You can try: Hit CTRL+SHIFT+, (comma)-> Environment -> there you can set the
FFMPEG paths.

thanks for your answer. Just to make sure, there is no way to use my own ffmpeg
version with the appimage kdenlive, is there?

Thank you for contribution and help. Hardware acceleration (GPU) is not
implemented due to stability issues so far. Hardware acceleration depends on
MOVIT integration on MLT. Dev's working on it.
