I've checked on 4.0 alpha and it seems to work ok except smoothing issue which
I was able to pinpoint and reported separately here

I observed, that after loading a file all images transformed by mask are not
smoothed nicely. They get proper smoothing after turning layer off and on, but
as you can see sometimes weird things happen. Also transforming seems to be
really slow, I've tried to reduce resolution of transformed images and it
helped a little. Currently I can't reproduce hanging.

Hi, Alex!

I tried you file and it seems to work fine here on both Windows and Linux.
Could you please try to update to 3.1.3rc1 and check if the bug is still
actual? I fixed quite a few transform mask bugs recently so it might have
already gone.
