[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1273386] Re: Neutron namespace metadata proxy triggers kernel crash on Ubuntu 12.04/3.2 kernel
Adding some notes here which we gathered by talking to James Page who in turn was talking to forgotwho... One thing to get hold of is real crashdumps. But those will be relatively big and Chris is currently trying to see whether we can trigger this on a devstack environment. From what I understand, when forcing the config drive off, the process preparing the image (which I assume runs in its own namespace) will mount the image just before providing it to the guest and write some config data directly into the image. So this makes the namespace of that process have modified mount information and that might be our problem. Not sure there is also some timing side to it or whether it only depends on doing these steps. But at least this gets us ahead in understanding what goes on (and why it would happen more frequently just now). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1273386 Title: Neutron namespace metadata proxy triggers kernel crash on Ubuntu 12.04/3.2 kernel Status in OpenStack Neutron (virtual network service): Triaged Status in OpenStack Compute (Nova): New Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: In the past 9 days we have been seeing very frequent occurences of this kernel crash: http://paste.openstack.org/show/61869/ Even if the particular crash pasted here is triggered by dnsmasq, in almost all cases the crash is actually triggered by the neutron metada proxy. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1274908] [NEW] Consider adding a 'semi automatic' audio change switch to HDMI input.
Public bug reported: I've read the various discussions about this, but they seem to fail to take account of the fact that the user knows what he/she wants. I had the common use-case where I want audio to automatically be enabled for the hdmi when I plug the cable in. Note that I don't want that decision to be made for me, but I am quite happy to toggle a switch to say that is, indeed, what I want. So, for example : 0) I want to watch something on my laptop displayed on my TV 1) I plug in the HDMI cable 1a) but no audio..what's wrong?...I do a quick search on the internet and/or stumble on the 'Sound settings' and see an HDMI entry 2) I click on HDMI 2a) yeah! sound! nice! 3) watch something 4) unplug HDMI device 4a) audio reverts to laptop's built-in speakers 5) the next day, I decide I want to watch something else 6) go to 0) 7) I now wonder why, at point 2a), there can't be a switch that I can toggle to make it do this every time I plug in the HDMI cable. Since the audio is actually switched, and there is something happening in the tool to make the 'HDMI' entry appear, I don't see why there can't be a switch to make it switch the audio automatically when it is connected. Note that I *don't* mean that something has to automatically decide for every user if this should happen, but each individual user surely already knows if they do want this (or not) and can tell the tool which way it should be (and save the setting, of course). ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1274908 Title: Consider adding a 'semi automatic' audio change switch to HDMI input. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1274641] Re: 64bit linux on gigabyte motherboards - IOMMU issue?
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.13 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance. Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have a gigabyte GA-970A-DSP3 motherboard, and everything works fine with 32bit Kubuntu 13.10 After installing 64bit, the USB2 ports on the motherboard didn't work, however the USB3 ports did work. The ethernet (motherboard) and wireless (PCI card) wouldn't connect. They would recognize that the ethernet was plugged in, and detect any wireless networks, but wouldn't connect to them. One fix I found for this was to set IOMMU to enabled in the bios, then the USB2 ports, ethernet and wireless worked fine, but the USB3 ports stopped working. Other callers to __sys_recvmmsg properly copy from userland to the kernel first. The impact is a sort of arbitrary kernel write-where-what primitive by unprivileged users where the to-be-written area must contain valid timespec data initially (the first 64 bit long field must be positive and the second one must be 1G). The bug was introduced by commit http://git.kernel.org/linus/ee4fa23c4b (other uses of COMPAT_USE_64BIT_TIME seem fine) and should affect all kernels since 3.4 (and perhaps vendor kernels if they backported x32 support along with this code). Note that CONFIG_X86_X32_ABI gets enabled at build time and only if CONFIG_X86_X32 is enabled and ld can build x32 executables. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1218973] Re: [Dell XPS 12-9Q33] Touchpad not recognized
I'm trying to get this patch working on Gentoo with a vanilla kernel, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what kernel modules are supposed to be loaded to make this work... (the patch applies nicely on 3.12-kernels, testing this on 3.12.9...) Should i2c-hid be loaded? What about hid_multitouch? i2c_designware_platform/core? Do I need any special synaptics driver within Xorg? Currently having xf86-input-synaptics and xf86-input-evdev installed... Are there some kernel options I need to know about? Replicated the CONFIG_RMI4_* options so they look the same as your patch, no dice... (as in, rmi_hid as module, core,control,fwlib,i2c,f11 and virtual_button is built-in) rmi_hid gets autoloaded during boot, so something seems to work.. Do you think you could paste xinput details, lsmod and such? This feature allows an administrator to copy a file from host to guest without using the network. The feature does not restrict the contents or the location of data that is being copied in to the VM. The feature has both a driver and a daemon and the daemon acts as root while copying out the data. The full fix is about to come and is under discussion. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1256923] Re: LuksOpen failed on boot after kernel upgrade
