Re: [kde-freebsd] KDE 4/5
Hi Stari For me plasma5 works great (I'm using it as my main desktop since ~2years). kde-workspace4 is a longterm release (since a long time). Issues with kde are best reported here, because else, it might get overlooked. mfg Tobias 2016-06-04 1:39 GMT+02:00 Stari Karp: > Hi! > > I have some questions about KDE: > > Does Plasma (KDE 5) from area51 has still many problems? > Does KDE 4.14. 3 has still support from KDE? > Is better to ask questions with problems related to FreeBSD mailing list or > here on KDE mailing list? > > Thank you very much. > > SK > > ___ > kde-freebsd mailing list > kde-freebsd@kde.org > https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-freebsd > See also http://freebsd.kde.org/ for latest information > ___ kde-freebsd mailing list kde-freebsd@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-freebsd See also http://freebsd.kde.org/ for latest information
[kde-freebsd] KDE 4/5
Hi! I have some questions about KDE: Does Plasma (KDE 5) from area51 has still many problems? Does KDE 4.14. 3 has still support from KDE? Is better to ask questions with problems related to FreeBSD mailing list or here on KDE mailing list? Thank you very much. Re: [kde-freebsd] KDE-FreeBSD: commiters and mentors needed
Hi Kurt, this PR is Qt related: https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=198574 I have checked that with Virtualbox and witout the patch I get the messages: Qt WARNING: libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile due to wrong png files, which the patch fixes. I applied the patch from the PR and rebuild virtualbox, then retried. The errors are away now. More info on the underlying issue is found here: https://forum.qt.io/topic/58638/solved-libpng-warning-iccp-known-incorrect-srgb-profile-drive-me-nuts http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/libpng-manual.txt Error detection in some chunks has improved; in particular the iCCP chunk reader now does pretty complete validation of the basic format. Some bad profiles that were previously accepted are now rejected, in particular the very old broken Microsoft/HP sRGB profile. The PNG spec requirement that only grayscale profiles may appear in images with color type 0 or 4 and that even if the image only contains gray pixels, only RGB profiles may appear in images with color type 2, 3, or 6, is now enforced. The sRGB chunk is allowed to appear in images with any color type. -- Kind regards, Ralf Nolden ___ kde-freebsd mailing list kde-freebsd@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-freebsd See also http://freebsd.kde.org/ for latest information

Yes, I was planning to do so but didn't get around to it before saturday night .. by which time you'd already committed things. I've filed one little PR for the ibase-plugin change that snuck in with another PR, and updated audio/simon. [kde-freebsd] KDE 4.14.2 *very* inresponsive to mouse events
Hello, I have a system with a 11-CURRENT r276659 amd64 and KDE 4.14.2 (all ports compiled out of SVN from January this year and installed as packages yesterday) on a new netbook Acer C720 with 4 GByte RAM. The system is very fast, KDE boots up from 'startx' in 25 seconds. The KDE env was created in an empty HOME by the 1st KDE start. It is not manageable with the mouse. The mouse itself is fine (checked with 'xev') and the start of components is fast too (for example when one starts 'konqueror' from a xterm shell cmd line). But, if you start something with the moues, it is inresponsive. For example a click in the KDE-menu icon takes 1 minute to bring up the control panel, and when you click there 'System Settings', it takes another minute to bring up this window. Where to look now? With this the KDE jingle is played on login to the disktop; what is not working is, if you go to System-Settings -- System Notification Configuration and play there any given sound just for test, no sound is produced and it gives the error messages attached below in the console where you run the 'startx' command. # pkg-static -R install gstreamer1-plugins-all # pkg-static info | fgrep gstreamer gstreamer-0.10.36_2Development framework for creating media applications gstreamer-ffmpeg-0.10.13_3 GStreamer plug-in for manipulating MPEG video streams gstreamer-plugins-0.10.36_4,3 GStreamer