we will be closer to this in Krita 4.0 with being able to load in images for
your preset when saving. The save as dialog will need a bit of work to allow to
give you an option to select a preset. As previously stated, we could use the
template files from here ...

I really like the ability to choose from a set of precreated icons, since a lot
of users don't need to slow down to craft a nice custom icon, they just need to
know the general class of tool it is.  If it were still possible to draw on the
icon after loading it up, that would be great, so we could add the example
scribble under the icon's pen tip as many do.

For myself, I would use the ability to choose a PNG file I create for it, as I
do like custom icons and find them better.
