Re: [kde-freebsd] Display Problems in 4.8.3 on FreeBSD 8.3 stable
Hi people. After a half day test, I experienced again the shared memory problem (ok, heavy graphic usage, but a realistic pattern as well). That means 16384 is too low for a generic and realist usage. 32768 is a better and safer value. Bumping up kern.ipc.shmall fixed it, so this seems to be a separate issue. Perhaps this should be documented in UPDATING? You're on FreeBSD 8, right? Luca found that shmall limit is much lower on that version. I'll add a minimum limit to qt4-gui/pkg-message as soon as we are able to determine a safe one (Luca seems to have an idea of it). Right, 8.3 stable. Re: [kde-freebsd] Akonadi/mysqld problems
Done some further digging: It appears that something is going on with the db connections between mysqld and akonadi. The net_read_timeout value is being invoked, somehow. Basically, under the default value, 30, 30 seconds after you start up akonadi mysqld kills all the connections. Akonadi expects persistent connections... the conf file it uses resets wait_timeout to 1 year. I'm currently experimenting with changing net_read_timeout, although obviously this is a hack fix. I've set it to 1 hr. We'll see how that goes. Couple of other things: When akonadi sets up its database, it doesn't create the mysql system database. This creates a bunch of errors when mysqld starts up. It may not do any actual harm, though. On linux the mysql system database is installed. The reset of wait_timeout to 1 year seems to be ignored. On my system it stays at the default 8 hrs. I haven't filed a bug report on this yet, but if the list feels it's warranted, I will. akonadi bugs always leave me confused. You may want to try the kdepim-users mailing list before filing a bug report, otherwise filing a bug is the best way to get someone more acquainted to akonadi to take a look at the issue. This isn't pim related. I have the same akonadi issues on a machine where no kdepim is installed. Simply logging out and back in will resolve the issue until it comes back on a flip of a coin that can take anywhere from 1 hour to several months. I haven't been able to root cause it, but it feels like they're using persistent connections and when they get invalidated by the server, instead of reconnecting properly they go into a busy loop. This is supported by the fact that I can do the exact same query as the user running this, using the embedded database and /usr/local/bin/mysql and get a proper response. -- Mel ___ kde-freebsd mailing list kde-freebsd@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-freebsd See also http://freebsd.kde.org/ for latest information
