[Akonadi] [Bug 472827] Plasma crashed while Firefox and Telegram were open (kwin_screencast -> pipewire => crash)

2023-07-31 Thread Ben P
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=472827

Re screencasts, I've just remembered that Firefox has been flaky with
screensharing for a couple of days. Never had that problem before.

Currently can't repo to get an exact error but the gist is "error:
kwin_screencast can't create pipewire stream". Could be related..?

As of version 3.1.24.221202 (22.12.2) I can't reproduce your issue, however I
recall a similar problem occurring with the Flatpak version of Kleopatra. If
that is the case it's likely to be a permission issue.

I also would like to see a default set of reminders that is just set whenever
creating a new event, and can be disabled/removed with own click.
As a bit a of an ADS candidate (calendars are our best friends), I typically
just put 3 reminders for any and all events: 1 day, 2 hours and 1 hour before.
It's a bit of a simpler ask than OP's I believe, but also half way there, so
could be considered a milestone.
Currently, Korganizer actually has this, but with just one default reminder
(https://superuser.com/a/1468188/403260).
On a possible roadmap:
- my requirement could be a next step, simply adding the option for more
default reminders in that exact menu ( Menu -> Settings -> Configure KOrganizer
-> Time and Date -> Default values -> Enable reminders for new events /
to-dos).
- The next IMO would be to make that one easier to find (what is it doing under
"Time and Date" and behind five clicks?).
- Further steps would lead up to OP's idea of several groups of default
reminders (important, leisure, etc.)

I've noticed that some emails will automatically open web pages upon opening
the email. Unfortunately I cannot share an example email as it contains way
too much personal information. This situation is not only annoying (I assure
you it's extremely annoying), but is a security risk as well. An option to
disable it should be added.

I'm not HTML wizard, but it seems like this line in the header may be what's
doing it.

SUMMARY
When kmail is doing something in the background, such as applying filters,
emails cannot be opened. This is super aggravating and should not be the case.
There's times where it's faster to go get my phone and open an email rather
than waiting on kmail to figure itself out. Please re-prioritize the download
/ opening of emails to preempt anything else kmail is doing.

[kidentitymanagement] [Bug 363728] New: Account Recovery requires user to remember user account name.

2016-05-31 Thread Ben Cooksley via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=363728

Bug ID: 363728
Summary: Account Recovery requires user to remember user
account name.
   Product: kidentitymanagement
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
   URL: https://identity.kde.org/index.php?r=site/passwordRese
t
OS: other
Status: RESOLVED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: rabc...@hotmail.com
CC: bcooks...@kde.org
Resolution: DUPLICATE
CC: bcooks...@kde.org
Status: RESOLVED

Summary pretty much says it all, on kde.identity users are far, far, far more
likely to forget their username than their password since you have a completely
broken username registration system as well (e.g. you do not allow the users to
pick their own username, you automatically generate their usernames)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Forget your username
2. Try to recover account
3. Cry

Actual Results:
Lots of crying

Expected Results:
Successful account recovery

You can select "Automatically compact folders" in the Advanced Tab of the IMAP
Ressource.

This will instruct KMail to send the EXPUNGE command and you will get rid of
the greyed out messages.

Why you cannot tell kmail to not display messages marked as deleted is beyond
my understanding though. That should be standard.

Also, boo to the kmail developers, who failed to respond properly to this bug
report in weeks. And it is not the only report I noticed this behaviour. Is
there any active development in kmail?

As i understand from reading the source in templateparser.cpp this is actually
the desired behavior of the %OTIME and %OTIMELONG pattern. But somehow the
timezone information is passed either missing or passed incorrectly. I do not
see whether this is a problem with the KMime library, templateparser or
somewhere else in the kdepim infrastructure. Maybe it's Akonadi while providing
the message?

Someone with a working debug environment should look into it. I currently do
not have such a environment running.

[kmail2] [Bug 355195] date and time are ambiguous when replying to and forwarding messages (no timezone information)

2016-01-04 Thread Ben via KDE Bugzilla

I too ran accross this bug.
These bugs also seem to suffer from the same problem:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341909
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=308444

Steps to reproduce:
1. Find a mail in your inbox, that has a "Date:" header different from your
Local Timezone.
Local Timezone: CET
Mail with header "Date: Sun, 27 Dec 2015 15:20:55 -0800"

2. Create custom template for reply (or edit a default one):
TIME %TIME
DATE %DATE
DATEEN %DATEEN
TIMELONG %TIMELONG
TIMELONGEN %TIMELONGEN

OHEADER: %OHEADER="Date"
OTIME %OTIME
ODATE %ODATE
ODATEEN %ODATEEN
OTIMELONG %OTIMELONG
OTIMELONGEN %OTIMELONGEN

3. Reply to the mail with your custom template.

Actual Results:
TIME 00:36
DATE Dienstag, 5. Januar 2016
DATEEN Tuesday, 5 January 2016
TIMELONG 00:36:43 CET
TIMELONGEN 00:36:43 CET

