[KDE Itinerary] [Bug 454017] Integration of routes (like GPX)

Hello,

There's a case where such thing would be useful even without names displayed if
there's nothing in the GPX trace. I can imagine:

27th of June
- 10h -> 12h Train: City A -> City B,  ->
- Bike (clicking on this shows the map with the GPX trace)
- 15h -> 16h Train: City C -> City D

It is obvious at a glance that the bike is most likely between City B and City
C between 12h and 15h even if those things are not explicit in the bike entry.
It would be still very useful. Hours and location names could be manually
editable too.

The gpx trace could also be integrated in the whole map for the whole trip.

I actually installed KDE Itinary to check if it allowed something like this.
Amazing tool btw.

Using native apps (like latex) in a Flatpak is not allowed by the sandboxed
design of Flatpaks. There are ways around this (see
https://discourse.flathub.org/t/using-native-texlive-with-flatpak-apps/2363)
but we haven't tried yet what works for using TexLive in a LabPlot Flatpak.
Please let us know if you have any experience.

Migrate NFS KIO worker to KIO::WorkerBase

Some necessary changes included

- Making every function that called setError return WorkerResult
- Making getFileHandle return an expected/result-like result to
ensure any errors getting the file handle are passed along to
  the caller
- Update virtual method implementations to return WorkerResult

Due to the vast differences in error reporting between KF5's SlaveBase
and KF6's WorkerBase, some of the error logic might have been altered

doesn’t do as you described here:

This should probably have been implemented as VG_(client_extension) see

Classification: Plasma

  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Clipboard
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: dmatteo...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Clearing clipboard and removing all notification have two different result.
While the first close the clipboard popup, the second does not close the
notification popup. This is inconsistent and either one or the other should
change. I believe that automatically closing is more annoying especially if
using a floating panel, that also disappear on closing the popup or if using a
systemtray where one would like to access other applets after clearing the
clipboard.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Copy something
2. Open clipboard in systemtray
3. Clear clipboard / delete all entry manually.

OBSERVED RESULT
Close popup.

EXPECTED RESULT
Should not close popup.

Video of the problem (it is less pronounced when recording and very difficult
to screenshot)

SUMMARY
When opening any popup with animation (sliding or not), the animation stop when
is not yet complete, up untile it is interacted with. This happens almost
always with System Tray, and sometimes with calendar and rarely on Yakuake
(popup terminal).
This cause the popup to remain cutoff, to be slight or a lot trasparent.

This only happens on Wayland (on x11 it is okay the animation), also I'm on AMD
graphics, on arch with Qt6.7 packages.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a popup

OBSERVED RESULT
The animation does not complete.

EXPECTED RESULT
The animation should complete without needing extra input.

I described how it happens on Linux.

There should be listening on the space bar, not recording. When we create a
track to record audio, it should record only when we click on the recording
circle on this track.

2. if i hover on the middle part and press ESC
  a. the first ESC, bring me with "panel edit mode" open and windows behind
  b. the second ESC: the top bar with "edit mode" option remain but is
under the other windows and the panel has still blue bar and config buttom on
the left to re-enter panel mode
  c. pressing extra ESC, does nothing. To fix i need to switch to another

[kde-cli-tools] [Bug 486193] New: Activity overrides for kde-open

2024-04-27 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486193

Bug ID: 486193
   Summary: Activity overrides for kde-open
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kde-cli-tools
   Version: 6.0.4
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: aleix...@kde.org
  Reporter: gudvinr+...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Sometimes different workflows require different sets of applications that do
the same.
Probably notable example is web browser.
It's so notable that people create workarounds like activity aware firefox
(https://matija.suklje.name/introducing-activity-aware-firefox) to solve this
issue.

Possible use cases where differentiate by activity can help:
- work and personal e-mail, chat, browser apps
- guest workspace where browser and other apps have disabled history
- creation workspace open .STL in blender, production will use 3D printing
software
- dev workspace will open Kate, all other workspaces will use kwrite
- etc

De-facto standard of resolving URIs is xdg-open, which in turn runs kde-open in
case if it detects KDE.
Since KDE is in control of what's being opened when an app requests file
association, it is also possible to handle overrides in centralized way.

Thus, I'd suggest to add per-activity overrides for default apps:
- If user adds override for web browser in activity settings for activity A and
is currently using this activity, kde-open will resolve web browser to value
from this setting
- In any other case, e.g. if activity B has different override or doesn't have
an override at all, kde-open will either default value or corresponding
override

For current users and ones who don't need that nothing will change.

Potential downside is that KIO might have an additional dependency to access
activities, but since you can get current activity using d-bus I don't think
it's a huge dealbreaker.

