[kmymoney4] [Bug 357724] qif import defaults to UTF-8, need an option to choose other charsets

2017-10-30 Thread Jack

I think the resolution was for me to update the manual and faq. Comment 6 also
suggested an additional note be added to the import dialog - but I have not
checked if this was done. It is probably safe to say fixed in 5.0 since I do
not recall actually making the change to the docs.

How was this bug resolved and in which version ?
https://kmymoney.org/faq.php does not have any related entry, git log of
kmymoney source repo does not show any commit refering this bug and svn
translation repo too.

Thomas,

setting the command you suggested as an Import Filter works perfectly !
(Only I missed the idea to open the import profile dialog ;-)... !)

Thank you.

The only thing to think about is to document this feature of import filter to
help new users / prevent this question again.

Michel

Michel,

Since you just went through this, if you can propose a few sentences and where
in the manual they would be most effective, I'll be glad to actually include
them.

Jack, Wasn't this largely covered by Thomas in comment #2 ? Unless, perhaps,
in a FAQ for gotchas?

Character-set conversion is one particular use of the import filter, but as
there are others, I think it might be better instead of a hint about just one
of them, to refer the user to the handbook section.

Are you having to download first, then save in ISO-8859-1 before import?

Might your bank have a CSV format option, sometimes called excel or
spreadsheet, as the CSV importer does allow you to select a character set?

Otherwise, I'm afraid there might be a wait for a fix, and for your distro to
pick it up.

Separately, 4.6.6 is pretty old-hat now and it might be worth looking for
4.7.2. It won't help with your current problem, unfortunately, but numerous
bugs have been fixed.
