[kwin] [Bug 460594] Plasma crash happening since 5.26.0 update

2022-11-01 Thread hockeymikey
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460594

I have been having this issue pop up about daily now locking up my system and
needing to restart it. Everything is frozen besides existing open windows.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=460594#c9
Highlights what I am seeing in logs perfectly. It seems is freezes exactly when
I get a notification (sometimes, it's very rare and odd when I do).
I'm using an Omen 15 with a 4800H and a 2060 Nvidia GPU if that helps.
I am running Arch and am completely updated on that end. I do have Firefox open
(as well as Waterfox classic) when it happens, but I'm not able to narrow any
down since I'm usually pretty busy multitasking. It does not happen when
switching tasks, I can just step away from my computer and come back to plasma
frozen. It will be frozen on the time and second of the following logs exactly
like in comment 9 that I linked.

The screen just froze on me again a few minutes ago, this time running the
5.15.75 kernel. Again, switching to a TTY and killing kwin_x11 made the session
usuable again. At the time of the freeze, I was using Firefox as usual, and the
only logs I got were the same XCB errors as in comment #10:

The kwin_scripting warnings shown above have also appeared in the journal logs
every few minutes as I continue to use the system.

Quite interestingly, I set a custom global shortcut to kill and restart KWin
(Ctrl+Alt+Shift+K) a few days ago, and that shortcut didn't work at all while
the screen froze.

I'm experiencing similar behavior at least once every day, but I was able to
continue using my session after I switched to a TTY and killed kwin_x11 from
there. Plasmashell and all other apps running on the desktop session,
especially Firefox, continued to work once I returned from the TTY. However,
it's usually triggered when I use the Alt+Tab switcher and notice it being
completely black before freezing completely. This started after I upgraded my
system to Frameworks 5.99 and before upgrading Plasma to 5.26. Since I updated
the kernel at the same time as Frameworks, I'll have to test my system with the
5.15 LTS kernel to see if it's also reproducible there.

Operating System: Manjaro Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.2 (and also on 5.25.5)
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.99.0
Qt Version: 5.15.6
Kernel Version: 6.0.5-1-MANJARO (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-Core Processor
Memory: 31.3 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 570 Series
Window Decoration: Klassy (I also get the random freezes with the default
Breeze theme)
Task Switcher: Thumbnail Grid
Mesa Version: 22.2.1
Firefox Version: 106.0.2 (also occurred on 105.0.3)

since) so here are the logs for the prior 5 minutes. Hopefully this is enough.

Thanks!

I got another freeze, had to restart my computer again because I couldn't do
anything, but it froze as soon as I launched it and I managed to run the
command. It kinda looks like there's no error in these logs, I'll try again if
I get another freeze to see if it changes

I'm not sure which one it is (it's either freezing indefinitely, or crashing).
When running coredumpctl, the last line is from before I updated to 5.62.0 and
started having crashes. Should I try another method or does it mean I don't
have logs for this?

If it's crashing we need a backtrace. Please follow
