Unless we *create* or *destroy* forums, the forum and topic IDs should
stay the same. This is more like how they're organized in the hierarchy
(which, as far as I understand from phpBB, is separate from the IDs used
internally for the forums).

That said, we'll make sure this is so, better to rely on facts than on
assumptions. ;)

Do you think the "Semantic Desktop" forum could be removed? Unless,

Done. Existing links *should* continue working. Please report any breakage.

Same for me, I am willing to help, but the problem is they still
couldn't have a direct interaction with the sysadmins which is
mandatory in this case.

[kde-community] Blacklisting of free.fr

2015-09-26 Thread Ben Cooksley
Hi all,

In 48 hours, i'll be blacklisting the entire of free.fr from KDE email
infrastructure. This is necessary as it has become apparent that the
security of @free.fr addresses is quite poor - allowing for
subscribers accounts to be targeted, hacked, and then used to abuse
KDE infrastructure.

Please note that this is not the fault of the people using @free.fr
addresses - despite multiple attempts to use different passwords, etc.
their accounts continue to be breached and customer service is
completely unresponsive to complaints surrounding this issue.

If anyone has any queries regarding this, please let us know.

If someone from free.fr technical support wishes to contact Sysadmin
to discuss this they are welcome to do so (email: sysad...@kde.org),
but all communication MUST be in English. In particular, communication
in French is NOT possible.

Thanks,
Ben Cooksley

Gitlab itself crawled due to the way it handled groups - it simply
wasn't designed to handle a single group containing KDE's ~2000
developers. It also had some fundamental issues with how repositories
got moved around - so if a repository was moved from a user's personal
namespace to the shared KDE namespace, every single KDE developer
would get spammed about this.

Sysadmin also had some concerns regarding the integrity of the
codebase (which was what really killed it).

Throwing hardware at the issue wouldn't have solved the issue from
what I believe - we only threw a handful of our larger repositories at
it.
