[kmail2] [Bug 444901] New: Data loss following akonadi crash (possibly during package updates)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=444901 Bug ID: 444901 Summary: Data loss following akonadi crash (possibly during package updates) Product: kmail2 Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Reporter: dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com Target Milestone: --- I recently upgrade from kubuntu 20.04->21.04->21.10 Once at 21.10 everything seem to work fine (yesterday) but today a massive lot of updates were installed (not unexpected) however during these updates kmail stopped working. Once I got around to restarting kmail (it wouldn't restart) I discovered akonadi had crashed and would not start again. Much digging around later it seems it is because mysql will not start and much digging around later it looks like the data in db_data is corrupt. Specifically there is something wrong with ib_logfile0 and it seems to expect ib_logfile1 to be present but it isn't. So at this point I made a copy of this directory and trying loads of different stuff (found on the internet) nothing has fixed it. Deleting ib_logfile0 allows akonadi to start and I have my IMAP accounts but several years worth of mail in my local mail directories has been lost. I have no idea what has gone wrong. kmail crashed because akonadi crashed. Akonadi crashed during a big bunch of updates after upgrading from 21.04 to 21.10. Prior to the crash it appeared to be running fine on kubuntu 21.10. I do not know where to start with recovery of my mail or where the bug belongs or what the bug is only that akonadi borked during updates and it appears I've lost emails as a result. Obvs not easy to sort out but kmail/akonadi should be robust enough to facilitate easy recovery in this case. kmail 5.18.1 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[kmail2] [Bug 440150] kmail gets stuck "Updating item in inbox"
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=440150 davidblunkett changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED Resolution|--- |WORKSFORME --- Comment #2 from davidblunkett --- I think this is resolved for me but is probably still a bug but since I cannot reproduce it I'll close it. The solution appears to be to delete all the filters in kmail. I noticed that as well getting stuck there was an unfinishing filter agent action. When I investigated further this was a virus check where akonadi produce this message, "No such method dumpToString in any interface". In an attempt to get rid of this I disabled all filters onebyone, it remained the same, I deleted the filters one by one no change. I eventually deleted the filter agent using akonadiconsole and that fixed both the filter error _and_ the "updating inbox" hang. I cannot be certain that the filters were to blame or if this was fixed by some collateral effect of sorting out the filters. It remains a bug because it was not correct behaviour and not correctly represented and disabled the main function of kmail but it worksforme following this "fix" -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[kmail2] [Bug 439306] New: More gmail kmail failings
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439306 Bug ID: 439306 Summary: More gmail kmail failings Product: kmail2 Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: UI Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Reporter: dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com Target Milestone: --- v 5.13.3 So today kmail borked with gmail in a horribly familiar way, it just hung trying to sync the inbox only this time with a message in the status bar "trying to update an item" or similar. So begins the many rounds of restarting akonadi - no effect, restarting kmail - no effect, rebooting the computer - no effect. Provoking kmail to reauthenticate with gmail - back to the familiar problems, kmail is not a trusted browser so can't get in. So I resort to the "authenticate as plain" solution to this and modify my account but this does not fix the problem. Back to the next solution: add a parallel gmail account and this is where the new bug comes in: I need to add a gmail account and I need this to be "plain", I can bodge the wizard to make this happen and I can create the account and the account works BUT I cannot dismiss the wizard. I either have back or forward buttons but the finish button is never ungreyed. The cancel button works but this deletes my nice new working account. Not matter what I try I can only get to the point where I have a working account and an open wizard, any attempt to get rid of the wizard removes the account. The fix (if you can call it that) is to go through the process and then "kill -9 xxx" kmail and restart it. This gains the working account without the unwanted wizard. So... gmail authentication should work (but doesn't), plain authentication should be easy to set up (but isn't because kmail insists you want gmail authentication) and it should be able to add a non-functional account (which can be fixed later) but you can't because the only exit from the account set up is "cancel" (which removes things). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=426013 Bug ID: 426013 Summary: autocompletion on addresses is broken Product: kmail2 Version: 5.13.3 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: composer Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Reporter: dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com Target Milestone: --- Previously: You'd type an address and a menu of addresses would appear below which you could select if you liked. This list of addresses did not interfere with typing the address. In the present version: (1) If I try to select an address the list disappears as soon as I move the mouse - it is as if the widget was unfocussed between moving the mouse from the address box to the menu - it is impossible to select a suggested address. (2) If I type too fast (and this isn't very fast) there is a short delay while the autocompletion updates. This removes key presses from the address bar and the result is that only every other key press is recorded in the address bar (but the autocomplete menu gets all presses). So "hallo" becomes "hlo". If you type very slooowwwly it's all fine. Turning off all forms of autocompletion fixes (2) but is a PITA -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=404990 --- Comment #87 from davidblunkett --- Yet another comment moaning about the stale nature of this bug follows: I really don't understand why this has been allowed to fester for so long by the KDE developers. A capable email system is an essential component of a desktop system and that means working with key email providers (which gmail is). I realise there is an inelegant kludge to get around this problem but it comes at a cost of constant whinging from google about security and the kludge is not a fit way for regular lay users to use email. Leaving this to fester is sticking two fingers up to friendly computing and saying to non-technically savvy users "find a better OS". When they find a better OS, the critical mass for KDE will off and it will wither. That's a shame because I quite like KDE. This rant comes from me having to fix yet another lay users' kmail, spend an hour arsing around with kmail and akonadi, putting up with gmail's whinging etc. I think next time the answer will be a more cared for desktop. Lay users cannot be arsed with this and they will go elsewhere. Perhaps we shouldn't care but it seems sad if we don't. Replies that say "it's in google's hands" don't count, the rest of the world seems to be able to work it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[kmail2] [Bug 402792] New: Can't accept invite without sending confirmation e-mail
