[user-manager] [Bug 373276] New: commit "Do not ask for root permissions when it's unnecessary" makes it difficult to add a new user

2016-12-04 Thread Rik Mills

Bug ID: 373276
Summary: commit "Do not ask for root permissions when it's
unnecessary" makes it difficult to add a new user
   Product: user-manager
   Version: 5.8.4
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcontrol module
  Assignee: j...@jriddell.org
  Reporter: rik.mill...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

commit "Do not ask for root permissions when it's unnecessary" makes it
difficult to add a new user.

Refs:

https://cgit.kde.org/user-manager.git/commit/?h=Plasma/5.8&id=a666712102be7ef4dd48202cc2411921fc4d392b

and

https://phabricator.kde.org/D3102

Steps to Reproduce:

1) Open user manager and attempt to add a new unprivileged user, entering
username and password

2) Click apply

Actual Results:

- No pinentry etc authentication dialog to approve the new user.
- Cursor switches to the 'I'bar' and remains that when hovered.
- The user-list is not updated with the new user.
- The new user was not added to the system.

Note: With some ticking and unticking of the administrator option and
adding/removing a real name etc, it seems possible in some cases to trigger a
case where the authentication dialog is produced and the new user is added.

Expected Results:

As with user-manager prior to this commit, an authentication dialog box should
be produced for permission to add the new user to the system, and this should
result in the new user begin created and appearing in the user-list

Additional Information:

I see the same issue on KDE Neon user edition.

Building user-manager with the referenced commit reversed and no other changes,
restores the functionality to it's previous working state.

[Discover] [Bug 466765] New: with 5.27.2 discover home tab never loads at startup or when selected

2023-03-03 Thread Rik Mills
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=466765

Bug ID: 466765
Summary: with 5.27.2 discover home tab never loads at startup
or when selected
Classification: Applications
   Product: Discover
   Version: 5.27.2
  Platform: Ubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: major
  Priority: NOR
 Component: discover
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: rikmi...@kde.org
CC: aleix...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

In Kubuntu and Lubuntu/UbuntuStudio 23.04 (which both ship discover), 5.27.2
discover 'home' tab never loads at startup, or when re-selected after viewing
another tab.

Additionally, while discover is both the foreground application and the home
tab is active, discover process uses a high cpu load. Selecting another tab or
another app as foreground cuts off the usage.

Downstream bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-discover/+bug/2008968

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Run the daily live 23.04 ISO from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/daily-live/current/ and start discover; or
2. Install discover 5.27.2 on 22.10 via ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.103.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8
Packagekit: 1.2.6-3 (direct sync from debian testing/unstable)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appears to be a regression introduced by commit
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/discover/-/commit/5dadd14ff12b8a6afae2c557d5948c5c66e1898c

This was confirmed by git bisect of the changes in 5.27.2 since 5.27.1, and
confirmed by test adding a patch reverting that commit to our packaging.

Konsole output after several launches:

lunar@lunar:~$ plasma-discover
fetch ratings! false
adding empty sources model QStandardItemModel(0x56409f738490)
no component found for "com.ubuntu.ubuntu"
packagekitqt.transaction: Unknown Transaction property: "Sender"
QVariant(QString, ":1.94")
packagekitqt.transaction: Unknown Transaction property: "Sender"
QVariant(QString, ":1.94")
packagekitqt.transaction: Unknown Transaction property: "Sender"
QVariant(QString, ":1.94")

which does not differ from 5.27.1 or the reverted state as far as I can see.
Though there is some variation on output from testers.

22.07.5 it seems.

Downgrading accountsservice and libaccountsservice0 in the Neon Jammy 22.04

No, but this has not been set or required in _any_ previous release for kdesu

Furthermore, setting that on a 22.04 system does not in any way change the
behaviour or result. kdesu is still borked.

Bug ID: 440271
Summary: 2.26.1 still installs skrooge_unit.knsrc to
depreciated /etc/xdg/ location
   Product: skrooge
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: guillaume.deb...@gmail.com
  Reporter: rikmi...@kde.org
CC: steph...@mankowski.fr
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

The 2.26.1 changelog includes:

* Correction: Fix deprecated knsrc file location

skrooge_monthly.knsrc had its location set to /usr/share/knsrcfiles/ with

plugins/skrooge/CMakeLists.txt:INSTALL(FILES skrooge_monthly.knsrc DESTINATION
${KDE_INSTALL_KNSRCDIR})

however skrooge_unit.knsrc is still being installed to /etc/xdg/ via:

plugins/skrooge/skrooge_unit/CMakeLists.txt:INSTALL(FILES skrooge_unit.knsrc
DESTINATION ${CONFIG_INSTALL_DIR}

Or one with the fix backported, which is the case with Kubuntu 21.10 and the

> The tarball was made, then released to distros, then respun and released

It appears that the 5.83 tarball used for the Neon build:

https://archive.neon.kde.org/user/pool/main/k/kio/kio_5.83.0.orig.tar.xz

matches the hashes of the initial spin of the kio tar, and not the respun

This correlates with the date of the build job, which was before the respin:

https://build.neon.kde.org/view/1%20release%20%E2%9B%B0/job/focal_release_kde_kio/41/

So it appears that Neon tar and build is missing:

https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/commit/3bc92c23dd3456bb18efd44968fabf32dd9c3402

which I can confirm by doing an manual diff between the Neon repo tar and the
release tar from the download sftp

> Bug 438313 appears to be the same but that one says it's fixed in frameworks

That is because the 5.83 tar used by Neon was an early pre-release one lacking
the fix that was later added in the final 5.83 tars.
