Since then the above happened. Renaming ~/.kde4/share/apps/akregator to ~/.kde4/share/apps/akregator~ resolved the issue. This is a regression from KDE SC 4.3.4, kmail was working as expected before. It was even worse with 4.4beta2 though. When I closed that kmail crashed before I could click Inbox.
