We use the projection in two places: rendering to screen and saving an image. This actually might be gone in 4.0 pre-alpha, because there that is separated... Sorry I didn't see this message. I indeed have a Radeon card on the 2 macs that give me this problem (my third mac is a MacBook Air with an Intel Chipset and it works ok on it). I tried to uncheck the opengl support in the Krita settings page then quit and launched Krita again. I'm sure OpenGL is deactivated because the mouse cursor moves ultra-slowly. I tried with the latest 3.2.0 version and even when I check/uncheck a box in the PNG dialog box it still freezes randomly. @Boudewijn, just an idea here if it can help: the krita version I compiled from source myself doesn't crash when I export a file, but when I try to scale the picture (again, with my self-compiled version), I have a message telling me that it has been compiled without the support of the GNU scientific Library. Could this library be related to our export problem ? (explaining why on the same computer my compiled version exports files OK but not the downloaded one ?) Other idea: maybe only people with a specific software installed encounter the problem ? (I think particularly about XCode and the XCode additions) Maybe each person with this problem should send you a system report ? In latest build for Mac OS X 3.2.0, when saving as .png Krita freeze and stays in a mode as it is still saving the file (all menu items grayed out), only solution is to Force Quit Krita, and .png file is never saved. A workaround though is to just check and then uncheck any option in the .png save dialog, and then it does work normally. If I just press Save in the .png option dialog, it freezes. I could reproduce it multiple times as JPEG, never as PNG (strangely !) but this bug is much less frequent than the one when you effectively try to save the file (i'd say it occurs maybe 1 time on 15 !), so maybe it can happen for PNG too... I also tried to launch Krita from the terminal to see the logs but nothing showed when the bug occured. Hi, Yes, the log from the system doesn't appear when Krita freezes but after it freezes and you try to close it (and on top of that not every time). So maybe the log is not totally pertinent because it happens when you try to quit an application that is already frozen. I still believe the problem comes either from a compilation flag or a third party library used by Krita because I can't reproduce the bug when I compile Krita myself on my computer. however, on the same computer, the downloaded version of Krita freezes when exporting... https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=369014 --- Comment #18 from Ryokun --- Hello, I've been trying to compile Krita for 2 days now and after a lot of Terminal windows / dependancy installations / errors (Homebrew saved my life), I've finally been able to get an executable that works, doesn't crash at startup AND can be debugged in xCode with breakpoints (I'm an Objective-C developer so it makes much more sense to me than QT Creator). Unfortunately (for me), after all this work, when I tried to replicate the export bug... well... it didn't seem to bug anymore :) Maybe the redesigning of the export window you were talking about earlier got rid of the problem... I even tried by launching the version I compiled without debugging (directly from the Finder) in case the debugger would slow down the threads and wouldn't trigger the bug, but all worked just fine (I tried at least 15 times in a row). Just for fun after that I tried again the current release (3.1) and I had the problem almost instantly when I saved a file as PNG. So it seems that this bug has been corrected. But I will stress out that my compilation was not really orthodox: I had to compile Krita a second time in another folder exclusively with the Terminal. After the commands 'make' and 'make install', I did copy the 'etc', 'lib' and 'share' folders in the parent folder of my xCode compilation. Otherwise Krita wouldn't find the plugins and would reach a QFatal() at startup. Now it works great but I noticed that the structure is different in the packaged version (folder Frameworks, Resources/plugins, ...). I tried to copy the folders in the package of the current release (3.1), but it would crash at startup. So all in all, I think this bug might be corrected, but I really think it should be confirmed with a packaged version (sorry, I hadn't be able to do that, I still got errors for this one). Sorry for the long message (and all that to say that the bug appears to be corrected ;)). I explain myself: I currently own 3 macs really different the one from the other. An iMac 2009 Core2 Duo on Mac OS 10.11, a MacBook Air 2013 (2 cores) on Mac OS 10.12 and an iMac 2015 5K (retina) Core-i5 (4 cores) on Mac OS 10.12. I made a test just now and here are the results: - iMac 2015 (Mac os 10.12): freeze 2 times on 3 - MacBook Air (Mac os 10.12): No freezes ! Doesn't matter how many times I try, it doesn't hang at all. - iMac 2009 (Mac OS 10.11): freeze 1 time on 5 I don't get a bug report each time but I had one just now on the 2009 iMac and it was exactly the same I posted yesterday (that one was from the iMac 2015). I'm myself a developer (though I don't know anything about QT) but when I look at the stacktrace it shows that it's calling an Import/export method that seems to destroy an object (widget here, so I suppose that's an UI element) that has already been freed. So my educated guess would be that another thread is destroying the object BEFORE it and so the main thread can't destroy it when asked. The computers that doesn't show this behavior surely destroy the object in the main thread before the background thread is able to do it (why doesn't the background thread crash Krita ? Maybe there's a check in it to destroy the object only if it isn't NULL or maybe the program doesn't catch this type of bug when on a background thread, I can't be sure without debugging in detail). This type of behavior is really typical of a thread problem so my money's on it. But I don't want to assume too many things too because I never seen 1 line of code from Krita. I really would like to help but my hands are tied for the next 3 to 5 days so I won't be any help before that. After that, if you're ok with it, I'll gladly take a look at the code (even if, again, I don't know anything at QT. I somewhat can manage C++ so it shouldn't be too problematic...). Randomly, I'd say 2 times on 3, when I save or export the opened document as JPEG or PNG, Krita freezes (when you open the file menu then you can see that all menus are grayed except "Open a recent document ->"). Just for fun I tried earlier the following : I opened Krita, made a new document of 1800 x 1400, drawn a little on it with the brush, and then saved it as PNG (quality 9, but I tried other settings and it doesn't change anything) on the desktop with the name "test" : the bug appeared (need to CMD+Esc to close Krita). I have noticed that disabling the autosave 'backup file' option eliminates the issue.
