[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1357748] Re: Putting thermald into recommends
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1357748 Title: Putting thermald into recommends Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 dev with linux-image-generic 3.16.0.9.10. Currently linux-image-generic depends on thermald but in my opinion thermald should not be a dependency as computers are normally providing their own cooling control on hardware level. thermald might be a nice enhancement but I think it would be better to move it from a dependency to a recommendation. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1272777] Re: Elantech touchpads not fully supported for some Gigabyte laptops
Just in case someone experience the same issue than me (or probably same than Dave earlier too), i.e. the touchpad is recognized by the new kernel, but then stops working again... I installed 3.16-1 and the problem persisted. However, I just realized that I still had some psmouse dkms module installed from a previous try at fixing the issue. I just ran: quote sudo dkms remove -m psmouse -v elantech-x551c --all sudo rmmod psmouse sudo modprobe psmouse/quote And the scrolling is miraculously back! Let's just hope it persists after reboot. No one else has complained in a while... maybe this bug should be tagged as fixed? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272777 Title: Elantech touchpads not fully supported for some Gigabyte laptops Status in The Linux Kernel: Unknown Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This bug report is in addition to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1166442 - the fixes suggested there (which work for others) have been tried but do not work for a small subset of laptops, particularly the Gigabyte U2442 series. Description of the situation for my Gigabyte U2442V most recently running 3.11.0-12-generic on Linux Mint. I tried the updated module mentioned in the above bug report (1166442). It compiles and it detects an Elantech trackpad of *indeterminate version*. I get this in dmesg: [859697.496141] psmouse serio1: elantech: assuming hardware version 3 (with firmware version 0x450f01) [859697.526011] psmouse serio1: elantech: Synaptics capabilities query result 0x58, 0x17, 0x0c. [859697.765917] psmouse serio1: elantech: retrying ps2 command 0x0b (2). [859698.470556] psmouse serio1: elantech: retrying ps2 command 0x0b (1). I get no Synaptics driver functionality, and only basic touchpad behaviour (motion and tap-to-click for left click, no scroll or disabling the pad when typing, etc.). It seems I don't have a v9 or v10 trackpad, I've never been able to get a definitive indication of which version I have got. The only thing that has remedied this problem for me in the past was the one described in the original bug report (for elantech-v6 - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/681904/comments/64)... but it no longer applies to newer kernels... With the 3.11.0-12-generic kernel, my Touchpad *is* detected, i.e. xinput shows: ↳ PS/2 Elantech Touchpad id=16 [slave pointer (2)] and dmesg shows: input: PS/2 Elantech Touchpad as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input14 There are no useful touchpads settings evident in the normal Cinnamon settings utility (gnome-control-center - Mouse Touchpads). I see a touchpad settings option with the gpointing-device-settings app and I can turn on vertical and horizontal scrolling in the interface, but doing so does not in any way affect that actual touchpad behaviour. I've also tried installing the elantech-v7 module via dkms (see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2111236p=12850603#post12850603) and it compiles, but it too fails to provide the desired functionality. --- ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.2 Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=29b0358f-f728-4aea-bce5-e233816f27b1 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-12-11 (46 days ago) InstallationMedia: Linux Mint 16 petra - Release amd64 20131126 MachineType: GIGABYTE U2442 MarkForUpload: True Package: linux (not installed) ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.11.0-12-generic root=UUID=83fd94b8-53eb-4e68-9eeb-cf2e017cbe0d ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-12.19-generic 3.11.3 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-3.11.0-12-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-3.11.0-12-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.116 RfKill: 0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no Tags: petra Uname: Linux 3.11.0-12-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo dmi.bios.date: 10/26/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: U2442.F306 dmi.board.asset.tag: To be filled by O.E.M. dmi.board.name: U2442 dmi.board.vendor: GIGABYTE dmi.board.version: To be filled by O.E.M. dmi.chassis.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.version: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrU2442.F306:bd10/26/2012:svnGIGABYTE:pnU2442:pvrTobefilledbyO.E.M.:rvnGIGABYTE:rnU2442:rvrTobefilledbyO.E.M.:cvnToBeFilledByO.E.M.:ct10:cvrToBeFilledByO.E.M.: dmi.product.name: U2442 dmi.product.version: To be filled

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1357810] Re: Can't install updates because out of space