written collection of plugins handling several media types gstreamer-plugins-a52dec-0.10.19_1,3 Gstreamer ATSC A/52 stream aka AC-3 (dvd audio) plugin gstreamer-plugins-bad-0.10.23_1,3 Bad gstreamer-plugins gstreamer-plugins-core-0.10_13 Core set of typical audio and video gstreamer-plugins gstreamer-plugins-dts-0.10.23_1,3 Gstreamer dts plugin gstreamer-plugins-dvd-0.10.19_3,3 Gstreamer dvd plugin set gstreamer-plugins-good-0.10.31_2,3 Good gstreamer-plugins gstreamer-plugins-libpng-0.10.31_1,3 Gstreamer png plugin gstreamer-plugins-mad-0.10.19_2,3 Gstreamer mp3 decoder plugin gstreamer-plugins-mp3-0.10.0_1 Gstreamer Plugins Mp3 decoder meta-port gstreamer-plugins-ogg-0.10.36_1,3 Gstreamer Ogg bitstream plugin gstreamer-plugins-pango-0.10.36_2,3 Gstreamer pango textoverlay plugin gstreamer-plugins-theora-0.10.36_1,3 Gstreamer theora plugin gstreamer-plugins-ugly-0.10.19_1,3 Ugly gstreamer-plugins gstreamer-plugins-vorbis-0.10.36_1,3 Gstreamer vorbis encoder/decoder plugin gstreamer-plugins-xvid-0.10.23_1,3 Gstreamer xvid plugin gstreamer1-1.2.4 Media applications framework gstreamer1-libav-1.2.4_1 GStreamer plug-in with many audio/video decoders/encoders gstreamer1-plugins-1.2.4 GStreamer written collection of plugins handling several media types gstreamer1-plugins-a52dec-1.2.4 Gstreamer ATSC A/52 stream aka AC-3 (dvd audio) plugin gstreamer1-plugins-aalib-1.2.4 Gstreamer ASCII art plugin gstreamer1-plugins-all-1.2_1 Meta-port of all gstreamer 1.x plugins with options gstreamer1-plugins-amrnb-1.2.4 Gstreamer OpenCore based Adaptive Multi-Rate Narrow-Band plugin gstreamer1-plugins-amrwbdec-1.2.4 Gstreamer OpenCore based Adaptive Multi-Rate Wide-Band Decoder plugin gstreamer1-plugins-assrender-1.2.4 Gstreamer ASS/SSA text renderer plugin gstreamer1-plugins-bad-1.2.4 Bad gstreamer-plugins gstreamer1-plugins-cairo-1.2.4 Gstreamer vector graphics plugin gstreamer1-plugins-cdio-1.2.4 Gstreamer compact disc input and control library gstreamer1-plugins-cdparanoia-1.2.4 Gstreamer CDDA extraction (aka audio ripping) plugin gstreamer1-plugins-curl-1.2.4 Gstreamer curl plugin gstreamer1-plugins-dts-1.2.4 Gstreamer dts plugin gstreamer1-plugins-dv-1.2.4Gstreamer dv plugin gstreamer1-plugins-dvdread-1.2.4_1 Gstreamer dvdread plugin gstreamer1-plugins-faad-1.2.4 Gstreamer MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AAC decoder plugin gstreamer1-plugins-flac-1.2.4 Gstreamer free lossless audio encoder/decoder plugin gstreamer1-plugins-flite-1.2.4 Gstreamer flite run-time speech synthesis engine plugin gstreamer1-plugins-gdkpixbuf-1.2.4 Gstreamer image decoder plugin gstreamer1-plugins-gme-1.2.4 Gstreamer gme plugin gstreamer1-plugins-gnonlin-1.2.1 Gstreamer lib for writing non-linear audio and video gstreamer1-plugins-good-1.2.4_1 Good gstreamer-plugins gstreamer1-plugins-gsm-1.2.4 Gstreamer gsm encoding/decoding plugin gstreamer1-plugins-jack-1.2.4 Gstreamer low-latency audio server plugin gstreamer1-plugins-jpeg-1.2.4 Gstreamer jpeg encoder/decoder plugin gstreamer1-plugins-kate-1.2.4 Gstreamer kate codec plugin gstreamer1-plugins-libcaca-1.2.4_1 Gstreamer color ASCII art plugin gstreamer1-plugins-libmms-1.2.4 Gstreamer mms:// and mmsh:// plugin gstreamer1-plugins-libvisual-1.2.4 Gstreamer libvisual plugin gstreamer1-plugins-mad-1.2.4 Gstreamer mp3 decoder plugin gstreamer1-plugins-modplug-1.2.4 Gstreamer modplug plugin gstreamer1-plugins-mpeg2dec-1.2.4 Gstreamer mpeg decode plugin gstreamer1-plugins-mpeg2enc-1.2.4_1 Gstreamer mpeg encoder plugin gstreamer1-plugins-neon-1.2.4 Gstreamer neon http source plugin gstreamer1-plugins-ogg-1.2.4 Gstreamer Ogg bitstream plugin gstreamer1-plugins-opencv-1.2.4 Gstreamer opencv real time computer vision plugin

I'd hope that if it comes before 10.1 that there is time for a package build and time for people to install it before the 10.1 release. This week's package build is underway and may be complete. [kde-freebsd] kde-workspace does not build
