Unfortunately this is a fundamental flaw in QtQuick itself that can only be
solved by the Qt people. They're aware of it but as you can see, it's not fixed
yet. Telegram isn't affected because it's not actually a QtQuick app; it's
using custom QtWidgets stuff.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485204

--- Comment #5 from ConfuSomu  ---
> Does it also happen in a session with the original kwin_wayland running?

This does not happen in a session with the original kwin_wayland running, such
as after logging out and then logging back in. At this stage, the inhibition
warning is displayed in the battery applet.

> And can you say when the applet stops displaying the warning? It is
> completely gone or does it only disappear e.g. after opening the laptop lid?

I tried reproducing the bug in a new session, but haven't been able to (no
packages or configurations were updated in the meantime). I don't remember when
the warning originally disappeared.

In a new session, after replacing kwin_wayland, the warning was still
displayed, even if I suspended the laptop and woke it back up, and opened or
closed the lid after unlocking.

Interestingly, when unplugging my laptop from the external display/DisplayPort,
the applet still displayed the same inhibition warning. When closing the lid,
it didn't suspend. This does not happen with the original kwin_wayland. I can
reproduce this bug in new sessions (after a log out and log in).

No presentation mode or sleep inhibition is manually activated through the
Plasma applets.

Thank you!

I can hover over the app icon in overview and see the option to close it, but I
can’t seem to interact with it any other way.

> As it turned out it was a problem with my known_hosts file: key type

In that case you were lucky, as my `known_hosts` file only has `ssh-ed25519`
entries, and I still get this error:

```
An ssh-ed25519 host key for this server was not found, but another type of key
exists.
An attacker might change the default server key to confuse your client into
thinking the key does not exist.
Please contact your system administrator.
```

Annoyingly `sftp` itself connects just fine using the same URI (with the
required additional slash after the hostname).

(And I'm feeling stupid; I moved the ed25519 files out of the ~/.ssh directory
on both hosts but the corresponding entry keeps getting added right back to my
known_hosts file.)

Git commit 8608d7034199e9d19f3af3837d4b2f6baa8c8f4c by Nate Graham.
Committed on 12/04/2024 at 19:50.
Pushed by ngraham into branch 'master'.

applets/taskmanager: show text more often for traditional Task Manager

The minimum area for text was using a PlasmaCore unit that got ported to
Kirigami.Units.iconSizes.sizeForLabels for Plasma 6. This has different
semantics, resulting in the minimum size to show text increasing hugely.
As a result many people stopped seeing text in their task managers with
medium-thickness vertical panels crowded horizontal panels.

The more semantically correct iunit to port to is GridUnit. It's not
perfect though since it's the font height, not width. But it's the best
we've got.

In my testing, 1.5 of them works perfectly for both vertical and
horizontal panels to only show text when there's at least one character
that won't be elided. This isn't a lot of text, but pepole use a
traditional Task Manager because they want to see text, so it at least
better matches their expectation than the status quo.

Yes, otherwise I wouldn't be doing this report. Also, some monitors already

Git commit 36cda2975a1e1d7771c7ea7aae73b0ebd089d5bc by Nate Graham.
Committed on 12/04/2024 at 20:12.
Pushed by ngraham into branch 'Plasma/6.0'.

applets/taskmanager: show text more often for traditional Task Manager

FIXED-IN: 6.0.4

Git commit e858708dc74269007d1eb12eb1bdae81f091e1c5 by Noah Davis.
Committed on 12/04/2024 at 20:36.
Pushed by ndavis into branch 'master'.

Disable video mode when a new rectangle capture screenshot is started

This was a missing line of code. Without this, doing a rectangle screenshot
capture after a video capture causes the fullscreen windows to visually freeze
while also being impossible to interact with.

It would be nice if someday we replaced setVideoMode with something that
requires less manual management. Manual state management is error prone because
it's easy to forget to do it properly.

I'm not able to reproduce this with my laptop and an external HP screen
arranged to the left of the primary screen. I do have an Intel GPU though.

Affected people, are you able to reproduce the issue in a new clean user
account, by doing *exactly* the following:
1. Plug in screen
2. Ignore screen chooser OSD
3. Right-click on desktop > Configure Displays…
4. Move newly-connected screen to the left of the primary screen and click
apply

If not, please try by replacing steps 2-5 with "click on 'extend to left' in
the screen chooser OSD"

Either way, we need to know if it reproduces at all in a new clean user
account. Thanks all!

