Can someone confirm the bug still being there for Kmail >5.3.0 (KDE
Applications > 16.08)? Right now, we have only 2 people stating that it is
fixed for these latter versions, so unless someone confirms the bug still being
there, I think it's fair to say the bug is likely being fixed, but we'd need
more confirmation to actually be sure. 

If you don't have 5.3.0 installed, the best way would be to fire up a live USB
Neon image, set up your accounts and try to send an e-mail and see if the bug
is still triggered.

The bug ha been there for years now, with no one fixing it.
I would advise you stop hassling yourself and just switch to another 
email client

Im using thunderbird, even though i prefer kontact.
After some tweeks it works rather well.

- What I was doing when the application crashed:

I start kontact under plasma wayland through krunner or the kde menu and after
it shows up for half a second it crashes.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:

If I start kontact under X11 either way it works. If I start kontakt under
wayland from a shell window it works two. So I guess it might require some
terminal under wayland. I can also bg kontact after the start and it keeps
running.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

my distribution is debian 8.
kmail started to fail immediately after I installed the lsb-core package as
requested by message of apt-get dist-upgrade to make operative google-earth.

The message was from journalctl.
But as montel from #akonadi pointed out its an smtp error.
So this should affect any calendar invite.

Where does the name 'Bj?rn Bidar' come from? It looks like an encoding error.
If you are sure your address book entry is correct, the code needs to be
checked for wrong Unicode <-> Latin1 conversions.

I have the same problem, except, it isn't just if the hotkey is used. It
