Could you confirm when you give the permission, which is correct: your Software
Manager doesn't open, really nothing happens, or your Software Manager opens
and says that it can't find the app?

[Discover] [Bug 466587] New: Wrong German translation "Aktualisierung ausgewählt"

2023-02-28 Thread Philipp Kiemle
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466587

Bug ID: 466587
   Summary: Wrong German translation "Aktualisierung ausgewählt"
Classification: Applications
   Product: Discover
   Version: 5.26.5
  Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: discover
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: philipp.kie...@gmail.com
CC: aleix...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When updating only a part of the available updates, the button in the top right
corner (to start the update process) displays the wrong string.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have multiple updates available
2. Deselect one of the updates

OBSERVED RESULT
Above mentioned string changes to "Aktualisierung ausgewählt", which *does
indeed* translate to "Update selected" (I guess this is the original string),
but in this case is a false friend. It should be "Ausgewählte aktualisiseren"
or similar in my opinion.

[plasmashell] [Bug 466588] New: wayland: autohide does not work with vertical taskmanager

2023-02-28 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466588

Bug ID: 466588
   Summary: wayland: autohide does not work with vertical
taskmanager
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.27.1
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: slartibar...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

I have a two monitor setup like this

```
+---++---+
|   ||
+---+|
| <--|
++
```

Left side is a laptop 2K screen, right side is a DP 4K monitor.

On the laptop bottom, i have a 'taskbar' with application launcher, icons only
taskmanager, system-tray and on the bottom of the 4K monitor, there is also a
panel with icons-only taskmanager (this is not the whole screen witdth, just
1/6th of the width (see 'vvv' below to indicate the current - horizontal
position). This panel has autohide activated and is working ok.
```
|
|
+-+
```

Now, i tried putting this small panel vertically, just so it's attached to the
lower left corner of the 4K monitor (see '<--' in above picture where i want to
put it)
This also works ok, but the auto-hide feature does not - the panel is always
visible

I know, that's a strange setup, but still very handy, because this lower left
area of the 4K monitor is like an 'infinite target area' (Fitt's law) that's
very easy to reach with the mouse.

Would be nice if autohide would work here as well

2023-02-28 Thread nyanpasu64

--- Comment #7 from nyanpasu64  ---
I noticed that restarting kwin_x11 set the title bar DPI from override 120 to
default 96, and running `killall kded5` caused my override DPI to apply again.

I think that every time I restart plasma-kded.service, there's a random chance
that 120 DPI applies (instantly to Firefox and Armcord), Armcord's font size
grows and shrinks quickly, or nothing at all happens (remains at 96 DPI). Is
there a race condition somewhere in kded5's code?

Since very recently (not sure when exactly though) I have observed that the
plasmashell process is consuming more and more memory at a frightening pace
(e.g. usage grows to 22GB in the space of 3 minutes). Killing it doesn't always
help (see video below).

Well, that's really unexpected. On fedora, removing the kde-gtk-config package
solves the problem of native kde applications. So it is indeed possible that

SUMMARY
***
I am trying to have some custom file associations, but every time the system is
restarted, the custom settings are gone.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a "Dosbox-x conf" entry under "Applcations > File Associations >
Application

Currently kde-gtk-config sets the xft/DPI XSetting which is read both by GTK

applications

Harald Sitter  changed:

--- Comment #3 from Harald Sitter  ---
Huh. This is a bit complicated.

So tablet mode (or as we call it in the GUI: touch mode) is ultimately
controlled by kwin and currently kirigami talks directly to kwin. The easy fix
is to have relevant apps talk-name=org.kde.KWin but that is a bit questionable
from a security POV what with kwin being the wayland compositor.

The reasonable, albeit more invasive, fix is to restructure how things work.
The settings portal should talk to Kwin and abstract the tabletmode setting.
Kirigami should then talk to the portal rather than kwin. Flatpak apps equally
talk to the portal. IOW: everything needs to talk to the portal and the portal
talks to kwin.

Maybe every 20th time, sometimes even more frequently (very random), when
opening popups of various applications, they visually flicker disturbingly,
this happened for me in jetbrains rider, vscode and unity3d so far. In IDEs
it's especially disturbing as auto completion opens and closes popups at a high
rate, making this glitch occur quite a lot more frequently.
While recording it i noticed that when it glitches it actually just shows the
top left of my desktop.

Enabled related desktop effects are "Fading Popups Kinetic" (installed) and
background contrast and , but this also happens without any of them enabled,
it's just visible for like a single frame instead of a few in that case.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. open popups in one of the mentioned applications repeatedly
2. Notice it sometimes rendering the desktop into the window content for a
short period
3. acknowledge it as an issue

OBSERVED RESULT
(At random times) flickering popups, rendering the desktop as content briefly
before showing their actual content

EXPECTED RESULT
Smooth, non-glitchy popups, rendering their own content or a default color or
what's actually behind their rectangle from the start

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 22.10
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.98.0
Qt Version: 5.15.6

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I'm not sure if kwin or compositing is the correct category for this issue, as
i don't have the technical knowledge about what makes up my desktop internally;
it might be related to something completely different, it just seemed correct
to me.

