[kmail2] [Bug 315207] New: Save attachments... command not easily discoverable

2013-02-15 Thread Michael D
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=315207

Bug ID: 315207
Summary: Save attachments... command not easily discoverable
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.10
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: commands and actions
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: nortex...@gmail.com

The save attachments... (for saving all attachments) command is not easily
discoverable. It does not appear on the menu when right-clicking the message,
nor in the main menu when viewing the message. The only way to access it is by
right clicking within the message itself.

As a personal anectdote, it took me a while to figure it out.

Reproducible: Always

[kmail2] [Bug 323102] New: Translate function doesn't always work

2013-08-02 Thread Michael D
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=323102

Bug ID: 323102
Summary: Translate function doesn't always work
Classification: Unclassified
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.10.5
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: nortex...@gmail.com

Often (but not always) when selecting some text within a message (in either the
preview pane or the message in its own window), right clicking it and clicking
Translate..., the selection is not translated. Changing the language to a
specific one or to Detect language and then clicking the Translate button
likely has no effect at this point.

Sometimes the translate function works, but I cannot find any recognizable
pattern as to when it does/doesn't work.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select text within a message to translate
2. Right click the selection and then click Translate...
3. Ensure the appropriate language is selected from the dropdown
Actual Results:
Often the selection is not translated

Expected Results:
The selection is always translated

I tried the following text:

Met dank voor de meer dan prettige samenwerking

with from language being Detect language and to language being English.
When selecting Dutch as the from language specifically just now, it correctly
translated the text. Often nothing happens.

I just tried another (longer) chunk of text with the from language on Dutch
and the to language English. It didn't translate. When selecting Detect
language as the from language, it correctly translated it.

2015-02-23 Thread Michael D

Bug ID: 344474
Summary: Kmail exposes password through notification if smtp

   Product: kmail2
   Version: 4.14.1
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: nortex...@gmail.com

I accidentally put my smtp server in the format ser...@smtp.de instead of
server.smtp.de and when trying to send an email a notification pops up
exposing my password in plain text. The notification titled E-mail Sending
Failed starts Failed to transport message. smtp://account
name:password@:port... I have checked the setting to store SMTP password.

This obviously presents a significant security concern.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Enter wrong smtp server (perhaps in a particular format as described above?)
in settings
2. Send an email from that server/account, with the store password setting
checked

Actual Results:
An error message pops up exposing password

Expected Results:
The error message only says that the email failed to send, and this is
presented in a *readable* format.

[kmail2] [Bug 353849] New: Find highlighting/selection uses its own (hardcoded?) color, which present usability issues

2015-10-13 Thread Michael D
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=353849

Bug ID: 353849
Summary: Find highlighting/selection uses its own (hardcoded?)
color, which present usability issues
   Product: kmail2
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: nortex...@gmail.com

I'm using the Breeze Dark color scheme (white text on black background). When I
double click a word in a message, the background highlighting color is correct:
white text with blue background. When I find a string in a message, the text is
white but the background color is dark blue, which makes it near impossible to
see. When I click "Highlight all matches" in the options, it gets worse: white
text with bright yellow background! Basically illegible.

Is it possible to have the find colors adopt what is provided by the global
color scheme? Or if they need to be hardcoded, hardcode both background *and*
text color so the contrast comes out correct.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Change to global dark color scheme, like Breeze Dark.
2. Restart/open Kmail2
3. Open a message
4. Find a string

Actual Results:
The found string has a custom highlighting color (perhaps just for background
color).

Expected Results:
The found string has the highlighting color as set by the global color scheme
(for breeze dark: #3daee9)

Thanks for the bug links. I've enabled "Download all messages for offline use"
on all my computers now because the performance difference is night and day.
What isn't clear is whether that means it will download messages from every
subscribed imap folder (including my huge "All Mail" folders in gmail), or just
the inbox. Does anyone know?

I have the same problem on KDE Neon User Edition, Kmail2 5.4.1. I notice the
plugin settings section, there is no filter plugin. I also noticed that going
to Settings --> Configure Filters shows some filter, "", that gets
created even after I delete it. If one deletes it, the filter agent progress
shows 100%. So that fixes it, except there is something that keeps creating
this annoying filter.

[kmail2] [Bug 382987] New: Poor color contrast for unread messages

Bug ID: 382987
Summary: Poor color contrast for unread messages
   Product: kmail2
   Version: 5.5.2
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: message list
  Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org
  Reporter: nortex...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

The unread message foreground or font color with the default Breeze theme (a
blue) is the color for "active", which is #3daee9. It is often over a gray
background, i.e. #eff0f1. The contrast of this combination is a lowly 2.18:1
which even miserably fails the WCAG AA minimum contrast requirement. With
active on a white background (#fcfcfc) the ratio is still a horrible 2.43:1.

