Is there a release date for 4.8 and will it be 4.8.0?

It is very unlikely that missing packages are causing your issue. Please have a
look at Bug 344013 (only the first comment).

Installing the suggested fix to this bug has not worked.

The following were installed in the admin account:

  - sudo apt-get update
  - sudo apt-get install systemsettings
  - sudo apt-get install plasma-theme-oxygen

The regular user account still has the 2 schedule icons missing.

I was thinking more along the lines of creating a snap package for KMM.

As you know, this would encapsulate all the resources that KMM would require
with zero KDE footprint on Ubuntu.

That is the kind of "workaround" that has high value.

Is it very complicated?

Installing the theme and systemsettings is the probable workaround :)

package systemsettings requires 2 additional packages.

package plasma-theme-oxygen requires 10 additional packages including the 2
above.

This strikes me as rather a heavy footprint just to get 2 icons.

May I suggest your next release of KMM have all resources native to the
package. If you want to get fancy; install a battery of packages, but this
should be optional - not mandatory.

Can you offer a workaround?

Sorry, I think you also need to install the KDE systemsettings tool, see this
page:

http://www.webupd8.org/2011/04/make-kde-applications-look-native-in.html

If systemsettings is not available try systemsettings5.

Ubuntu 16.04 theme settings

There are 3 choices in the drop down box. None are for KDE.

The only theme setting I can find is for Unity, not KDE.

See attached screenshot.

That would only happen if you changed your desktop to KDE and Plasma5 and
installing the theme alone shouldn't do that. If the install doesn't want to
install a large number of additional packages then it's probably safe to try.
Did you find a place to change the "KDE Theme" in unity? You probably need to
find that before you have much hope of getting this to work.

There is an oxygen plasma package on Ubuntu:

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/xenial/+package/plasma-theme-oxygen

If I install that as follows:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install plasma-theme-oxygen

Will my desktop look like this:

P.S. And then change the KDE Icon theme on Unity, if such an option exists
under Unity...

You might check then to see if there is a package that you can install related
to the "Oxygen" theme or icon set.

If you're using Plasma5, try using "Configure Desktop" (systemsettings5) to
change the icon set you're using. In systemsettings5, goto Icons, then
"Icons", and change the icon theme to "Oxygen".
