Reiter changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REPORTED|CONFIRMED Priority|NOR |HI Ever confirmed|0 |1 Severity|normal |major --- Comment #2 from Bernhard E. Reiter --- Hello, I can confirm that there is a defect with the configuration of Kmail2 in kontact-24.02.1-kf.236.3.x86_64 (which I have noticed after a move from Qt5 to Qt6 and thus Plasma5 to Plasma6 on GNU/Linux Opensuse Leap + Stable KDE repos.) I notice a long delay in opening the configuration dialog (like 8 seconds) then I often get dialogs about to confirm a change in the configuration (which does not make sense as I did not yet do a change). Additionally changes are not recorded, as I wanted to make the change that is shown here: https://wiki.gnupg.org/EMailClients/KMail and closing the dialogs for good, after I open them again, the change was lost. Once I've got a crash as well. I raise the priority because and email client where configuration cannot be done or is lost is hard to impossible to use. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[kmail2] [Bug 485308] New: Public keys for encryption will be shown as "bad" in the composer, even if they can be used for encryption
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485308 Bug ID: 485308 Summary: Public keys for encryption will be shown as "bad" in the composer, even if they can be used for encryption Classification: Applications Product: kmail2 Version: 5.24.2 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: crypto Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Reporter: bernh...@intevation.de Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 168332 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=168332=edit showing the composer and kleopatra displaying the problem Recipients that the user wants to encrypt to are shown as red while the"validity" of a corresponding public key is just "unknown". This is a regression from a previous version and inconsistent with the display of the same public key in Kleopatra. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Make sure to have an email address with a public key in GnuPG that is not fully "valid" for encryption. E.g. by calling `LANG=C gpg --locate-external-keys christoph.klas...@intevation.de` to get the pubkey via WKD, see something like `pub rsa3072/BA842B59E4A30D2F 2021-09-27 [SC] [expires: 2026-07-30] 978EE1FDE4F929229B3207CBBA842B59E4A30D2F uid [ unknown] Christoph Klassen sub rsa3072/11CD70D4D6223146 2021-09-27 [E] [expires: 2026-07-30]` 2. Open the composer, enter the email address. 3. Select "encrypt" 4. (optional) Send the email, and observe a dialog where you can okay the pubkey and encryption, showing that this can be done. 5. (optional) click on the icon to open Kleopatra and see that the pubkey has a validity of unknown. OBSERVED RESULT There is an icon shown left to the address that is a red square with a white cross. If you click on it, you see Kleopatra where there is a purple square with a white question mark. See kontact-24.02.1-pubkey-selection-problem-1.png EXPECTED RESULT As in previous versions the icon should be neutral to indicate that encryption is possible while there is not much trust that the pubkey belongs to the owner of the email address. (Ideally a pubkey fetched via WKD should have enough trust to allow encryption directly, because kmail does not know (yet?) that the pubkey has been fetched via WKD, it must chose an icon that stand for both situations, fully unknown and basic validity.) https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481024 --- Comment #25 from Bernhard E. Reiter --- > Any idea where this fundamental discussion about the change culture of KDE > should be started? [kontact] [Bug 481024] The loss of user-defined snoozing for calendar and todo reminders is a massive functional regression and actually a hard show-stopper for my kontact usage
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481024 --- Comment #10 from Bernhard E. Reiter --- I also find that the regression is a major one. (I've reported this in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452264 among other significant usability problems.). To add more use cases: ### saving working time shortly before a meeting * I have many meetings where the reminder is 15 minutes, so I can prepare. * When this is checked I delay up to 2 minutes before the appointment, * and then I have the remaining minutes to completely concentrate on something else until the alarm rings when I get up and walk to the meeting room. * This I gain 12-8 minutes of working time. ### using several computers * I have at least three computers with Kontact, that all sync their appontments (using the stone-old Kolab 2 format for historical reasons). * When working from home once a week, I have to click away all appointments that have been there since last starting kontact on this machine. (This is not a delay use case, but... I mention it because:) The old kontact/korgac saved the delay in the internal memory and did not sync it on the machine. A property what would really improve the situation would be to sync the fire time of reminders to the servers and thus also record a potential new delay . So in @Flossy Cat's use case a delay for 3 days or so would be in the backup and also working across synced machines. I am not sure if the current status of the iCalender format - which is often used nowadays - allows it. It might. ## User Interface What about if the desktop notifications bring up a special korganizer/kontact view that holds all fired alarms for appointments, tasks and so on with options that allow at least what the old overview did and a compact overview? Usually "decline" (and more so "Ablehnen") for an appointment would mean that I want to refuse to make the appointment, especially when this is a meeting in the Kalender this would potentially mean that I inform the others that I will not participate in the meeting. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=452264 --- Comment #17 from Bernhard E. Reiter --- Thanks Volker, for the additional background and explanation. So far I cannot say how others use the reminder functionality. And one difficulty of getting closer to this understand is that many important users will not run "beta" versions or freshly released ones, but are a few years down the line until their long term distribution will carry a new version. So feedback coming now will be skewed by this. My suggestion is to at least have an idea about what is continued to be supported and why. Personally my use case is in group (1) but I adjust the reminder according to the preparation time I need for different types of appointments. Then I sometimes use the delay of reminding me to get another few concentrated minutes. Example for meetings I invite people I usually have 15 minutes (which is a reminder they also get), then I can do preparations, like reading the protocol and agenda, shuffle my papers, open screens. Once I am say the reminder I may still have 11 minutes left, so I set the reminder to 9 minutes to be able to dive into another task. If I do not set the second reminder I may just dive up after 13 minutes, missing the start of the meeting. If I do not set the first reminder I maynot be prepared. On an appointment at my home I need to change and drive there, so I put the reminder to 30 minutes. For an appointment shortly after lunch, I set the reminder to 1 h, so to see it before lunch break. (This all are examples, but they all are a story about being reminded, not about task management as far as I understand it.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

My first aim is to understand which uses the old system had (in the wild) and which of those got lost in the technical transition. I lack the overview to estimate if the technical change is an improvement in the summary. All I can do is to describe the uses I was missing (on first) sight. Observed the change after the switch from the following version on an OpenSuse Leap system: 2022-03-05 10:14:39|install|kontact|21.12.3-lp153.178.1|x86_64||KDE-Applications|c862e0234bdd0804f08590d9ba921804c3d87307b0cfb745220f0ed19c18bf86| 2022-04-01 22:06:01|install|kontact|22.03.80-lp153.179.1|x86_64||KDE-Applications|a76922e914e46311d47fb104d28c8d731d9c7e781c1ff65ec98fc340af9975a0| STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. create a number appointments (with old kontact in my case) 2. wait until they were due, e.g. a few days 3. start system (with implicit starting akonadi) OBSERVED RESULT You get all past due reminders, each in its own little notification windows. The window does not show the date, so reminder from two days ago looks like it is taking place now. There is no button to dismiss all reminders. There is no overview of all reminders, if they do not fit in some are just not shown. EXPECTED RESULT The usability for overview and handling should be preserved or superceded. (If there is a possibility to configure the system to behave similiar or better, it should be the default.) Each reminder should display the data and make clear it is not today, when it isn't. Reiter <bernh...@intevation.de> --- @Denis, of course I appreciate your work in KDE and the issue tracker in particular, cleaning up is very important! I did ask, because your short comment did not explain the situation for me. My suggestion would be that you should link a more official statement. Your last statement reads like "4.14 KDEPIM" would be unmaintained. If this would be really the case I think we should notify all distributions about it. Getting 4.14 from Ubuntu, Debian or OpenSuse or any other GNU/Linux distribution is then just a security risk. [kleopatra] [Bug 363309] certificates signed through marginal trusted certificates are incorrectly displayed