OHEADER: Sun, 27 Dec 2015 15:20:55 -0800
OTIME 15:20
ODATE Sonntag, 27. Dezember 2015
ODATEEN Sunday, 27 December 2015
OTIMELONG 15:20:55 CET
OTIMELONGEN 15:20:55 CET

Expected Results (CET is UTC+1):
TIME 00:36
DATE Dienstag, 5. Januar 2016
DATEEN Tuesday, 5 January 2016
TIMELONG 00:36:43 CET
TIMELONGEN 00:36:43 CET

OHEADER: Sun, 27 Dec 2015 15:20:55 -0800
OTIME 00:20
ODATE Montag, 28. Dezember 2015
ODATEEN Monday, 28 December 2015
OTIMELONG 00:20:55 CET
OTIMELONGEN 00:20:55 CET

Also, there should be a template pattern family like %OTIMELONGUTC:
OHEADER: Sun, 27 Dec 2015 15:20:55 -0800
OTIMEUTC: 23:20
ODATEUTC Sunday, 27 December 2015
OTIMELONGUTC 23:20:55 UTC

The datetime is corretly displayed in the message list view. And the fancy
message header in the message view.

ownCloud Contacts thinks that this is not a bug in ownCloud but in KDE (and

Is there another reason, why your PROPFIND yields a 404 but gvds's PROPFIND

[Akonadi] [Bug 316840] New: imap resource starts crazy connect / disconnect cycle to mail server

2013-03-16 Thread Ben
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=316840

Bug ID: 316840
Summary: imap resource starts crazy connect / disconnect cycle
to mail server
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: Akonadi
   Version: 1.9.0
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: IMAP resource
  Assignee: er...@kde.org
  Reporter: b...@hewson-venieri.com
CC: kdepim-bugs@kde.org, vkra...@kde.org

To all outward appearances the imap connection is fine.
However after discovering the mail server was filling up its log partion I
discovered the following entries

Mar 16 11:26:12 vmail1 imapd-ssl: Connection, ip=[:::xx.xx.xx.x]
Mar 16 11:26:12 vmail1 imapd-ssl: Disconnected, ip=[:::xx.xx.xx.xx],
time=0, starttls=1
Mar 16 11:26:12 vmail1 imapd-ssl: Connection, ip=[:::xx.xx.xx.xx]
Mar 16 11:26:12 vmail1 imapd-ssl: Disconnected, ip=[:::xx.xx.xx.xx],
time=0, starttls=1
Mar 16 11:26:12 vmail1 imapd-ssl: Connection, ip=[:::xx.xx.xx.xx]
Mar 16 11:26:12 vmail1 imapd-ssl: Disconnected, ip=[:::xx.xx.xx.xx],
time=0, starttls=1

These are repeated at least 8-10 per second (from the same IP address), and
once started, don't seem to stop.
Removing the imap account from akonadi stops these messages.
Using Thunderbird on the same computer to connect to the same server is fine.
The mail server is running courier imap and I have not noticed this happen
before.
It looks like this started after a Kubuntu update - maybe to KDE 4.10.1, but I
can't be sure of this.
This is happening from two different computers, although both are running
Kubuntu KDE 4.10.1

When initially adding an imap account everything is fine. The crazy
connect/disconnects only start after a some minutes.
It doesn't appear to be related to the mail check interval. I have tried with
the default 5 minutes and at 1 minute.
With time interval of 1 minute the craziness starts after approximately 30
minutes. I haven't timed it with a 5 minute check interval, but at a guess it
was around a similar amount of time.

I have not yet tried with interval mail checking disabled to see if the same
thing happens, or if forcing a mail check from kmail can trigger this sooner.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
To see this you need access to mail server logs

1. setup an imap account
2. put a tail on mail server logs
3. after approximately 30 minutes, continuous connect/disconnects start

upon further testing even with interval mail checking turned off the same thing
happens.

I have had a closer look at the mail server log files and it appears to be
triggered after imap server logs a timeout message for the account.

(In reply to comment #2)
You can specify the identity that should be used when you reply to messages
in a folder. (Or set it on each account and make sure the Folder is set to
inherit from parent.) This is in the view with all the accounts and
 folders, right-click and properties.
However, there's bug 299270 which means that currently this does not work
 for many IMAP accounts.

Oh word, didn't know that existed. Thanks. I suppose the bug should be too
many of KMail's settings are hidden away and less than intuitive to find.

[Bug 277452] Akregator feed parser fails on gzip'ed XML

2011-10-11 Thread Ben Cooksley
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=277452

--- Comment #7 from Ben Cooksley bcooksley kde org 2011-10-11 09:03:20 ---
This is actually a Varnish bug (or a bug in our VCL for the Dot server) from
what I can tell. I have now tweaked it on the Dot server.

This isn't a Akregator bug - if the web server is sending it gzipped, it should
say so (and it isn't in this case).

