[user-manager] [Bug 373276] New: commit "Do not ask for root permissions when it's unnecessary" makes it difficult to add a new user
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=373276 Bug ID: 373276 Summary: commit "Do not ask for root permissions when it's unnecessary" makes it difficult to add a new user Product: user-manager Version: 5.8.4 Platform: Kubuntu Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: kcontrol module Assignee: j...@jriddell.org Reporter: rik.mill...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- commit "Do not ask for root permissions when it's unnecessary" makes it difficult to add a new user. Refs: https://cgit.kde.org/user-manager.git/commit/?h=Plasma/5.8&id=a666712102be7ef4dd48202cc2411921fc4d392b and https://phabricator.kde.org/D3102 Steps to Reproduce: 1) Open user manager and attempt to add a new unprivileged user, entering username and password 2) Click apply Actual Results: - No pinentry etc authentication dialog to approve the new user. - Cursor switches to the 'I'bar' and remains that when hovered. - The user-list is not updated with the new user. - The new user was not added to the system. Note: With some ticking and unticking of the administrator option and adding/removing a real name etc, it seems possible in some cases to trigger a case where the authentication dialog is produced and the new user is added. Expected Results: As with user-manager prior to this commit, an authentication dialog box should be produced for permission to add the new user to the system, and this should result in the new user begin created and appearing in the user-list Additional Information: I see the same issue on KDE Neon user edition. Building user-manager with the referenced commit reversed and no other changes, restores the functionality to it's previous working state. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

It appears that the 5.83 tarball used for the Neon build: https://archive.neon.kde.org/user/pool/main/k/kio/kio_5.83.0.orig.tar.xz matches the hashes of the initial spin of the kio tar, and not the respun This correlates with the date of the build job, which was before the respin: https://build.neon.kde.org/view/1%20release%20%E2%9B%B0/job/focal_release_kde_kio/41/ So it appears that Neon tar and build is missing: https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/commit/3bc92c23dd3456bb18efd44968fabf32dd9c3402 which I can confirm by doing an manual diff between the Neon repo tar and the release tar from the download sftp -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[plasmashell] [Bug 439037] [Wayland] Application launching only launches previous application
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439037 Rik Mills changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|--- |DUPLICATE Status|REOPENED|RESOLVED --- Comment #4 from Rik Mills --- (In reply to Paul Worrall from comment #3) > Bug 438313 appears to be the same but that one says it's fixed in frameworks > 5.83 and we're both seeing it in that version. That is because the 5.83 tar used by Neon was an early pre-release one lacking the fix that was later added in the final 5.83 tars. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 438313 *** -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
