

I am running Kdenlive under Gnome and have no issues with themes nor icons. So
maybe reset your settings and see if it helps. Maybe purging and reinstalling
might do that as well... either way maybe this commands help you:

rm .config/kdenliverc

and

.local/share/kxmlgui5/kdenlive/kdenliveui.rc

There are some issues with layout configurations but that is a QT bug...