** Description changed: Update manager says there are some updates for me to install but (as of yesterday - 15th Aug 2014) it can't install them because there isn't enough space in /boot. It suggests emptying the recycle bin (I have) and using 'sudo apt-get clean' to remove temporary packages from previous installations (I have). That doesn't work. Also, I only installed 14.04 fairly recently (in the last month) from scratch (no upgrade) using the default installation options for partitioning etc (as far as I know) so it shouldn't have filled up like this. I also ran 'sudo apt-get autoremove' then 'sudo apt-get clean' but no success either. I'm on a 256 GB SSD (Dell XPS 13 Developer Edition) with an encrypted harddrive. - I know I *could* spend some time hunting around for instructions to remove old kernel packages from the command line but there really aren't that many there and it's a pretty poor user experience if that is required. I'm guessing that's not the intention so I can only think that this is a bug... - --- + I know I *could* spend some time hunting around for instructions to remove old kernel packages from the command line but there really aren't that many there and it's a pretty poor user experience if that is required. I have some additional information on this issue since I own this computer and have the same problem: Ubuntu 13.10 (x64) seems flawless on this machine. Not sure why, but something in 14.04 causes this to happen? It might be unrelated to this exact computer as it happens on a similar machine, the Acer Aspire V3 -111P-C9Z3. It also has the Pentium N3530 chip. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1265883] Re: [PC HP Split 13-m103es x2] New Synaptics Touchpad v103S doesn't work
Hello, I have the same issue on my new Hybrid Ultrabook, the HP Spectre 13-h201ef x2 with a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04.1 64-b in dual boot with Windows 8.1 Update 1. Under Ubuntu, my Synaptics Touchpad doesn't work at all (No response from the Touchpad) and I referred to the following Ubuntu document: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection to try solving the issue but with no success. * DebuggingTouchpadDetection * In case your Touchpad doesn't work at all (No response from the Touchpad) This is generally a case of a kernel (linux) or xorg bug. Check by connecting an external mouse to see if that works or not. 2. If yes, execute at a terminal: cat /proc/bus/input/devices One should see: I: Bus=0011 Vendor=0002 Product=0007 Version=01b1 N: Name=SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad P: Phys=isa0060/serio2/input0 S: Sysfs=/devices/platform/i8042/serio2/input/input8 U: Uniq= H: Handlers=mouse2 event8 B: EV=b B: KEY=420 0 7 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 B: ABS=1103 If you do not find something like this (which is my case), then the bug is in the linux kernel. Please follow these steps: File the bug against the linux package. Provide the general information. Enter the following commands in a terminal: dmesg ~/dmesg cat /proc/bus/input/devices ~/devices Attach as separate attachments to your bug report ~/dmesg, ~/devices, and your /var/log/Xorg.0.log. Here attached the first dmesg file I have done on my HP Spectre 13 x2. The two other are following. My kernel version is 3.13.0-34-generic and my system is up to date. Thank you for your help. Cheers. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1259829] Re: htree_dirblock_to_tree:920: inode #53629599: block 214443464: comm rm: bad entry in directory: rec_len % 4 != 0 - offset=0(0), inode=1667681412, rec_len=45654, name
OMG! Has anyone besides the OP reproduced the issue on these drives? I'm not even sure that his FS corruption, in this particular instance, is because of the hardware layer: The Original Poster (Ritesh), states in post #31 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1259829/comments/31) that he is using an encryption layer below EXT4 for the root partition. It is totally NOT recommended to use TRIM or DISCARD together with a software encryption level solution, and it might be causing the problems that the OP encountered. The ext4 errors problems are easy to explain (fs corruption due to messing with empty space on which the encryption solution relied). The read error problems, could also be easily explained: a corrupted filesystem which has corrupted pointers to invalid regions of the disk, will provoke ata read errors. All this is because the encryption layer might store internal info on more blocks than the EXT4 fs reports. Fstrim/discard only looks at used blocks from the EXT4 filesystem's perspective. The result is that one could end up trimming a block used by LUKS (dm-crypt), and corrupt a little or a lot of data, depending on luck. (unless luks/dm-crypt guarantees that all used blocks are also mapped by EXT4). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]
Thanks bulldozer2003 for the suggestion. Having used the Utopic linux 3.16.0-8 driver for a few days, the driver feels similar to the Ubuntu PPA 3.16 kernels I was using before trying the git driver. Now I need 0-4 connection attempts to get a reliable connection after each reboot, which is acceptable. Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1239578] Re: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b]
After using the r8192ee driver in the 3.16 kernel, I found SSH sessions to be extremely unreliable. Web browsing was tolerable but slow and required occasional retries. I've now purchased a WiFi USB dongle and will test the r8192ee driver as new 3.16 kernels are released for utopic. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1239578 Title: No wireless support for Realtek RTL8192EE [10ec:818b] Status in HWE Next Project: Confirmed Status in HWE Next trusty series: Confirmed Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Open this bug to trace device driver RTL8192EE.
