Sorry, must have seen this as an old 3.x line bug. There is of course no reason
to close this - in the contrary as this is a Beta problem.

Can you post the link to the forum thread too?

[Bug 219652] New: kmail eats up memory when moving mails between imap servers

2009-12-22 Thread kmail-bug
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219652

Summary: kmail eats up memory when moving mails between imap
servers
   Product: kmail
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: kmail-...@davidwagner.de

Version:(using KDE 4.3.4)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

when moving mails from a folder on imap server a to imap server b kmail
consumes more and more memory, I ended up with 2.6G virt mem after moving some
600MB mails (it then didn't quit cleanly, but this is not the core issue)
Seems similar to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95461.

I really love kmail but this is a shame. I had to switch to Thunderbird to move
my mails, worked without any flaw.

I'll be happy to provide more details if needed but this seems to be general
issue, I already had that when moving from one server to another about 1 year
ago.

[Bug 219662] New: Can't mark all mails with Ctrl-A anymore

2009-12-22 Thread Rolf Eike Beer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219662

Summary: Can't mark all mails with Ctrl-A anymore
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.13.0
  Platform: unspecified
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: k...@opensource.sf-tec.de

Version: 1.13.0 (using 4.3.85 (KDE 4.3.85 (KDE 4.4 Beta2)) release
3, KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:Desktop / openSUSE_11.2)
Compiler: gcc
OS:Linux (i686) release 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop

When I mark a mail in the list of mails in a folder I can't select all mails
with Ctrl-A anymore, instead the complete text of the currently selected mail
is selected. This worked in 4.3.

Typical usecase: mark all mails in spam folder and kick them or mark everything
in a specific folder and then do something like mark as read.

Well, I don't fully understand what you want. But I suggest creating several
folders in which you put the files by filters on income. Use another filter
with a keyboard accelerator to transfer specific mails in an other folder and
mark them as important.
Something like this.

I noticed a similar behaviour on KDE 4.3.4

(1) Start Kontact

(2) Make sure to enter Akregator

(3) Close Kontact by right-clicking the kmail tray icon - close

(4) Wait a very long time until all processes have finished (socket processes)

if you then run ps aux | grep kontact

you'll notice that the kontact binary is still a running process. I have to
manually kill it before I can restart kontact.

[Bug 219687] New: Sending a message takes a lot of time and resources eaten by Nepomuk/Virtuoso

2009-12-22 Thread René Krell
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219687

Summary: Sending a message takes a lot of time and resources
eaten by Nepomuk/Virtuoso
   Product: kmail
   Version: 1.13.0
  Platform: unspecified
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: rkr...@gmx.net

Version: 1.13.0 (using 4.3.85 (KDE 4.3.85 (KDE 4.4 Beta2)) release
203, KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop / openSUSE_11.2)
Compiler: gcc
OS:Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop

Each time I Press Send in the composer window sending a message takes about 1
minute. The composer elements gets grayed out after about half of this time,
but are immediately inaccessible (as it should be, of course). During those
ages of sending a message the CPU is eaten by the nepomukserver and virtuoso
processes. If the system is under a wanted high load sending a message takes
more time than normally.

This is probably because of the distribution list expanding code, which uses a
ContactSearchJob that uses Nepomuk to do the search.

No idea why that is slow, adding Sebastian to the CC list, maybe he knows.

I'm also seeing this, but it doesn't take half a minute for me, but some
seconds.

I don't have KDE 4.3 installed. The last stable version of KDE I used was 4.2,
and I didn't stay long (it wasn't very usable for me).

I'm currently testing the 4.4 beta, and there I can't even select a
distribution list for the mail recipient so I can't test it. Many mail
functions do not work well or do not work at all with 4.4 beta, and I'm not
sure if I need to report them all or assume that developers are working on them
and wait for the next beta.

not with KDE 4.4 beta1 anymore, so I think this problem is fixed in trunk.

The error is now different.

If I start KNode I receive kdeinit4.exe

The instruction at 0x7c9131a6 referenced memory at 0x0001.
The memory could not be read.

Afterwards KNode starts and seems usable.

I think it's just the shortcut that changed, we now have shortcuts for Select
All Text and Select All Messages.
I think for all messages, it is Ctrl+Alt+A.

This issue is _not_ addressed with the new KDE 4.2 UI.

I think that the OP was not clear in explaining the Gmail experience for those
not familiar with it. In Gmail, one sees a flat list of all messages, both
received and sent. This is not a flat list in the list pane, rather in the
message pane.

For a detailed description of Gmail's threading with user's replies, see the
heading Viewing a conversation thread on this page:
