A very standard, normal-sized jpeg image...

Issue occured with several images, not just one.
(All were jpeg's though - in case that matters.)

Hello, sorry to keep you all waiting.

I'm trying to get DebugView working just now. We'll see how far I get.

In the meantime I uploaded the two example files with their original file names
- in case that might have something to do with it.
File names are rather long, I admit. Not sure if that could cause trouble.

Hello Maik, there is no question mark in the file path, it is a "‽" symbol.
It's a combination of a question mark and an exclamation mark; it has a fancy
name, but I forgot what it is.

Important: this character is perfectly accepted in Windows in folders and file
names (so I use it as a workaround whenever I need a question mark).

Cheers, Tim

[digikam] [Bug 469374] New: Should be able to GROUP ('separate') ITEMS by more criteria: DAY, WEEK, YEAR, FILENAME, etcetera.

2023-05-04 Thread Tim Heymans

Bug ID: 469374
Summary: Should be able to GROUP ('separate') ITEMS by more
criteria: DAY, WEEK, YEAR, FILENAME, etcetera.
Classification: Applications
   Product: digikam
   Version: 8.0.0
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Albums-Sort

Created attachment 158699

example of dividing items by first letter of file name - very convenient!

SUMMARY
Sorting is nice, but "dividing" items is better!

For now dividing items is possible only by 4 criteria:
- by album
- by file type
- by month (creation date)
- by face
...Or you can have all your items as a flat list.

I think more criteria are needed!!

I'd like to divide items by:
- creation date: day
- creation date: week
- creation date: year
- by tag (!!)
- by file name (first letter)
- by rating (!)

Even my 10 cent Android photo app can do all this, and it is extremely
convenient.
Come on, Digikam! 

Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Albums-MainView
  Assignee: digikam-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: tim.heym...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
Several images don't load as expected.
In the main view there is no thumbnail but just a green icon (see screenshot).
When double clicking the image, a larger preview isn't loaded either.

SPECIFICS
This is all the more surprising since often I have "doubles" in my library, one
the normal image, the second one a copy with a large chunk of text in the XMP
metadata ('title' field).

This goes well most of the time... But in a number of cases the bug appears and
the image containing the metadata is not readable.

NOTE: I checked in other DAM software and the problem really lies with Digikam.
XnViewer for example can read the supposedly 'defective' file perfectly!

Don't know what to think of this...

Status: REPORTED

SUMMARY
A setting to export and import a user's Digikam set-up seems to be missing.

OBSERVED RESULT
Setting panel does not provide any option to export your Digikam settings.
This is a standard feature in almost all software and is extremely useful to
save custom set-ups of complex software, migrate easier to new devices or OS's,
etc.

EXPECTED RESULT
Options in the setting panel to export and import your settings.

2024-01-29 Thread Tim Heymans
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480461

Hello Gilles, Hello Maik, thanks for getting back to me!

I mean the general settings of the software, so mainly UI customisations.
I am aware of the ability to export shortcuts and metadata rules.

Thanks @gilles for the link.
I had searched the help files and the internet, but had found nothing...

Unfortunately, even with the info in the referred doc, I still haven't found
the digikamui5.rc file I should supposedly be looking for.
Reason: I can't locate the folder mentioned in the doc:
%LocalAppData%\kxmlgui5digikam\digikamui5.rc

I am aware of the "AppData\Local" folder (which does not contain the said
file), but have never heard of a "LocalAppData" folder.
Can you point me in the right direction?

In general I think:
- the current way of working is too complicated for average and even
above-average users
(I'm an experience Windows user myself...)

- a simple way to export ALL settings (so UI, shortcuts AND metadata
preferences) would be a huge win for the software

Thanks for reading me!

Kind regards,

Tim Heymans

Hello, in the meantime I solved my own problem!

I was looking for the config file under C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\digikam
Apparently it is located in C:\Users\Admin\AppData\Local\kxmlgui5\digikam - as
noted in the doc mentioned earlier.

Thanks!

O, wait, I'm confused now!

Apparently there's a "digikamrc" file, a "digikam_systemrc" file and a
"digikamui5" file...

Do you have time to expand a bit on what covers what exactly?

I mean, I can see the descriptions:
-General settings of the application. Delete this and restart digiKam to reset
the application to factory settings
-System settings of the application. Delete this and restart digiKam to reset
the application to factory settings
-contains UI configuration, if your UI is broken, delete this file

But I don't know what is considered "general settings", what "system settings",
and what UI.

Anyway... I can also backup all three of them... 樂