WITH_NEW_XORG=yes caused my PC to hang, seriously hanging or even rebooting without any chance to trouble-shoot. So I decided against that option. When I now wanted to try a build of x11/kde4-workspace, I run into trouble. The solution mentioned in here: http://mail-index.netbsd.org/pkgsrc-bugs/2013/12/11/msg053037.html did also work for me. (Of course, I had to edit the files manually). I build without any options from the make config menu. So, even without GLES, the problem happened. I did not test, whether the exclusions would work with X-Server and option WITH_NEW_XORG=yes, so in other words, whether #if GLX_GLXEXT_VERSION = 32 makes any sense. But I would like to see such a simple patch to enable build on systems, where WITH_NEW_XORG=yes is no suitable option. [kde-freebsd] KDE 4.12 on FreeBSD 10.0 Thick Client
Hi, I am trying to get KDE to work on a diskless client. I am not having much luck getting the initial environment to come up correctly. Everything is NFS mounted. System partitions are mounted read only (/ and /usr), things that require writing (/var, /usr/home, /usr/local/share/config/kdm) are mounted with memory disks or NFS mounted with read/write. The issue is when I log in. This happens whether it's a user in the 'local' (NFS mounted) password file or the LDAP that I have now managed to invoke with a KDE PAM module: I get a black screen with no toolbar with a 'close a window' red X button where the 'K' menu should be and two 'new activity' launchers in the upper and lower right corners. Does anyone have a list as to what KDM/KDE does upon startup (like copying files to user accounts and the locations of said files) so that I can track down what is wrong? I have email filters and they works but there are still complain that cannot move email from Inbox to other folders. There are five (5) identical Personal Contacts in Address Book. Are those problems related to workspace 11.6, please. When I got an error complaining about moving emails from Inbox to FreeBSD for examle it is comming from Workspace. [kde-freebsd] KDE 4.12 and WITH_NEW_XORG=no
As we're finally close to getting the 4.12.1 ports into a reasonable stable where everything builds, I'd like to start discussing merging area51 back into ports -- we've already skipped the whole 4.11 release cycle. As I see it, the biggest question is what to do with WITH_NEW_XORG=no: kde4-workspace will not build with the ancient version of Mesa that gets build when WITH_NEW_XORG is disabled. And FreeBSD's pkg building cluster does not enable this variable on its 8- and 9- builds, which mean we wouldn't get part of the KDE packages built for those releases at all. ___ kde-freebsd mailing list kde-freebsd@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-freebsd See also http://freebsd.kde.org/ for latest information

Right now you can't use it for anything, but I'm working to make it committable. As Alberto writes, Qt5 is not usuable with KDE 4. The situation is this: - KDE4 is QT4-only. - Qt5 is sometimes source-incompatible with Qt4 - Qt5 introduces a strong emphasis on QML, which is new (relative to Qt4) technology, although it's been available for, what, 2 years already. - With Qt5, KDE is now KDE Frameworks and KDE Applications, and the entire layout of the packages they ship is changed; some things have moved from kdelibs (developed in KDE4) into Qt, and the whole stack has become much more modularized (some might say fragmented, but that's only if you're building it yourself). - KDE Frameworks makes heavy use of the QML from Qt5. - I gather Qt5 is a hard nut already on FreeBSD - KDE Frameworks probably contains a year and a half of mostly-Linux development and will be quite a challenge. Is the following list-of-things-to-do a good start? 1 bump the KDE version in KDE/Mk/bsd.Mk.kde 2 fetch kdelibs update distinfo 3 try building that with the existing ports Makefile 4 futz around till it compiles 5 update plist from stage 6 go to 2 with a port higher up the stack [ade] ___ kde-freebsd mailing list kde-freebsd@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kde-freebsd See also http://freebsd.kde.org/ for latest information I have kde-4.11.5 ports here, so far I don't see any new issues but alot of ports still need plist checking, especially the minor translation (KDE/misc/*) ones. In are51 is nothing in update what I am asking for. Qt 5 is NOT an upgrade of Qt 4, it's a different version of the framework. Hi! Looks like KDE 4.10 will be out soon (first week in February). Doe 4.10 need QT-5 please which I saw you are working on. I planned to install 4.9 but as I saw about 4.10 is better to wait because February is not so far. Thanks in advance.