I highly recommend improving the contrast here. Some possible suggestions:

1. Use a color that gives better contrast ratio, such as the color for "link",
2. Or better, use boldface type for unread messages.

By default (with Breeze color scheme) and important message is marked red. If
you select it, it becomes background is blue and text is white, which is
exactly the same as a selected unimportant message. This makes it impossible to
tell (with the classical theme at least) whether a highlighted message is
marked as important.

I don't know if this is the fault of kmail or the color scheme, but surely
there should be a visible difference when selecting/highlighting different
color text.

akonadictl restart log

KMail used to be more or less resume gracefully from suspend, but now it stops
fetching imap messages (two gmail accounts, one outlook account). I have to run
"akonadictl restart" to get it working again.

Attached is a dump from the terminal after running "akonadictl restart". If
helpful, I also have a bunch of logs I generated using "export
KIMAP_LOGFILE=/tmp/imap.log".

I had this happen after resuming from suspend sometimes, but now it's happening
much more frequently, to the point of being unusable. Running "akonadictl
restart" fixes it, but only temporarily.

I'm running kmail2 5.6.3.

Google calendar indicates a difference between all day events and events that
take place at a specific time by color in the all day events as KOrganizer does
by default to all events, and using a colored circle next to the event name for
those that take place at a specific time. I find this very useful information
in distinguishing these two different kinds of events and it would be nice if
it were implemented in KOrganizer's month view.

I think a better solution to this problem is to use a different font style for
unread and todo messages, as I proposed in bug 382987 because of poor color
contrast. If unread messages are listed in bold, and todo in italics, for
instance, there would be no issue concerning color precedence. An unread,
important, todo message would be bold, italic, and red (according to
Alexandre's color scheme).

In my opinion, one should *always* be able to tell at a glance how a message is
marked, and the only way to do this is to use font style instead over color.

I haven't had a problem distinguishing bold/italics from normal style, even
when quickly scanning the mail list. Thunderbird uses bold for unread messages.
Italics might be harder to distinguish, though I've no problem with it, but I
think the compromise is worth it--sometimes you want to mark something both as
important and an action item, and it would be odd if you could not see that at
a glance but would have to infer it somehow else.

I have a number of email accounts so that when reading an email it is easy to
lose track of which account it's from. I have to glance at the folder list and
ensure the top folder (which account name) is shown to confirm the account. To
make things easier, it would be nice if a custom header theme could be used per
account, e.g. a blue background one personal and green background one work.

I suppose this would make more sense if a number of variations on a theme were
provided, such as fancy headers, or if there were some configuration settings
where one could choose the background color of a particular header theme to
allow minimal customization.

It would be nice to have an option to hide the navigation bar on the right side
since it takes up a lot of space for only a few buttons, and those buttons can
be placed in the standard toolbar anyway.

Indeed, it makes more sense to completely remove the right navigation bar and
put back/forward buttons in the standard toolbar where the rest of the buttons
lie and hence where the user would naturally gravitate for navigation controls.

I just noticed that if you click the "Display calendar in a full window" in the
navigation bar, it puts month/year navigation buttons/arrows at the top of the
calendar, along with clickable month/year names for quick navigation. Why not
have that always shown and remove the navigation bar?

By working, I mean event fetching only. Obviously contacts don't sync which
affects kaddressbook and kmail. Should a separate bug be filed about this?

Same issue on Manjaro testing. I've tried removing and adding the calendar to
no avail. Calendars don't show in korganizer, kalendar, or the pim plug-in for
the digital clock, so it's not really a korganizer bug, but seems an akonadi
bug.

I have three accounts, two gmail and one outlook, and three identities for each
of these accounts. When I reply to an email in my gmail accounts, the correct
identity (hence smtp account) is chosen. However, incorrectly the default
identity is selected when replying to mail in my Outlook account. I therefore
have to manually select the correct identity when replying to Outlook emails.

Donovan, you do know you can access the address book by simply clicking the
"Select" button next to the "To/CC/BCC" field and then searching for your
contact that way?

You can also just open kaddressbook, find your contact there, and click their
email address.

It's mildly inconvenient, especially in today's age, but come on, it's not like
it prevents people from working (though it may add up to 3 minutes more to your
work day).

This bug has been around for ages. This problem only affects the view "as
list", and not "as icons". For some reason, the "as list" view does not adopt
what is set by the system-wide color scheme. (There are other elements of kmail
that do the same, but that's for another bug report.)

Recent addresses sort of work. Type in the recepient field (To, BCC, etc.) and
then backspace to the beginning. Then type again and recents will show up. I
suppose this qualifies as part of this bug.
