[plasmashell] [Bug 442932] New: Everything but the all applications section in kickoff will use grid view when that option is turned on.

2021-09-25 Thread Dashon
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442932

Bug ID: 442932
Summary: Everything but the all applications section in kickoff
will use grid view when that option is turned on.
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: git-master
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff)
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: dashonww...@pm.me
CC: mikel5...@gmail.com, plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
I was using kdeneon unstable in a virtual machine. I like to fire it up every
other day to test things and I noticed that there was an option in kickoff to
use grid view essentially everywhere. However, the all applications section
seems to be the only one that is different. I didn't know whether this was
intentional or not. Hence, this bug report.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Change "Show other applications" to the "in a Grid" setting.
2. Hover over every section one by one.

OBSERVED RESULT
Every section but "All applications" has grid view.

EXPECTED RESULT
All sections including "All applications" are shown in a grid view.

Operating System: KDE neon Unstable Edition
KDE Plasma Version: 5.23.80
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.87.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Kernel Version: 5.11.0-36-generic (64-bit)

Kate per-filetype font settings

> am not able to choose the font in any new custom-made schemas I create
When color schemas were ported to color schemes, the ability to specifiy the
font was removed. From
https://kate-editor.org/post/2020/2020-09-06-kate-color-themes/:

"The UI is changed to call this “Color Theme” instead of “Schema”, the font
choosing is decoupled from this now in the settings dialog. Color themes can
only alter the coloring and text attributes like bold/italic/underline/…, but
not switch the font itself."

That said, you can still write here your use case(s) (I think the more
specific, the better) so that others can offer alternative ways to accomplish
the same goal now that the feature is removed, or if there is no other way then
the maintainers might be convinced to reinstate it (provided that there will be
people interested in re-implementing).

> With the last update of Kate, I lost my custom-made schemas
With the issue of fonts addressed above,
https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/syntax-highlighting/-/blob/master/utils/kateschema_to_theme_converter.py
provides a way to convert your custom schemas to the corresponding color themes
(I remember reading (but couldn't find) a blog post of how to use it, but
hopefully the script Usage included in the script will be enough for now).

> What I see now is a global font state, which sets the font on every document.
It's a little bit hidden, but you can specify the font/font-size (among many
other things) using the variables in filetypes (Settings > Open/Save > Modes &
filetypes), see the attached screenshot

My use case is that I use Kate instead of word processor applications (Writer,
Word, etc).

I believe that I can live now with filetype-specific font selection, which is
still better than nothing at all. But I need to open another 2 bugs so that the
UI/UX is enhanced, and that the font should change when changing the filetype
(currently it doesn't, and does only on opening files with that filetype)

Thanks Jan!

It is extremely hard to know that that "variables" can change rendering
features like font family and size due to the place it is put.
The UI/UX can be enhanced in a way that the variables are (for example) a
listbox like shortcuts dialog.
Plus adding it to the documentation.
And perhaps having some help in the color schemas window for people to know how
to change font.

The bug is fixed, but the fix do no trigger a reindex of the contact. So you

"At animation curves, once you have a channel exist, (like Opacity), it can
never be removed. There isn't a button to remove this unnecessary empty channel
(which doesn't contain tweening points)."

I don't think that interferes with your ability to use the animation
facilities?

"It is also nice thing to have multiple points be selected by highlighting the
first point, pressing shift, and highlighting the end, ..."

The use of Ctrl+click and Shift+click doesn't match their 'usual' use for
selecting individual additional items and a range of items, (you can't select a
range of items).
Also, if you use Shift+click to select more that one item, the use of
Ctrl+click to then deselect an item is disrupted and it deselects all other
selected items.
This is confusing.

The annoying dialog

SUMMARY
A few versions back, Korganizer introduced the "Do you really want to cancel?"
dialog.
This dialog is supposed to be shown ONLY when you had unsaved/unapplied
modification to the opened event or task, however it's ALWAYS displayed even
when you just opened a task/event to take a quick look at it, without changing
anything.
This is _really_ annoying.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In the agenda view, double click on any existing event or tasks
2. The event or task window is shown
3. Do not change anything, then click cancel or hit 'Escape'

OBSERVED RESULT
A modal dialog showing the string "Do you really want to cancel?" is shown.

EXPECTED RESULT
No dialog should be shown, and the event/task window should be closed
immediately.

SUMMARY
Kate does not save current session state, e.g. overwrite already saved session,
as menu Sessions/Save Session suggests.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open several files
2. Save session
3. Open session manager, remember file count.
4. Close some files
5. Save session
6. Check session manager, file count still as #3

OBSERVED RESULT
Session state not updated in Kate, but session file is overwritten. On Kate
quit the old state is automatically saved which overwrittes the previously
saved state with an older state.