Thanks for that suggestion... After checking the KDE Neon and openSUSE

bit more. As it turns out, despite thinking I installed the rpm from the repos,
I installed the flatpak version; deleting that one and installing the rpm has
fixed this issue for me. I don't think that solves the underlying issue that
occurs with the flatpak, but my particular issue is resolved.

[kate] [Bug 486194] New: Text scrolling with mouse selection doesn't work on X11

2024-04-27 Thread mozo
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486194

X11
Classification: Applications
   Product: kate
   Version: 24.02.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kwrite
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: smi...@abv.bg
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I'm don't shure how to describe the problem in English but when one selects a
text which is more than one page and push the mouse to the bottom or up, the
text should scroll to the end if the mouse is pushed at bottom and to the
beggining uf the mouse is pushed up. This is working ok on Wayland but not on
X11. It's a dealbreaker if one works a lot with text every day like me.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select text and push the mouse doen to scrol towards the end of text.

OBSERVED RESULT
The text doesn't scroll at all. It stuck on the visible frame of kwrite and
doesn't continue down.

EXPECTED RESULT
The text should scroll at text selection and mouse movement either up or down.

Hi Emmet, Thanks for your response and great to see it's being picked up.

I don't think this is an edge case as it's not happening while the animation is

[kate] [Bug 486195] New: Kate crashes when opening a file with 10002 or more 0xff bytes

2024-04-27 Thread Foxite
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486195

Bug ID: 486195
Summary: Kate crashes when opening a file with 10002 or more
0xff bytes
Classification: Applications
   Product: kate
   Version: 24.02.2
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: application
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: t...@dirkkok.nl
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When opening a file that consists only of 10002 or more 0xFF bytes, Kate either
freezes and rapidly leaks memory and gets OOM-killed (on Arch, 24.02.2) or
crashes (in Flatpak nightly, 24.07.70)

This does not happen on Debian, 22.12.3, where the file is opened normally
(with the message about the file having extremely long lines).

If the file is less than 10002 bytes, it will interpret the file as being
encoded in ISO-8859-1 and the bytes are displayed as 'ÿ' characters.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Produce a file consisting entirely of FF bytes and has a length of at least
10002 bytes (`echo -e -n '\xff' > testfile` and then `cat testfile testfile >
testfile2` a bunch of times until it's big enough)
2. Open the file in Kate
3. Observe memory leak and/or crash

OBSERVED RESULT
Kate crashes either due to exhausting system memory (Arch) or immediately
crashing (Flatpak)

EXPECTED RESULT
Kate should open the file as usual, interpreting the bytes in ISO-8859-1.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Arch:
Linux/KDE Plasma: 6.6.27-1-lts (64-bit)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.0.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.1.0
Qt Version: 6.7.0

Flatpak:
Same kernel as above.
Installed flatpak package is from https://cdn.kde.org/flatpak/kate-nightly/

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
When reproducing this bug on 22.04.2 there doesn't seem to be a stack trace
because the crash eventually happens because of the OOM-killer.

On Flatpak however it crashes immediately and so there is a stack trace. I went
through the effort of getting a useful (I hope) stack trace when running in
Flatpak, here is the output from gdb after reproducing the crash:

(gdb) run --block

[dolphin] [Bug 486196] New: Remember folder panel state when switching between tabs or split windows

2024-04-27 Thread Philipp Maierhöfer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486196

Bug ID: 486196
Summary: Remember folder panel state when switching between
tabs or split windows
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 24.02.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: panels: folders
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: maiphi.pub...@gmx.net
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Dolphin doesn't remember the state of the folder panel per view (tab or split
view).

There are two problems with that:
* Collapsing folders when switching tabs/views essentially foils the advantage
and, in my opinion, the main use case of tabs/split views.
* Performance: the issue is particularly pronounced if one of the locations is
sftp:// over the internet, because every time you switch to the sftp tab/view,
the directory structure is reloaded which often takes several seconds due to
the slow ssh connection.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin in your home directory. If the folder panel is not shown, turn
it on (F7).
2. Expand at least one directory in the folder panel by pressing the ">" left
to the folder name in the folder panel. But do not enter a subdirectory.
3. Open a second tab or split the view. Navigate to a location that has a
different folder panel root than home. The home directory in the first tab and
the root directory in the second tab will do for illustration (but to really
see how annoying this is, open an sftp location over the internet).
4. Switch back to the first tab/view.

OBSERVED RESULT
The folder panel gets reloaded (in case of sftp slowly) and its root correctly
switches back to home. But all expanded folders are collapsed, except the one
that is currently selected.

EXPECTED RESULT
The folder panel should remember its state per tab and split view. Note that
one could use the same state for tabs/views that have the same folder panel
root (e.g. the home directory), but not for the root directory and sftp
locations.

