Yes, I recompiled the package 'kmail-24.02.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst' and
installed it. kmail no longer crashes in the above described scenario.

Thank you for this simple resolution and regards.

[korganizer] [Bug 475679] Search shows no results

2023-11-13 Thread nmset
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475679

Search is working since

korganizer Version 5.24.3 (23.08.3)

Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.9
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.111.0
Qt Version: 5.15.11
Kernel Version: 6.6.1-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

When it failed, the criteria was always searched in the title of calendar
events.

It's working since my last update this weekend.

Thanks for considering.

Yes, the issue remains constant over successive KDE iterations, currently :

KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.99.0
Qt Version: 5.15.6
Kernel Version: 6.0.2-arch1-1 (64-bit)

Now it's not a fundamental issue obviously, closing and restarting is cheap.

Thanks for considering.

[korganizer] [Bug 341080] DBus interface : default calendar not selected for new event

2022-04-11 Thread nmset
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=341080

(In reply to gjditchfield from comment #4)
> Does this problem still affect you?

1. Using either the UI, dbus-send (without --print-reply), qdbusviewer or
qdbus, the new event dialog selects the calendar currently selected in the list
of available calendars. That's probably the intended workflow.

The confusion arises with the proposed 'Default calendar'; what would be its
meaning and intent ? Remote calls via DBus are meant for automation, and there
is no DBus function exposed to select a specific calendar in the UI, or I
missed it. Perhaps, the menu item 'Choose as default calendar' should be better
documented, or removed, or DBus functions exposed to list available calendars
and either select one in UI, or pass it to 'openEventEditor'.

2. I don't remember how and why I was needing this automation pathway in 2014,
and I have not been looking for alternatives. Meaning, it was for an unknown
annoying situation at that time. Given that no one else needs this, current
'bug' is not really a bug and can be closed definitely.

Regards.

[knotes] [Bug 409302] knotes has no akonadi collection table, could be the primary cause of failure

2019-06-30 Thread nmset
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409302

This is a general akonadi failure with newer mariadb version 10.4.6. This fix
from Arch's forum gives a usable akonadi server, though knotes itself is not
immediately usable on a new account :

> # mysql --socket=/tmp/akonadi-USERID.XX/mysql.socket -e 'create database
> mysql'
> # mysql_upgrade --socket=/tmp/akonadi-USERID.XX/mysql.socket
> # akonadictl restart

Let's hope akonadi devs come around this issue.

After KDE login, knotes does not list any notes. This happens very frequently
but not always. The account has to be restarted
(configure/collections/account), knotes closed and launched again. This happens
whether knotes is started as a panel widget or in kontact.

Using :
knotes 15.08.0
KDE Frameworks 5.13.0
Qt 5.5.0 (built against 5.5.0)
The xcb windowing system

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start KDE
2.Start knotes
3.

Actual Results:
Often no notes, or not all notes.

Expected Results:
All notes available.

There's only on single knotes collection in $HOME/.local/share/notes/ .

nothing. I can create and delete a folder and these steps can be viewed on the

(In reply to comment #67)
Just one more note, of course disable kmail options - security - disable
 load
external refrerences from internet. fix the problem.

True, I even gossip that developpers should never have yielded to the wish of
ordinary users who love those tons of eye candies we see in HTML pages.

However, they would prefer drop the product for anything else that accomplish
their needs, like dropping Fedora 16 for some older distro with kmail 4.4 !
kmail is already embarked since long in rendering HTML inline, so kmail2 has to
be efficient in what it has been doing rightly before.

I'm no expert of Qt, it seems that Qt 4.8 relies heavily on QtWebkit 2.0 which
is quite young and manages itself a network caching mechanism. KDE seems to
have an older autonomous http caching API, and these two are perhaps in
competitive play. This is just a guess, I don't argue it's the truth. Only
expert KDE developpers can resolve this problem in my view, perhaps by better
integrating recent changes in the Qt framework.

For me, disabling the http cache in konqueror works perfectly : on one host
with standard Fedora 16, on another host with Debian squeeze and a self
compiled Qt 4.8 and a self compiled KDE 4.8.

Cheers !

--- Comment #62 from nmset nmset netcourrier com 2012-01-28 19:58:39 ---
Looking at the code in qnetworkaccesshttpbackend.cpp:827, the crash seems
related to cached http data being accessed.

So I tried to disable completely the cache in konqueror settings and I could
not reproduce the crash with these html mails (with automatic download of
external references set to true in kmail2's settings).

The http cache can be used in 3 modes and all these 3 modes constantly
reproduce kmail2's crash. It may happen on first selection of an html email, or
on n'th selection of the same html email in a single kmail2's session.

qnetworkaccesshttpbackend.cpp lies deeply in QT. If the problem was there, we
would expect konqueror to crash when the cache is turned on, bu this never
happens. It seems to be related to some way kmail2 interacts with the html
cache.

All this if other users can confirm that disabling the http cache really
prevents kmail2 from crashing on these futile http mails !

Regards.