EXPECTED RESULT
Session state including files should be overwritten on disk and in memory.

Confirmed with kate/ktexteditor built from master.

Additionally, unset variables are not reset to default. For example, if you add
`background-color #ff;` to the variable line of a custom filetype, switch
to that filetype, then switch back to the previous filetype, the background
color will still stay red. This bug should probably be in a different bug
report, but I'm mentioning it here because it might be related. Will update
after I investigate a bit more.

[plasmashell] [Bug 442848] plasmashell is USING excruciating amount of memory.

2021-09-25 Thread artemis37
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442848

Thanks for the lightening reply. I really appreciate it !
In some thread online, I read that clearing the cache resolved some similar
problem so I did do that and after a reboot the exaggerated memory usage
decreased to around 7%. Also I changed the compositor settings from openGL 3.1
to openGL 2.0 , Is around 7% alright for plasmashell?

1.Sorry for the useless screenshot, I must have been sleepy when i took it.
When I hovered the mouse pointer over the taskbar so as for taskbar preview,
the ram usage used to increase. More than one tab of dolphin file explorer was
enough to spike the usage by 5~6 percent. It all happened cumulatively. As I
mentioned the graph flattened nearly around 22%.

2.When the system booted, the process plasma shell consumed nearly around 3%
and with it kept on increasing until the 22-23% maxima.

3.Yes the notifications did sway the memory but so did everything following the
few minutes of booting of system. It used to become so snappy that the computer
was barely usable.

Options like flatpack and snap are solutions in search of a problem in my mind,
so I'd rather stay away.
Anyway. I disabled movit and has not seen the problem since. Too bad to not get
GPU acceleration, but it's better to not get random crashes.

Thanks!

Here's what I've learnt today (using KF 5.85, Plasma 5.22.4)
1. Not reproducible on Plasma-Wayland.
2. Not reproducible if change window manager from kwin_x11 to fluxbox.

We could hack-fix it in KF5Notifications by calling
KWindowSystem::forceActiveWindow() - a patch I've created actually solves the
problem. However because it's not reproducible on Fluxbox, I believe it should
be fixed in kwin_x11.

Trigger pane, action pane and result of typing a custom shortcut

SUMMARY

Shortcuts with Alt- as the trigger fail to output the first instance of

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. System Settings -> Shortcuts -> Custom Shortcuts
2. Create a shortcut triggered by Alt- and include multiple copies of
 in the Action.
3. Click the Apply button.
4. Go to a program that accepts keyboard input, such as vim, and type
Alt-.

OBSERVED RESULT

The keys in the shortcut's action are displayed EXCEPT for the first instance

EXPECTED RESULT

All the keys in the shortcut's action are displayed.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The workaround is to add an extra as needed to the action keys. For
example, I have an Alt-y shortcut for my e-mail address for which the action
WAS 'd:a:v:i:d:l:e:v:n:e:r:Shift+2:y:a:h:o:o:.:c:o:m'. When I typed Alt-y,
'davidlev...@ahoo.com' was output. I changed the action to
'd:a:v:i:d:l:e:v:n:e:r:Shift+2:y:y:a:h:o:o:.:c:o:m' and now when I type Alt-y,
I get 'davidlev...@yahoo.com'.

[kdenlive] [Bug 442631] motion tracker: re-analysis after reset does nothing

2021-09-25 Thread Pierre Nerzic
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442631

After some experiments, I must add some informations to my report. First, it
does not happen with every footage. I am not sure, but it may be related to the
duration of the sequence. With a less than 7 seconds clip, the problem does not
happen, but appears with a 10 seconds clip: only the first run of the Motion
Tracker effect is successful, and after a Reset, next analysis do nothing and
terminate much quicker.
I would like to get some detailed log inside Kdenlive, to be more helpful.

[systemsettings] [Bug 442942] New: Keyboard layout per application doesn't persist after reboot

Not sure if this is really a bug or a feature hehe. I have two keyboard
layouts, the main one and a secondary which I use on specific apps like
Konsole.

Somehow my choices only persist during the session and are lost every time I
boot, so I have to manually switch layout for the first time I open those apps.

On the settings I have keyboard layout policy set to 'application', which works
with the mentioned caveat.

One solution I've tried is creating a KWin rule for the applications I want to
have a different layout, but there are no rules for that, only things mainly
related to the window (focus, opacity, placement ...).

