AFAIK, and with all due IANAL disclaimer, this has been specifically
addressed at Section 3 (Object Code Incorporating Material from
Library Header Files) of LGPLv3. For LGPLv2'ed applications, expanding
inline functions and templates inside an application's object would
render LGPLv2 equivalent to the GPL. As stated in LGPLv3, even if the
application's object incorporate header elements which "are not
limited to numerical parameters, data structure layouts and accessors,
or small macros, inline functions and templates (ten or fewer lines in
length)" you may convey such object code under terms of your choice as
long as:

"
a) Give prominent notice with each copy of the object code that the
Library is used in it and that the Library and its use are covered by
this License.
b) Accompany the object code with a copy of the GNU GPL and this
license (LGPLv3) document.
"

KDE e.V. Community Report for 2016 is out

2017-05-04 Thread Sandro Andrade
Dear KDE Community,

We're happy to inform you that we have just published the KDE e.V.
Community Report for 2016:

https://ev.kde.org/reports/ev-2016/

This report includes statements from the board, a featured article
about the 20th anniversary of KDE, summaries about developer sprints
and conferences supported by KDE e.V., statements from our Working
Groups, development highlights for 2016, and some information about
the current structure of KDE e.V.

Enjoy the reading :)

Fundraising Working Group - call for members

2017-01-23 Thread Sandro Andrade
Dear community,

KDE has been doing fundraising campaigns for some years already. In
spite of that, we still think there are a lot of room for improvements
in the way we currently carry out such campaigns and in the strategies
currently adopted. We (the board) have been discussing lately about
creating a fundraising working group and we agreed that's something we
want to do. We made a list of potential tasks for the working group:

On the technical side:
* Designing content of campaign landing page
* Supporting tracking progress of the campaign
* Maintaining payment infrastructure
* Improving data analysis
* Mailing donors to get information like the address in order to send postcards

On the marketing side:
* Getting input from the community for and writing text for fundraising page
* Producing social media content
* Creating videos and other artwork
* Researching and evaluating fundraising tools like matching donations
and giving gifts in exchange for donations
* Showcasing donation impact to donors
* Coming up with fitting goodie ideas and publicity stunts in order to
get attention
* Mobilizing the community to help spread the word about the
fundraiser and why it matters

Now, it's the time when we should start looking for prospective
members. If you are interested in joining the fundraising WG or have
any question regarding that please don't hesitate in emailing the
board (kde-ev-board at kde dot org). Of course, people experienced
with fundraising are quite welcome, but also do not refrain yourself
of joining the WG because of no previous experience. We've been
building knowledge in this area together and getting better year by
year.

I'm looking forward for candidates :)

Cheers,
Sandro

results from Randa. I'm preparing a dot story, please keep spreading.

While I agree this may demotivate some donors, I'm quite conviced the
reason for not
reaching the goal isn't the one you pointed out. We've run the campaign
before Randa
dates in last years and we always experience the same fast "audience drain"
effect, for
a number of reasons I'd be happy to discuss afterwards.

Hi there,

We'll run the Randa Meetings 2016 fundraising campaign from 10th June
to 8th July (starts next Friday). In spite of not having something
super-awesome to show up, the basic material (motto/short description
[1] and story [2]) is already in place. I'm currently finishing the
website configuration.

Last year's twitter series (7 reasons to donate) has proven to be
quite useful, so we'll to it again this year. My suggestion is doing
that around N "did you know?" facts regarding KDE on other platforms,
along with a claim to donate. I've started a etherpad for that [3] .

For each twit, we need:

Great! It'd be really awesome if we could make them look nice in every
device, something
akin with the bootstrap-based template I've used in the e.V. report.

Ken, let me know if there is anything I can help with. I've just
subscribed to kde-www ml but
can't find anything related to that in archives.

Sandro

Hi Clemens,

We haven't considered expanding it to ev.kde.org. Maybe it's worth
to coordinate with kde-www team and hear their general plans to
revamp KDE websites. IIRC, some work were done at CERN sprint
but I'm unsure if it was content-related only or if it also encompassed
layout/design issues.

Cheers,
Sandro

Yes, Thanks Thomas :)

Thanks for reporting Harish. It's fixed now!

[kde-community] KDE e.V. Quarterly Report 2014 Q4

2015-10-21 Thread Sandro Andrade
Hi there,

I'm happy to inform you that we have just published the quarterly
report for the Q4 2014:
http://ev.kde.org/reports/ev-quarterly-2014_Q4.pdf

The quarterly presents a note from the board, a compendium of KDE
participation in Google Summer of Code 2014, reports from sprints and
trade shows, the new KDE e.V. members for that quarter, and the
finances for 2014.

Cheers,
Sandro

 Hi

Anyone interested? This would be happening in the next couple of weeks
 ideally

 No one?

Hi,

When do you need it by? We're gonna have LaKademy 2015 running next
week, so I'm afraid I couldn't have this done before the week of 8th
June. It'd be great if someone else could finish this earlier, though.