Is it also disabled in RelWithDebInfo mode? If so, then it should be fine (and

--- Comment #9 from Ben Cooksley bcooksley kde org 2011-01-07 08:35:50 ---
The point in this case is that this debugging output cannot be disabled, which
is not optimal.

However, the application in question should be fixed. It is probably Plasma or
Akonadi doing this.

One of the most common embarrassments for email users around the world is
sending an email but forgetting to add important attachments. This leads to
rounds of polite but slightly reproachful other emails asking the sender to
re-send with the attachment, uncertainty on everyone's part that perhaps their
mail client messed up, and general confusion and waste of time and bandwidth.

To help reduce this problem, would it be possible to put pre-sending filters
into the composer component? This could check for phrases or words which
suggest that someone means to attach something, such as I've attached the ...
and if it thinks you meant to add an attachment, pop up a little warning
before sending. Naturally, add a prominent control to disable this helpful
feature, since it will annoy the pants off many users - but for others it may
save us from frequently looking like a dope in email to friends and colleagues.

[Bug 238375] New: Disable New Contact when no address book defined

Summary: Disable New Contact when no address book defined

Version: svn trunk from 2010-05-20 (using Devel)
Compiler: gcc
OS:Linux
Installed from:Compiled sources

Please disable the New Contact button when kaddressbook is unable to save a
contact.

I just started kaddressbook and it came up completely empty. No address books,
no contacts, no groups. I clicked New Contact and spent some time to enter
lots of details for my first contact. After pressing OK, I was prompted with an
address book to select where I wanted this contact to be saved. This dialog was
empty and didn't offer me to create an address book. I could only press Cancel,
and then my contact data was lost.

I think thats a rather frustrating bug.

Please disable the New Contact button when kaddressbook is unable to save a
contact.

After opening an email in a new window (e.g. by double clicking it) there seems
to be no way to search through the message. The Edit menu reveals only Copy.

However, the function exists, because if I don't open the message in a new
window, I can still access the Edit-Find In Message via the main window.
Interesting, no?

[Bug 220571] New: Crash (SIGABRT) after mailbox search and select

2009-12-29 Thread Ben Damm
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=220571

Summary: Crash (SIGABRT) after mailbox search and select
   Product: kontact
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
ReportedBy: bdamm-...@dammfine.com

Version:(using KDE 4.2.4)
OS:Linux
Installed from:Ubuntu Packages

To make this crash occur, I typed some text in the search bar above a mailbox
(my Inbox) and then selected one of the messages that appeared. It may be
noteworthy that 3 copies of the message appeared in the Inbox view, yet other
mail clients show only one.

Expected behaviour is to not crash. Furthermore, the ghost copies of emails is
quite annoying, but that's a different bug.

The crash resulted in the following backtrace:

[Bug 204515] crash when sending queued mail

--- Comment #6 from Ben Kreuter brk7bx virginia edu 2009-09-30 05:40:57 ---
Confirmed; closing all open wallets, then having another application open the
wallet, then sending mail from KMail results in a crash. The crash begins with
the composer window being deactivated but not closed; closing the composer
window causes the crash. It is possible to leave the window open, send the
mail by selecting send queued messages, and that will not cause the crash.

I have a contact with UTF-8 characters in their name. When I choose to use the
runner to send a message, it turns into two receivers in the composer.

Clicking from KAddressBook works. Is this an issue with the runner or KMail not
decoding the escaping from the runner correctly?

Version:(using KDE 4.3.0)
OS:Linux

I created a distribution list, and added some contacts to it. Now when I view
the All Contacts list, the ones I added to the new list appear twice.
Additionally, when I open one of the duplicates, all the fields are blank
except the contact's name and email. In each pair of original and duplicate
contacts in the list, the duplicate bogus one appears first. In this list
view, on each original contact, the email address field appears to be
vertically adjusted upwards, as if it had different line spacing; such that the
top half of the text is obscured by the email address of the item above it.

I'm not sure what triggered this crash exactly. The reporting assistant thinks
it's helpful, though, so here it is :) kio-http doesn't launch anymore, so I
had to enter it manually.

I think it is because I am on Ubuntu Jaunty, had the kubuntu-ppa backports
repository in my sources, and it recommended upgrading kontact from 4.2.4 to
4.3. I don't think it upgraded the rest of KDE, though, so that is probably
the cause, not an actual bug. Here's the report anyway in case I'm mistaken:

[Bug 203134] Opening tab in Akregator crashed

2009-08-09 Thread Ben Boeckel
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=203134

--- Comment #2 from Ben Boeckel MathStuf gmail com 2009-08-10 05:39:50 ---
Unfortunately, Akregator can be slow to open tabs, so I had clicked a few
before it crashed and I'm not sure which ones they were. I can look through the
feeds of times around the bug submission time for candidates.

I'll try to reproduce the crash tomorrow with the links I find in the candidate
articles.

Oxygen widgets.