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=363309 Bernhard E. Reiter <bernh...@intevation.de> changed: What|Removed |Added Status|UNCONFIRMED |CONFIRMED Ever confirmed|0 |1 --- Comment #2 from Bernhard E. Reiter <bernh...@intevation.de> --- Hi Andre, to me this is a clear defect in the current gui. The gui aims to be for power users (aka Bob and Annika in https://wiki.gnupg.org/EasyGpg2016/VisionAndStories ). And the GUI claims to help you manage the Web of Trust, which some power users still want to do. In the Web of Trust (and some other trust context) a trusted certificate comes with a strong indication that it belongs to the userid and is a base for trusting other certificates. A certificate that is marginally trusted should not fall in this category, at least it is missleading. The certificate in questions falls in the category "some trust" and when in doubt this meant: not enough trust. If a user starts to understand the WoT implementation of GnuPG, she will be surprised by the different behaviour of the kleopatra display and the GnuPG backend. If there is an easy fix, it probably should also be done on older product lines as long as they are still in usage. Best, Bernhard -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Because it is a functional degration without catering the use case differently I consider it a bug. Use case: Often the size of the text/html alternative part is very large compared to the text/plain part that contains all information. Reiter bernh...@intevation.de --- Also updated to akonadi Version: 1.7.50.20120604.gitdeec1f8deec1f-1maemo6.3 it turned out this was a problem related to the filesystem. I have synced a rather large account and thus I've moved the akonadi data store too the MyDocs partition which is vfat and larger as outlined in http://userbase.kde.org/Kontact_Touch/Harmattan#Additional_Notes While there is still space on the partition the error message by akonadi is: Insert: payload file /home/user/.local/share//akonadi/file_db_data/141229_r0 could not be open for writing! Error: No space left on device Turns out there are already a large number of files in that directory: ls|wc 32764 and there is a limit ~/MyDocs/akonadi/file_db_data $ touch x touch: x: No space left on device So the workaround seems to be that I need to tune akonadi to create less files in that directory. So I am refocussing this issuse towards: Problem description: A filesystem problem (cannot create new files) must be reported to the user by the frontend. [Bug 263018] Organizer Mobile uses emtpy VTIMEZONE section in invitations - breaking them
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=263018 --- Comment #18 from Bernhard E. Reiter bernhard intevation de 2011-02-24 16:34:54 --- Added a testscript for this here: http://kolab.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs-kolab.cgi/utils/testing/test-send-invitations-timezone.py Results: test1) invalid VCALENDER with TZID=Europe/Berlin, but missing the corresponding VTIMEZONE: OL 2003 cannot, it will display the event at the wrong time, assuming UTC without further notice. This ss a stricter rfc interpretation then OL 2007. OL 2007 can deal with it. Thus it interprets the name. (No idea how many names it knows, though.) test2 and test3) with TZID and good VTIMEZONE info (created by Kontact Touch N900 4:4.6~.20110211.1251.git9d81e94-1maemo1.1219908 carrige returns fixed manually) Both OL 2003 and OL 2007 can deal with it. One test included a repeated appointment accross one sometime change. test4) Repeating appointment in UTC (created by Kontact Touch CE being at the same time) OL 2003 will display and calculate it from the first appointment and adjust for the sommertime shift. So Kontact Touch and CE are displaying the same. OL 2007 will behave stricter towards the RFC and warn the user in the appointment that it repeats in GMT+0 having no timezone, displaying the GMT time! When accepting the appointments they are at the right time in UTC shown at two different times in Berlin/Europe. test5 test6) Both OL 2003 and OL 2007 can display single UTC events. Lifetime of tested Outlook versions (inquired at http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifeselectindex, can be longer according to http://support.microsoft.com/gp/lifepolicy) Outlook 2003 mainstream support ended 2009, extended support until Aug 2014 Outlook 2007 mainstream support until April 2012, extended s until April 2017 Conclusion: To be compatible with both versions of Outlook tested for recurrent events, we would need to send a proper VTIMEZONE with use of the TZID. It is okay to send VTIMEZONE with the use of TZID for singe instance events. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=263018 Bernhard E. Reiter bernh...@intevation.de changed: What|Removed |Added Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED Resolution|FIXED | --- Comment #17 from Bernhard E. Reiter bernhard intevation de 2011-02-15 12:21:13 --- @Tokoe: We did _not_ establish that Kontact Desktop e35 or Outlook is not correct. Uncorrect is the behaviour of Kontact Touch to use a TZID which is not defined properly as VTIMEZONE. (See my comment #14.) Re Comment #15: I have to correct myself about Outlook 2007 behaviour: My test was not conclusive, as floating time and correct time were the same. It could be that Outlook 2007 correctly interpets the TZID without VTIMEZONE as floating time. Note that as far as I have understood Kontact Touch on MS CE cannot create VTIMEZONE entries. If this is the case only Kontact Touch on CE must use UTC and we still have to decide about what other versions should do. If Outlook behaviour with TZID and VTIMEZONE is correct, then all versions of Kontact (that can) should create it, I'd say. According to #16 Kontact Touch still does not use UTC for recurrences. If so, code should be changed IMO to use UTC for recurrances on CE only.