Well, not fixed at all. For example switching from TV (1366x768) to Monitor
(1920x1200). "KDE" only uses a rectangle al top-left of the screen of 1366x768
and without anything (no panels). Also switching from TV to Monitor, there are
screen tearing on videos for example.

All of these issues are fixed if I touch + and select current
config: no tearing, normal desktop with panel.

Not sure what's going on... Is the "xft/DPI XSetting" the variable seen by
`xrdb -query -all`? Observations:

- `xrdb -query -all|grep Xft|sort` shows `Xft.dpi:120` even with
windows erroneously at 96dpi.
- Running xsettingsd (not sure what it does) fixes DPI, even after Ctrl-C.
Running again reverts to 96 DPI, but Ctrl-C reapplies font DPI.

So, I again have issues with cursor stutter and overall noticeable performance
issues.

I opened nvtop and now I see that kwin consumes almost half of my VRAM (1.5 out
of 4 GiB) and GPU load up to 40%.
Load is caused by me playing youtube video though, once I stopped playback it
goes back to normal (not performance issues though). Although it still doesn't
seem right that despite of hardware decoding in firefox, kwin consumes 30 to
40% of GPU time.

2023-02-28 Thread Robin Bankhead

Further data point: I just added a systemmonitor plasmoid to my panel to show
CPU usage, and interestingly after first opening my vnc session it actually did
not show any heavy activity.

It started maxing one core, however, as soon as I opened Yakuake (with a
keyboard shortcut, natch).

This sort of makes a lot more sense, even if it doesn't present a full
diagnosis: I'm actually giving kglobalaccel itself some input that "upsets" it.

feature request for (adding an option in the settings for) adding highlighting
to the right click context menu when "text selection" is selected.
UI-wise this would be a great improvement, if instead of having to select a
highlighting tool in the menu, users could also just use the text-selection
tool for everything in combination with the right-click context menu to enable
various actions for the selected bit of text (eg various highlighting options,
add comments, etc).

I'd +1 reverting delaying switching over until 6.* which is a major new version
and "breaking" changes are less of an issue, plus it will get frequent feature
updates, which will make changes easier. Thanks a lot for looking into this :)

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466608

Bug ID: 466608
   Summary: Transparency bug when using Aurorae window decorations
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.27.2
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: aurorae
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org

SUMMARY
***
NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug
symbols.
See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install and select (for example) "Dexy Blur Dark Color Aurorae" window
decoration from inside KDE Window Decorations panel.
2. Put the window over some background with text or patterns to see the bug
clearly.

OBSERVED RESULT

The window border flickers back and forth between being transparent and not
being transparent. It flickers about once every second if you dont move the
mouse pointer, and many times per second if you move the mouse pointer. Also
try switching between several windows and putting different ones at the top of
the stack to hopefully see the bug.

EXPECTED RESULT

The window border should be permanently transparent and not flicker back and
forth.

However, now that I have both open I can see that the information in the left

the sidebar on the right does not and keeps showing the information of the
image on the right only, even when I click on the image on the left.

SUMMARY
***
NOTE: If you are reporting a crash, please try to attach a backtrace with debug
symbols.
See
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***
When clicking on the task tray update icon, it opens discover and an error pops
up instead of the updates pane. Error proclaims "user agent unset" with an
option to copy the error to the clipboard. Eventually, the error goes away, and
discover loads as normal.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Click on "updates available" icon in System Tray
2. Error pops up. While error is up, title bar changes to "Not Responding"
3. Eventually, the error goes away and the update pane in Discover opens
normally.

OBSERVED RESULT
Just seems to be an error. Updates work as normal once the error dialogue goes
away.

EXPECTED RESULT
Discover should open to update pane without error.

Hi,

For pt_BR docs the best/fast thing to do is just remove the docbooks with
deprecated entities. This is because they are so old that no one finished
translating the updated docbook in ~8 years.

Fixed in:

Will probably close this report later today if the storage settings menu issue
is solved in today's windows build.

Most of the issues that were mentioned here have been solved. For any
remaining issues or feature requests, please open separate bugs for each one of
them. It's quite hard to track a dozen of things in one report.

That's correct, the solver does not try to move cards down as it's moving such
kings up itself.

There is another bug asking for more obvious indication that a game became
unsolvable. Of course the solver being imperfect makes the solver indication
just that: an indication, but I accept the wish