[dolphin] [Bug 486197] New: Drag & drop fails e.g. for newly created files

2024-04-27 Thread Philipp Maierhöfer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486197

Bug ID: 486197
Summary: Drag & drop fails e.g. for newly created files
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 24.02.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: maiphi.pub...@gmx.net
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
In some cases, drag & drop of a file doesn't work. Instead, a selection
rectangle appears when a file is clicked and dragged.

This is 100% reproducible on newly created files in Dolphin. I think that it
occured to me in other sitations as well, but this is the only case I could
reproduce. Tested this on Wayland, but I think X11 is also affected.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin. Right click on the main view to open the context menu. Select
"Create New -> Text File" and press enter to create the file.
2. Left click and hold the new file and move the mouse.

OBSERVED RESULT
Instead of dragging the file, a selection rectangle opens. You have to release
the left button and try again to make it work.

EXPECTED RESULT
The file should be dragged. No selection rectangle should show (btw. why is
this a rectangle in in details view? The horizontal selector from KDE 5 was
more convenient).

Everything was working fine a few days ago. It broke down after the update.

How it works now:

Right−click on the track -> Insert Track −> Audio record track.
When you press the space bar, recording starts immediately (This should not be
the case).

How it should work:

Right−click on the track -> Insert Track −> Audio record track.
A sound recording track is being created. When we press the record key (red
circle on the track) − record and stop recording. On the space bar − listening.

SUMMARY
With Bluetooth system settings, theres no way to add devices using only a
keyboard. So if you have a bluetooth mouse, you must acquire a wired mouse to
do the adding. You can see that e.g. "Alt+a" _should_ trigger the "Add new
device" button, but when actually pressing "Alt+a" nothing happens.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Try to press "Add new device" with keyboard, either with tabbing to
highlight the button, or by pressing "Alt+a"

OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens, no dialog appears, there's no way to click on "Add new device"
without using a mouse.

EXPECTED RESULT
The "Add New Device" dialog should appear.

Using this with two screens. When in overview mode, you can type into the
search bar and it does it simultaneously in both screens. The search results
also show simultaneously in both screens. However you can only scroll through
the results in the screen you are active. It would be better if the scrolling
also happened in both (all) screens at once. Either that or keep all of the
search visuals to one screen at at a time. The inconsistency can be confusing.

Observed behaviour: During the grid effect, when several windows are open in a

Video demo of switching light/dark themes. Display is at 200% scale (Wayland)

It's still happening in the current release versions (on Arch Linux, rolling).
Can reproduce in a new user account too.

KDE Plasma 6.0.4
KDE Frameworks 6.2.0
Qt 6.7.0
Wayland and X11

In addition to dolphin, other apps include:
- Gwenview's Places sidebar (e.g. when icons set to 16x16)
- Open/Save file dialog chooser

I did come across something strange. At first, I thought where the theme is
changed made a difference:
(1) System Settings (Home) → "Breeze Dark"
(2) System Settings → Colors & Themes → Global Theme / Icons → "Breeze Dark"

Turns out if switching themes, the icons may look correct, but hovering over
the program reloads into the wrong (colour) icons. Sometimes it'll be right,
but broken thereafter by restarting the program (like with "Details" view in
Dolphin). Attached is a screen capture of some of the weirdness.

It seems to be the icon theme itself ("Breeze Dark") that has the issue - but
only when display scaling is set above 100% (regardless of screen resolution).
If I get time, I'll see if I can Neon running in a container (distrobox) to
check the current git versions.

with Wayland and Plasma 5 X11 and Wayland and there if the mouse is out of the
Kate/Kwrite borders but the left mouse button is pressed, it continues to drag
the text as it should be and as it's how it is on every other text editor.

Bug ID: 486203
Summary: recent documents doesn't show recently edited
documents
Classification: Applications
   Product: kate
   Version: 24.02.2
  Platform: openSUSE

SUMMARY
Recent Documents doesn't really seem to function properly. For example I
created 2 documents with kate. Closed Kate and rebooted my computer. It
doesn't show the 2 recent documents I saved. It does show documents I opened
earlier, but not the 2 most recent I created and saved with Kate. Maybe its
missing adding those documents to the recent list on save?

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create a new buffer
2. puts something in it and save the file
3. Close kate and reopen

OBSERVED RESULT
Your saved file doesn't show up in the recent list like it should

EXPECTED RESULT
If you save or open a file it should be in the recent list.

when invoking KDE partition Manager ... screen posps up ok but does not
give focus to Authentication Required PolicyKit1 KDE agent ... it hides it ...
you need to move scrre to see its right behind . other than that all is ok.

