The command failed but with a suggestion to install kde-cli-tools, which I did. Now the button has started working, and I can also access the file associations through that command. But even after selecting "Show file in embedded viewer" and "Apply", Konqueror launches a separate viewer for PDFs, whether I use Okular or Document Viewer. Image files seem to open in the embedded viewer just fine.
