I can reproduce the issue every time I do:
* open composer
* press "Select" button for To/CC/BCC address
* crash.

kmail, kontact, and akonadiserver report version 5.4.0 (I have a KDE neon User
Edition 5.8 installation).

Not sure how useful this is, but I've been testing - quite successfully - with
below patch for the last few weeks.

Although the patch itself is rather ugly (it basically intercepts the
processing of the 'Read' event, bringing back 4.x comparable behaviour), I
haven't seen any side effects of it yet. YMMV.

I don't expect this to be applied to official sources, but might be useful for
people building their own binaries.

The delete message action no longer works with the SHIFT-DEL keyboard shortcut.
 Setting the shortcut to something else (I tested with SHIFT-P) or adding an
delete icon in the toolbar does work.

This is in Version 5.4.0 Using :
KDE Frameworks 5.29.0
Qt 5.7.1 (built against 5.7.1)
The xcb windowing system


Expected behaviour :

When viewing the message list, pressing SHIFT-DEL should delete the selected
messages.


Current behaviour :

In the message list, when one or more messages are selected pressing SHIFT-DEL
does nothing.

I found a way to solve the problem. I edited the kmail2rc file in ".config". I
set the line "first-start=true" that was "first-start=false"in the section
"[General]". I recovered the keyboard input but now each time I close Kmail I
have an error message saying that the application has closed with an error!
