KTorrent was the only other application running. I started Kontact (PIM) and entered my KWallet password as usual. I tried re-starting Kontact but get this message: Kontact already seems to be running on another display on this machine. Running Kontact more than once can cause the loss of mail. You should not start Kontact unless you are sure that it is not already running. Now the Kontact application is very unstable and prone to frequent (lock-ups) crashes. At this point Akonadi stops and I usually have to reboot in order to re-start Kontact. I will try running the Kontact applications individually to see if they behave when not running as part of the Kontact suite,.
