Hi,

I get the same error using Kontact in version 4.12 (kubuntu backports on
12.04LTS).

I recentently upgraded to Kubuntu 14.04 beta:
KAddressbook Version 4.13 beta2
Using KDE Development Platform 4.12.90

Still the same. When I delete ~/.kde/share/apps/kaddressbook/viewertemplates/ ,
an empty folder is recreated when starting Kontact.

Then I started KAddressbook itself (not embedded in Kontact!) and... everything
just works. It also creates the empty folder but the contact info, QR etc is
shown.

Tried Kontact again, same error.

Nevermind, must be somehow profile-related. I tried the same from a fresh
useraccount and there everything works flawlessly.

This seems to be an old bug... still I experienced this today (4.12.2).

In my case, after moving utf-8 to the top of the list, mails were still sent
using the old settings until I restarted Kontact.

[Bug 255395] crash when opening mailbox

--- Comment #2 from Pascal Vandeputte bugskdeorg asmodeus be 2010-11-22

I'm on Kmail 1.13.5 now on KDE SC 4.5.1 (Kubuntu 10.10). I still run into it
from time to time, but it has become a lot harder to reproduce.

What I noticed today as well though, is that KMail reproducibly crashes with a
segfault on a specific mail message containing a winmail.dat attachment. A
couple of months ago I migrated my own company mail away from Exchange to Cyrus
IMAP using imapsync, so all mails older than April 2010 contain such an
attachment. Maybe it's related to this crash (that mail was still sitting in
inbox), maybe not. Maybe imapsync did some odd conversion causing an invalid
mail file.

Thunderbird and RoundCube can display the mail though, I've now moved it to an
archive folder, I'll update this bug if it still occurs.

If a version for KDE3 is what it takes to eventually get support for KDE4 out,
I'm all for it. In the end the KDE4 version may even turn out better because
of better knowledge about the pitfalls encountered doing KDE3 first.
(Disclaimer: I'm not familiar with the code)

Markus would like to see that any of this work would end up in a PIM branch
that still receives some loving after the project is finished, which does not
sound unreasonable. Let's keep the flames out and think about what we all
really want: an even better KMail experience.

Regards,

Pascal

Some time ago there was a pledgie for Krita which was highly successful:

http://krita.org/index.phpoption=com_contentid=20
http://pledgie.com/campaigns/7221

IIRC the money was collected up front, something I'd have more faith in
as well. A Paypal account was used.

Greetings,

Pascal

There are 2 things I perceive to be vital for KDE Kontact/KMail in the
enterprise:
 - editable HTML mail forwards replies
 - ability to work as an Exchange client, with full support for mail, contacts,
and appointments (IMAP only does mail, requires co-operation from the exchange
admin to enable it, and Exchange contacts nor calendar work) (and
frustratingly, my KMail IMAP sessions always get stale after a while)

Exchange support relies on getting OpenChange ready (See
http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/4107 ) and getting it fully integrated in
Akonadi which also isn't done yet.

Kontact/KMail will support Exchange thanks to Akonadi, so getting KMail ready
for that is certainly a task I wouldn't like to see Thomas or others others
being pulled away from.

What I think would make everybody happy:
 - If KMail could get HTML support with QTextEdit with reasonably little work,
that would be *fantastic* if you ask me. nothing fancy sounds way better than
absolutely nothing at all and then this wish/bug can be done away with. Fancy
stuff isn't necessary, as long as what should work, works without tarnishing
KMail's reputation by crashing or something like that
 - Next, the Akonadi skyscraper on 5th avenue without people on your back
moaning about bug 86423
 - Finally, once KMail/Akonadi is in maintenance mode, who knows if there's
now time for a WebKit composer?

Personally, I always have too much stuff to do. Some things take a week, some
take two months. But usually I have to multitask and as a result some tasks
take years to complete. Had I taken a week out for task 1, I'd have enjoyed the
fruits of that week while working on all the other stuff after that. Life just
isn't sequential.

In the end, it's all up to the devs. Thanks for all the effort put into this
fine and promising platform.