[KScreen] [Bug 485458] New: Display cofiguration resets after waking up laptop from suspend

2024-04-12 Thread ChronosXYZ
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485458

Bug ID: 485458
   Summary: Display cofiguration resets after waking up laptop
from suspend
Classification: Plasma
   Product: KScreen
   Version: 6.0.3
  Platform: openSUSE
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: common
  Assignee: kscreen-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: chronosxyz...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I have a problem where my display configuration resets after I wake up my
laptop from the sleep. I have setup of laptop with external screen. My laptop
has Optimus configuration (Intel/Nvidia). I use package called 'suse-prime'
which helps to set Nvidia as my primary GPU and turn off Intel GPU completely.
I use X11. Display configuration resets in a way where a) my screens overlay
each other (so I have to move one display to the left of another in settings
again and again); b) i have one working (external) screen with no panels on it
and laptop screen is turned off (there is no 'primary' checkbox in settings
anymore and laptop screen is turned off in settings as well). This happens
constantly after suspend and I am setting right configuration again and again.
This began to appear after I upgraded to Plasma 6.
Also I've turned off Kwin compositor and use picom for it because of lags and
critical bugs which still are not fixed unfortunately. This bug still
reproduces in default Kwin configuration, so I don't think it is somehow
related to picom.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Plug in external screen to the laptop
2. Close the lid
3. Wait till laptop will go to the sleep
4. Open the lid

OBSERVED RESULT

Display configuration resets.

EXPECTED RESULT

Display configuration should stay the same.

It's not possible to rotate wallpapers in this view. Which action are you
hoping to apply to all of them if you could select multiple items? We are
talking about the Plasma wallpaper chooser grid, right?

When this happens, is Firefox running in native Wayland mode or XWayland mode?

The repositories have packages for fcitx5-frontend-qt6, and the website also
mentions the qt6 support, so i'm not sure about that. But even if it shouldn't
be expected to work, it also shouldn't be expected to stop the whole system
from loading.

If this isn't a bug, i think the fact that the recommended cjk ime for plasma
no longer works in plasma should be some kind of an issue. If i want to type
in chinese, what should i use? The plasma ibus integration is terrible (for
example it looks out of place, there is no settings integration).

Would like to add my +1 to this request. I was trying out this feature, and
noticed that some test data I was playing around with was lost. Took a look and
saw the behavior Tiernan described- the files do get successfully stashed on
the filesystem, and they get loaded when the session is restored. But, if for
any reason, Kate exits in an unexpected manner (eg. killall -9 kate), you lose
all that data.

It'd be nice to have a reliable-enough store of these sorts of "scratch notes"
without having to think about concretely defining where they should live in a
file hierarchy. Was using Notepad++ for this previously on Windows, and am now
looking for a Linux replacement for it.

I get that you should save data that you care about. But if this is something
that can be implemented, I think it would be a great experience improvement for
a sort of stash/stream of notes that are effectively auto-saved in a temporary
location until you're ready to concretely define where you want it saved.

Not sure if related to the actual crash, but that's a Neon bug

[kwin] [Bug 483957] Add the option to Overview effect to turn Add/Remove Virtual Desktop Buttons on or off

2024-04-12 Thread tracyanne

--- Comment #9 from tracyanne  ---
At present the Overview/Grid View works like this...

https://iili.io/Jv0fpcJ.png"; alt="2column2RowsGrid" border="0">

https://iili.io/Jv0fD6g.png"; alt="SingleColumnOverviewconfig"
border="0">
https://iili.io/Jv0fLZP.png"; alt="SingleColumnOverview" border="0">

https://iili.io/Jv0qJup.png"; alt="SingleRowforOvervieconfigw"
border="0">
https://iili.io/Jv0q2tI.png"; alt="SingleRowforOverview" border="0">

My proposal is to simply make the Add/Remove Virtual Desktop optional, as it
currently is for the Desktop Grid on Plasma 5.

https://iili.io/Jv0oe1t.png"; alt="Current Optional Addremove"
border="0">

Of course if removing the Add/Remove buttons is your preference, I would not
argue with that, as it is easy to add and remove Virtual Desktops, by various
other means, including the Virtual Desktops config panel.

[neon] [Bug 485401] After installing fcitx5, plasma will not load

2024-04-12 Thread noa
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485401

--- Comment #5 from noa  ---
I went through installing the packages one by one with --no-install-recommends
and it also now works for me. The issue was the im-config package; if i
install the fcitx5 package and then remove im-config, i can login and
everything looks and works perfectly, even with plasma 6.

I'm pretty clueless at doing this kinds of working out what the problem is
beyond that. I don't know if this is a problem with im-config or kde.
im-config appears to be a debian thing, and also appears not to be much use if
you use the kde settings ui to set the input method.
