If there's a supported way to upgrade 20.04 LTS to KDE 5.19, I'm happy to help.

[kdeplasma-addons] [Bug 358124] Network applet stops updating

2020-11-02 Thread Bzzz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358124

ALL networking applets have stopped working after upgrading to Ubuntu 20.04
with the following versions
kf5-config --version
Qt: 5.12.8
KDE Frameworks: 5.68.0
kf5-config: 1.0
plasmashell --version
plasmashell 5.18.5

I'll see what an upgrade to 5.19 can do, if that doesn't break my entire
installation...

Can't tell, as I'm still using

plasmashell --version
plasmashell 5.12.9

with Kubuntu 18.04.5.
Maybe someone else can check on a newer install. I will probably update early
December when reaching 256 days of uptime...

My current Netspeed Widget does not have an update issue, but I'd still like to
see newly added interfaces in the task bar that also vanish when physically
removed. Maybe the System Monitor thing does that already.

Is this still an issue or relevant with the new System Monitor applet in Plasma
5.19 and beyond?

Let's bring this back up and connect it to some older wishlist item...

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=291546 "Network monitor should
(optionally) show only connected devices" was closed recently as it was filed
for KDE4. This is still an, well, issue with KDE5, and I think it is connected
to this bug.

Due to my special snowflake WiFi card that needs attention after every
sleep->wakeup cycle, the Network Monitor applet thingy hangs a lot. I need to
click right on the applet, Configure Network Monitor, select the interface
again (this is also bugged as sometimes it does not show up at first, then gets
refreshed upon hitting Apply, and then works as expected), and then the monitor
resets and does its thing.

If we could do a periodic check which interface is available and up, there
could be an automatic start/stop of newly active/inactive interfaces. This
would also resolve this bug, which to me, sounds closely related. I'm using
traditional horizontal panel layout, so I doubt this is a problem that is
caused by the rotation of the entire panel.

kf5-config --version
Qt: 5.9.5
KDE Frameworks: 5.47.0
kf5-config: 1.0

This has nothing to do with the System Load Viewer plasmoid. Are you sure you
assigned this to the correct component?
