You are correct! I had that setting turned on. Repeating the steps with the setting turned off, I found that only one unnamed profile was being created (BTW this somehow feels counter-intuitive). Strange, given that just now I updated to KDE 5.22 with Konsole 21.04.1 and, in spite of that, I still see an increase in the number of unnamed profiles.