This started happening in the last couple of months ... I was hoping it would
be fixed by not. I know its not its not the Authentication required
since it does get focus when called by Dolphin.

Hopefully this is a simple setting that will soon be fixed .

The driver says the display is capable of adaptive sync in both cases. The only
way I think this could happen is if the driver first tells KWin there's no vrr
support, but then changes the property later. That's something I can easily fix
in KWin though

KFileItemActions: Add logic to order actions between separators

Commit 337853329c61c9cfe5e369acf65a8eca94e5e7fd has purposedly ordered
actions by their name. However, this breaks separators in service context
menus.

For example:

Actions=progressive;optimize;\_SEPARATOR\_;compress_50;compress_70;compress_75

The separator would end up at the end of the list:

Actions=compress_50;compress_70;compress_75;progressive|optimize;\_SEPARATOR\_

And since the logic check if the separator is the last item to add it:

!actions.last()->isSeparator()

separators basically disappear from service context menus.

The purpose of this commit is then to create groups of actions between
each separator. Actions will be sorted within these groups, but it will
keep service menus original order.

when coming out of sleep mode, either Linux or using the power button on the
monitor to turn it off for a little while when PC is locked.

[kalarm] [Bug 486187] cant activate rtc wakeup

2024-04-27 Thread David Jarvie
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486187

The RTC wake-up code using kernel timers was contributed by somebody else who I
don't have a contract for, and unfortunately I can't test it on my system.
Running the following command might fix the problem:

systemd-run --user --collect --unit kalarm
--property=AmbientCapabilities=CAP_WAKE_ALARM -- kalarm

You may possibly need to quit KAlarm first and then restart it after running
the command (or perhaps it will only work if executed while KAlarm is running).
It would be very helpful if you could report whether this does fix the problem,
and if so whether KAlarm needs to be running when it is executed. Thank you.

This is the relevant code in Discover:

Maybe we shouldn't be using the highlighted text without a highlighted

I'm working on it, in some capacity. I've implemented the necessary checks in
the plugin already and I will try to gray out the button, if krfb isn't
installed or krdc on the paired device.

I'm not sure yet, how to communicate a failure.. and if I will actually
implement it, but my change could prevent a lot of issues first hand.

[kdenlive] [Bug 486207] New: [Feature request] Implement CTRL + X functionality. Absence of very common action across generally most applications in the world, to "cut".

Created attachment 168950
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=168950&action=edit
How shortucts look like

Hello!

There are action that are missing in kdenlive and overcomplicates workflow, I
have to make 2 extra steps to just make "cut". Bassicaly, almost any app have
"CTRL+X" action to cut things. This action is the sequence of COPY -> DELETE.
Kdenlive has "cut", but some kind of "slice", not cut in the default meaning.

Why the absence of it is bad? Let me explain on my workflow. I have 2
sequences. I want to cut 2 clips from 1st sequence and paste it in 2nd
sequence. Without this CTRL+X action I have to 1) Copy 2) Switch to 2nd
sequence 3) Paste in 2nd sequence 4) Return to 1st sequence tab 5) Finally
delete. This is very bad UX.

So my proposal is:
1) Add CTRL+X as "CUT". CUT is an action to cut selected clips from timeline as
a whole.
2) Rename current "CUT" to something that are more suitable by meaning. I would
suggest "SLICE". That is what we are doing with this action

[kdenlive] [Bug 486208] New: [Feature request] Add selection of timeline by quick double click of left mouse button

2024-04-27 Thread Balr Gend
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486208

Bug ID: 486208
Summary: [Feature request] Add selection of timeline by quick
double click of left mouse button
Classification: Applications
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 24.02.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Other
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: User Interface
  Assignee: j...@kdenlive.org
  Reporter: balrogwhip123...@proton.me
  Target Milestone: ---

So there are 2 known to me ways of timeline selection:
1) Clicking on the leftmost field with timeline name (V1, V2, A1 etc).
2) Click with right mouse button on the timeline.
* 3) Might be hotkeys, which are not active used by me except Ctrl+R to "Slice"
clips.

The problem with first is that is counter intuitive and forces me to make extra
mouse movement to the leftmost part of screen. The problem with second is that
invokes menu by right click, which is totally normal.

So my proposal is to allow selection of timeline by double left mouse click on
the timeline itself. Also to prevent moving playhead to the clicked place in
case if there was a double click, not a single click. Preventing playhead from
moving when it's not neccesary is another issue itself.

This is just loud thinking and suggestion. Without handy and quick selection of
timeline the time to work on project increases dramaticaly and even much more
in larger projects (I would call large 5-10m videos, because this can be really
time consuming and complicated to fight with UX as of current state).
