folder properties/retrieval/automatically synchronize after: never.
Actually, the folders with lots of messages have use options from parent...
checked, and the parent (empty, only subfolders) has the setting described
above.

[Bug 301169] New: The bottom-right progress bar doesn't display progress

2012-06-04 Thread Szokovacs Robert
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=301169

Bug ID: 301169
  Severity: normal
   Version: unspecified
  Priority: NOR
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
Summary: The bottom-right progress bar doesn't display progress
Classification: Unclassified
OS: Linux
  Reporter: s...@szo.hu
  Hardware: Other
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Component: UI
   Product: kmail2

Kmail displays a progress bar on the bottom-right corner of the main window
when it's doing something. For example at startup, it syncs all the folders
(even when I ask it not to, but that's a different bug) and when an imap
account has lots of folders, it takes time. Some releases previously, this
progress bar reflected the progress of this syncing, now it only has two
states, 0% and 100%.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Do something that displays the progress bar
2. Observe the lack of progress

Actual Results:
The bar stays at 0 until finished.

Expected Results:
The progress bar should display the progress of the operation

I have hundreds of folders on my imap account, most of them seldom used. I set
those to never sync. Still, when starting, kmail insist on syncing all of them,
wasting time and cpu cycles, postponing the start of the usable period by
minutes.

Reproducible: Always

When displaying an email with an URL in it, kmail encodes the too many

Example:
The actual mail contains this:

In the mail are (as a link) displayed is this:

No, actually I didn't pick a good letter to show in the attachment, because
it's not quoted-printable. If it was (I will post a new screenshot if it's
necessary), it would show the encoded characters as well.

Some strange MUAs (lotus for example) sometimes fail to correctly specify the
content-type of the attachments in mail messages. In these cases kmail prompts
to the user to select the application. I think it would be better if in case of
application/octet-stream kmail would use the file-magic to discover the real
content type of the file and propose the associated application.

I see similar behavior, only worse: if I click on the search result, the folder
list selection is updated correctly, the message list is not. The message
preview pane is not updated at all, if the last selected folder was different
than the one we jump to, it becomes empty. If the last selected folder was the
same, the message view show only the header of the selected message, the body
is missing.

[Bug 117278] Overzealous paralelling in imap folder operations

In version 1.11.1 (KDE 4.2.1), this is still present. If I open detailed
progress window, the operation takes a lot more time than without it, which
pretty much defeats the purpose of the progress window, I think it is necessary
to have some optimalization there.
