Thank you for the comment, we added an explicit note to forward the
existing translation SRT files to the translators so they can update the po
directly to be the only source.

Cheers,

Johnny

I'm a bit confused that page doesn't mention the workflow of using .po files
that seems should be the preferred one?

Hi,

In addition, if someone has knowledge about automatising API calls to
Youtube (login using OAuth2 without having prompts every two weeks...)
in Python, feel free to reach me so we can improve this part as for
now, the upload is still not fully automatised within KDE infra.

Also, the source code is available in
https://invent.kde.org/websites/video-subtitles and Python is not my
strong language so feel free to update and improve it :).

Cheers,

Johnny

[call to action] "KDE For All" goal | Adding video subtitles

2023-10-16 Thread Joseph P. De Veaugh-Geiss
Hello! As part of the /KDE For All/ accessibility goal [1], KDE is now
adding subtitles to videos, including translations.

Will your team join us in making KDE's videos accessible for all?

Recently Johnny Jazeix, GCompris contributor and leader in the
mentorship programs SoK/GSoC, expanded the existing subtitling workflow
so that the translation team is involved. Once translations are
completed, posting videos in more languages is now more or less automatic.

By subtitling videos and providing translations, KDE's media can reach
more people and more communities around the world.

So how does it work?

The creator of the video uploads the SRT (subtitle formatted file) in
English to Invent along with a short configuration file. Translators
then translate the SRT into different languages. These translations will
gradually be uploaded to both PeerTube and YouTube. For details about
creating video subtitles using Kdenlive and uploading them to
invent.kde.org, see this page at the community wiki:

* https://community.kde.org/Video_Subtitles

The whole process may take several days, as different translation teams
work in different time zones and work at different rates. For examples
of videos using the system on both platforms, see the following:

* https://tube.kockatoo.org/w/3moubSFAnn6n5UAQoyuetW
* https://tube.kockatoo.org/w/3Sb8KKCmdQcPgoQsyK24YE
* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFlQR0ymisE&t=31s

The Krita team has already begun using this workflow [2], and we would
like to involve more and more of KDE's teams in this effort.

For support, please reach out to the community at:

* https://go.kde.org/matrix/#/#kde-www:kde.org

For translation support, please see the wiki page:

* https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/translation

Thanks to Johnny Jazeix and Paul Brown for their excellent work in
making this possible.

Cheers,
Joseph
