This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been
unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still
present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0
or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about
three months.

Not sure that kmail2 is worth fixing unless the fatal dependency on akonadi is
removed. I suspect akonadi is the culprit - not sure if it has any benefits at
all. So for those who need a quick resolution to this bug, I found the
following fix:
- I reverted to kdepim v3.5.10 - this provides kmail without any akonadi
dependency
- Remove akonadi-runtime; it will also require that kdepim4 goes with
associated kmail, kalarm, etc.

Pity, kmail2 had such promise