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1256923 Title: LuksOpen failed on boot after kernel upgrade Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: immediately following an upgrade to 3.11.0-14.21(saucy/proposed) it appeared that the AES module required to unlock my luks encrypted volume for /home was not available on boot. It was strange, as I had executed apt-get upgrade, but when I returned to my console minutes later, the system appeared to have rebooted and was prompting (as it normally would on boot) for my passphrase to unlock my home directory. The console, on boot, displayed an 'unknown type' after authentication for crypt_luks, and the console option (Skip or Manual) was only presented and available very briefly after the first authentication prompt. Even with valid credentials, subsequent re-prompts appeared and failed with the same error. After another reboot, I authenticated, quickly hit M (to break into conole) and was able to get into the console with a working system with partitions (/, var, etc) mounted except that /boot was not mounted and my encrypted /home was not mounted. I was able to mount boot (giving me access to grub.conf), but was unable to unlock my crypted home directory using cryptsetup from the command line. cryptysetup luksopen did however complain the module for AES was not loaded. Modprobe did not find the module requested. I didn't waste too much more time as I need this system for work, and quickly just replaced 3.11.0-14 with 3.11.0-13 in my grub.conf and I was back up and running after a reboot. A quick check on apt after the reboot revealed no half-installed kernels or packages of any kind (which was my first guess as to root cause). If I get some time later this week, I may try and reinstall the latest kernel to capture more info. When I plug in my Dell laptop (Inspiron N4010) with its integrated Intel graphics, I am unable to get the image to display correctly -- it appears cropped, with several percent of the top, bottom, left, and right missing -- I can't see the left-hand launch bar or the top menu bar on the screen. This HDTV displays correctly under Windows. I haven't been able to find any underscan/overscan setting for the display driver, either through xrandr or the Gnome display settings screen. This is something that should more or less just work. I have fought this problem periodically since I bought the laptop in 2010, but the situation has stayed about the same each time I have tried. This appears to be a fairly long-standing issue, and from my searching around, I suspect there may be a common root cause among Intel, nVidia, and ATI graphics devices. lsb_release -rd: Description: Ubuntu 13.04 Release: 13.04 /proc/version_signature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-33.48-generic 3.8.13.11 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1256134/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1198610] Re: Black screen while trying to disconnect from Bluetooth DUN connection
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1198610 Title: Black screen while trying to disconnect from Bluetooth DUN connection Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Hello. The release of Ubuntu I am using: Ubuntu 13.04 The version of the package I am using: 0.9.8.0-0ubuntu6 I am using a Dell Inspiron 5520 laptop. And in order to connect to the Internet, I use my Samsung SGH-L700 phone as a Bluetooth modem. When I try to connect to the Internet via Bluetooth DUN connection using Network Manager applet, there is usually no problem. But when I try to disconnect, What I expect to happen: The connection should be terminated and the system should go on working normally. What happens instead: Suddenly, a black screen with full of text comes up. Sometimes (not always) a panic occurred message with a blinking Caps Lock light can be seen. Additionally, after establishing the connection, the name of the connection isn't viewed on the applet's drop-down menu as it should be. Sometimes there is a strange character, sometimes the text Empty tag, sometimes a text that is not about the connection's name such as org.freedesktop. ... or Connect to a Wi-Fi _network is seen instead of the name. Before reporting this bug, I opened a topic on Ubuntu Turkey Forum. A forum moderator recommended me to file a bug report about network- manager package on Launchpad. So I filed a report here. This is my first bug report. Thanks for possible solutions in advance. This feature allows an administrator to copy a file from host to guest without using the network. The feature does not restrict the contents or the location of data that is being copied in to the VM. The feature has both a driver and a daemon and the daemon acts as root while copying out the data. The full fix is about to come and is under discussion. The last update can be seen in the following thread https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/1/14/470 Further information regarding use is available here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn464282.aspx Please let me know if you need further information. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1123943] Re: Chrontel CH7036 chip not supported
A few days ago there was a post of a different workaround: Installing the Chrontel Ch7036/HDMI - Output on Ubuntu http://lackofalucidmind-en.blogspot.de/2014/01/hdmi-output.html I tried following the instruction myself and to my surprise once the executable is launched (/usr/sbin/ch7036_start) it turns off my HDMI which was originally on (I had rebooted to Windows and had turned it on, and rebooted to Linux while it is still on). Perhaps that's because I am not using a chrome book. I used an x86-64 tablet, bModo 12, designed for Windows 7. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1123943 Title: Chrontel CH7036 chip not supported Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: I'm running a WeTab with ubuntu and the ch7036 chip is not supported.
