--- Comment #3 from Allen Winter winter kde org 2011-11-28 13:23:35 ---
Laurent, I disagree.

The reason this option exists is for people who disliked the new recipients
editor and wanted to keep only 1 To: line when *composing* a message.

basically, I think this option should be ignored in all other cases, like
replying or forwarding.

but in the end it's your call.

That mail is text/plain with some text that is what an multipart/alternative
message should look like.

Note the Content-Type: text/plain; header in the main section.

If it is correct that this mail was composed in KMail there is a bug in the
composer.

Version: Git (master)

Since a few days, I have a folder where kmail keeps insisting that is has an
unread email. It has none though. If I use the jump to next unread email
action e.g. it just picks a random email.

Any idea on what I could debug here? Or at least how to fix it? It's
distracting me.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
sadly, I have no clue what happened here

Actual Results:

if kmail says there is unread mail, I should be able to read this unread mail
and make it read :)

[Bug 287779] New: Copy Email then Paste As Attachment does not work as expected

Sometimes the user may wish to attach an existing email as an attachment in the
composer (but not by using Forward - As attachment, e.g. if it is wanted in
reply to an existing message). One logical way to do this would be to select
the message to be attached, Edit - Copy Email, go to the composer, then Edit
- Paste as Attachment.

If this is done, what happens is that the GUI becomes unresponsive and the
kmail process takes 100% CPU. What it is doing is trying to create a zip
attachment of the entire user's documents directory, the only way out of this
is either to wait or to kill the kmail process.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Select an existing message in the message list, do Edit - Copy Email.
Open a composer window, do Edit - Paste as Attachment.

Actual Results:
The GUI becomes unresponsive, the disc starts churning, KMail takes 100% CPU.

Expected Results:
The message is pasted as an attachment.

Messages displayed on stderr (this is the start of a very long transcript which
lists the entire contents of the documents directory):

Akonadi is invoked indirectly by the KDE PIM libraries, which Konversation uses
for integration with the KDE address book. This integration currently cannot be
disabled (although we're currently planning to change that).

That said, migration being done repeatedly does sound like a bug. Reassigning
to Akonadi.

Hi Laurent,

might I also ask you to re-think your decision? Everybody in KDE-land lived
with the expected behaviour that Danny describes for years (10 for me). I,
personally, have never noticed any issues with long URLs - is it true that a
soft break that only exists in the editor window *display* could corrupt the
URL? I'll check next weekend on another machine with KDE4.6, can't believe.

The fixed behaviour now is just crazy. Every paragraph I write in my e-mail
is one single line only (that extends to many many times the window width and
requires extensive horizontal scrolling). This is crazy from a usabiltiy
standpoint!
Of course, I can switch to fixed linebreak at 78 but this is not what I want.
The receiver's mail client should decide when to break the lines - a smartphone
is much different from a 16:9 widescreen... Same goes with me when composing
the text - way different between Netbook and Desktop. 78 for everything is not
the solution!

Please revert the change or think about a solution that fixes the URL problem
without breaking basic mail editing functionality...

Thanks
Tobias

I have exactly the same problem. I am unable to read ANY of my emails !
stop/start akonadi, kmail, linux reboot does not improve anything.

This is a VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM rendering kmail unusable.

Error messages in mysql.err are :

ItemRetrieverException : Unable to retrieve item from resource: Did not
receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a
reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout
expired, or the network connection was broken

Git commit aedcddf94b1b10b929d244d1063cb61c2c467105 by Allen Winter.
Committed on 29/11/2011 at 04:16.
Pushed by winterz into branch 'master'.

in Private::storeListResult(), don't try to create a delete job
for an empty list of items. probably means that the ItemDeleteJob
class should assert on such cases so we find other errors like this.

Patch by Ahti, thanks!

Attaching to systemsettings with debugger it looks like read only checkbox is
being initialized before ResourceConfigBase::ResourceConfigBase() is called
which is responsible for populating akonadi resource collection. Empty
collection is considered a read only.

Hi Kurt,

Thanks for your report. I'm trying to reach Akonadi devs that may answer
whether this case should be handled by the resource or by Akonadi itself. By
looking at the IMAP resource code it's doing the same thing, so I'm wondering
if this should not be addressed elsewhere than in the resources. More infos
later.

Cheers,
Grégory