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=402792 Bug ID: 402792 Summary: Can't accept invite without sending confirmation e-mail Product: kmail2 Version: unspecified Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Reporter: dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com Target Milestone: --- ical invites cannot be accepted without replying! If I get a cal invite I get the following options: Accept:tentative:decline:counter proposal:delegate All of these send replies back (without asking). I see this as not useful and leaking sensitive information without permission. As things stand I have to "work offline", "accept" and delete the reply before it is sent as the way to extract the calender information without sending an unwanted reply. To add insult to injury the original email (with the invitation) then gets deleted (why?) Surely this can't be right? at the very least permission (do you want to reply?) should be sought and a way to extract the calender information should be offered. Ideally the default behaviour should be settable so that I can handle these requests without leaking sensitive information or spamming up the world. FWIW looks like this has been here before Ref: Bug 106595 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

This is a ridiculous state of affairs - a major flavour of linux's flagship email system cannot receive email, numerous bug reports and apparently SFA going on. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=387618 davidblunkett <dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com> changed: What|Removed |Added Resolution|WONTFIX |--- Status|RESOLVED|UNCONFIRMED --- Comment #2 from davidblunkett <dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com> --- This is nonsensical -I understand that unspecific keys are not very useful but that is an issue for the user and shouldn't be enforced by the interface. I need to do a 2 letter search that will uniquely identify 3 emails out of 1000 but this is blocked whereas there there are lots of longer strings that will be found in every single email yet these are allowed. This is a poor policy and should be removed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

There is a line between the message list and message pane that can be used to resize or redivide the space between the two. It's invisible and tiny ~1px it is a bugger to find. It would be nice if it were visible and big enough to use without having to spend a lot of time finding it. I guess this may be the fault of some other component - the desktop theme or a missing fine tune control but, for me, the only time I encounter this problem is with kmail. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
[korganizer] [Bug 374803] How to change start of the week from Monday to Sunday?
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=374803 --- Comment #2 from davidblunkett <dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com> --- The problem is that (a) there is no setting for day of the week in the regional setting and (b) I'd like to switch the start of the week to different views without changing the locale each time. The start of the week and the locale obey different rules - the start of the week is a personal / context preference that needs to be set easily in korganizer and the locale is a set of default for the system which cannot be easily changed or overridden. This should be user defined in korganizer - there is nothing wrong with inheriting a system default so long as it can be easily changed. Go into systemsettings, select Regional Settings, then Formats and from there you can change your Region. (or "locale") You'd have to change to a Region that has Sunday as the first day of the week. The US has that. In Summary: KOrganizer no longer has any control over this setting. another option is to set your environment variable LC_TIME to en_US.UTF-8 -- You are receiving this mail because: You reported the bug. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[kmail2] [Bug 375791] New: Changing sort field in message list loses position
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375791 Bug ID: 375791 Summary: Changing sort field in message list loses position Product: kmail2 Version: 5.2.3 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: message list Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Reporter: dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com Target Milestone: --- In "flat date view" (not sure about others) if I view an email and then press one of the fields to sort (ie I originally sort by date and I choose sort by subject) then I end up viewing a different email. What should happen is I should still view the email before I changed sort key. As an example, I sort by date to find an email sent on 25/12/16 with the subject aardvarks. Then I click on "subject" to sort by subject and I should still be viewing the same email subject "aardvarks" sent on the 25/12/16 only this time all the emails with the subject "aardvarks" would now be adjacent in the message list. What happens is I get and email about car hire which is ~1/2 down the list and have to refind the aardvarks thread. Strangely the email that I warp to always stays the same, regardless of which way I change the sort. The only email that I don't warp away from when changing the sort field is the one it warps to. This behaviour is very counter-intuitive and very annoying! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[Akonadi] [Bug 338571] Performance Regression: Folder synchronisation in Akonadi 16.08 (actually in any release, starting with KDE 4.14) very slow, compared to kMail from KDE 4.13.x
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338571 davidblunkett <dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com> changed: What|Removed |Added CC||dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com --- Comment #32 from davidblunkett <dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com> --- I'm not sure if this is the issue I have but since switching from kubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 kmail has become extremely slow retrieving emails - it seems to cache a couple but beyond that seems to be constantly going back to the imap server to grab things it has grabbed just two minutes ago - I'm now spending far more time looking at a blank pane show "retrieving folder contents" than actually doing anything. IIRC in the previous version I might have a small delay while a big email was downloaded for the first time but everything was pretty snappy after that. As an example - I'm currently trying to view an email I looked at an hour ago - it still hasn't been shown and I started this bug report I started waiting. [kmail2] [Bug 334409] Drag and drop to a shell doesn't work for multiple files
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334409 --- Comment #4 from davidblunkett <dav1dblunk...@hotmail.com> --- I think this bug (can't dnd multiple attachments) will remain once the current issue of broken attachments is fixed. I think the broken attachments is known (I don't know the bug #) and fixed upstream. I can't vouch for any of this one way or the other at the moment. At the moment: I can't dnd any files multiple or single I can't see any files inline D+D of files is a long established feature so i think it remains a valid bug. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