This was fixed (I hope) in version 5.18.0 (21.08.0) by
https://invent.kde.org/pim/incidenceeditor/-/merge_requests/18 -- items were
always treated as having unsaved changes if they had tags.

For a quick test, create a new event and don't set any field except for the
summary. Close it, reopen it, and see if you get the annoying dialog.

SUMMARY
Kate recently introduced two buttons above the scroll bar ("Quick Open" and
something for splitting views). These buttons cannot be removed from the
settings like the other things in Kate.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Launch Kate, see that there's these two additions above the scroll bar.
2. Click 'Settings' and try to untick something to remove those buttons.

OBSERVED RESULT
Not possible to remove those buttons.

[okular] [Bug 442863] Bookmark icon overlaid on top of thumbnails needs visual polish

2021-09-25 Thread Albert Astals Cid
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442863

--- Comment #7 from Albert Astals Cid ---
It looked much better when bookmark was a solid yellow star, then it was not a
star anymore, and thus it was less noticeable, the problem of Okular not being
in control of the icons used in the app, it can't always make it look nice for
all styles and icon set variations.

David is right though, the x positioning of the icon on your screenshot looks
wrong.

I disagree with showing this information in the main view, once you start doing
that you'll get reports of "shows the pdf wrong, some artifact in this
location".

I have experienced a similar behavior.

After a display mode resolution change, and a reboot, my Activity Manager
contained no activities. It was still as long as it would have been if the
activities had been visible, which suggested they were still there somewhere.

I have NO virtual desktops configured.

I rely on having different desktop icons on each activity (each activity uses a
different custom folder).

Running Plasma on Wayland
Operating System: openSUSE Leap 15.2

OS Type: 64-bit
Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-7820HQ CPU @ 2.90GHz

I am using both custom locations and the desktop in my activities.

I have observed a similar behavior with Plasma on X11.

I have a dozen activities at least. Each one has a different custom folder.

When I change activity, the desktop becomes empty.

If I `touch` something in the directory associated with that activity, the
desktop will appear.

It's as if there is a "refresh desktop" function not being called when the
activity changes.

Hello, Uwe,

In the left panel I had /usr/bin, in the right panel I had /usr/sbin, and "Edit
> Compare Folders" selected several files in both panels.

Does the same happen to you?

2021-09-25 Thread Daniel P Pflager
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=435743

In the Configure Desktop dialog (right-click on the empty Desktop, then select
Configure Desktop), the (Custom location) radio button shows as being still
selected and the Custom location textbox is set to the correct filesystem
location.

If I now change the radio button selection to Desktop folder or to Places panel
item, the icons for that selection do appear on the desktop.

Having switched to one of the radio buttons above, if I then re-select the
(Custom location) radio button, I will see the desktop icons for the Custom
location again.

Thereafter, during the same session, they seem to "stick".

[okular] [Bug 442863] Bookmark icon overlaid on top of thumbnails needs visual polish

2021-09-25 Thread Nate Graham
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442863

I agree, it should probably stay on the thumbnail view. The positioning does
look like a hidpi positioning bug.

As for the icon chosen, we'll need to hardcode something in the app or pick an
icon from the icon theme that is designed for this purpose--those would be
emblems. Unfortunately there is no bookmark emblem in the Breeze theme, and I
assume not in other themes either. I can create one and make Okular use it, and
then hopefully other themes will fall back to Breeze and get the Breeze icon.

[systemsettings] [Bug 442948] New: Keyboard layout priority is ignored

2021-09-25 Thread Sergio
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=442948

Bug ID: 442948
Summary: Keyboard layout priority is ignored
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.22.4
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_keyboard
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: sergio.calleg...@gmail.com
CC: butir...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

When using multiple keyboard layouts, it is possible to "move up" or "move
down" them, establishing a priority. Unfortunately at plasma startup this
priority is ignored.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure an Italian and an English (US) layout
2. Set the English layout on top
3. Start plasma

OBSERVED RESULT

Plasma starts with the Italian layout. There is no way to make plasma start
with the English US layout

EXPECTED RESULT

Plasma should start with whatever layout has priority. There should be a way to
have the system start with the English US layout even if an Italian layout is
also configured.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Manjaro Linux KDE edition
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.85.0
Qt Version: 5.12.2

Working with X11

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The issue does not appear to be present in Kubuntu 20.04. However the latter
uses a much older software stack: Plamsa 5.18.7, framework 5.68. There is a
newer Qt though (5.12.8).

Another thing that may be worth mentioning is that Manjaro introduces its own
keyboard setup module that may have some interference with the KDE one.

Hence, we may be facing either a regression or a manjaro specific bug.
