Hello, as the reporter said, this is not resolved as fixed.
I'd really like them too.
For me, they are so handy to setup to the left side of the screen, to set an
icon and add a row of apps I use most in a bunch of shelves (per categories).
Why the shelves were dropped?
Maybe the closest thing are the quick launchers, but they don't spare us of
labels when the widget is attached to a panel, and also have no display
flexibility as they start to arrange the items one under another with labels to
the right in the expandable popup area.
